Accessories 2150mah Extended Battery + Case

The cuts and holes would look sort of like skinny voicemail notification icons (you know, the schematic of two reels with tape in between). The "tape" side would be stretched up on the edge of the hump when the case was on. So there would be a little flap between the "reels" (the holes at the ends of the slit) that would completely cover the bit on either side of the hump, with the edge actually up against the base of the hump, instead of having a narrow gap there like in my current version. I think this would give a bit of structural strength to the edges of the case, look neater, and be less work. I plan to try it, anyway.

How is it possible that this battery is twice as thick as the stock battery and only holds ~1-1/2 times the charge of the 1300? Shouldn't it be more like 2600mah or more as some of the casing should likely be redundant?

How is the cover another .4mm thicker than the original?

Even more amazing, how did they screw up so badly on the aesthetics of this thing and make the cover an absolute abomination?

I can understand some reasoning of their designers when they made the back of the diamond (rigid) and the incredible (muscular), but i wish they would just make them all clean, like the EVO, as extended batteries do not fare well when following these "themes".

I think HTC have outstanding hardware designers, but i find this extended battery an absolute abortion especially when comparing to the Touch Pro2, which had an extended battery cover that was a relative work of art and aesthetics.

Yet another reason why HTC doesn't receive the (wide, since most of us like HTC yet we don't represent the general populace) praise that Apple does.

HTC phones look great for the most part, but there's always one area where HTC falls disproportionately short (relative to all the home runs they hit with other aspects of the product). In the case of the Incredible, the extended battery is a huge disappointment.

I think the battery should have been longer to reach the bottom edge of the phone, so that the volume could be redistributed by extended one dimension (length) and reducing another (thickness), thus reducing the thickness of the phone.

Also, how could HTC not offer a case, even a cheap silicone skin, to sell with the extended battery? Really poor planning. How much would it cost to modify the mold that the original skins are made from? Come on. They were just lazy and shortsighted.

Seems like it'd need a balcony to extend to the lower edge of the phone and still have the bottom fit in the battery compartment, and the contacts would have to be under the balcony! I don't suppose HTC makes their own batteries, and is it even possible to get one made in such an oddball shape without the expense being prohibitive? Not that I know anything about battery manufacture, but there must be some reason why all we ever see are the standard shapes. I think it might require extensive retooling at least. But you're right, that'd shave a little thickness (easy enough to calculate how much, but I'm not awake enough yet). ;)

Davieboynj: The new battery cover adds something, but I won't swear to it being exactly 0.4 mm. I was being a lot more careful with that caliper on the outside of the phone than when I measured the batteries. :)

Edited to add: Given that the new cover also makes it harder to push the power button, I bet HTC just used thicker plastic throughout - maybe they were worried about it being strong enough?
 
Today I have an up time of 14 hours and awake time of 3 hours. About an hour and a half of phone calls, some browsing, a fair amount of texting. Been running bluetooth and wifi for most of the day as well.

54% battery left as of right now. Much better than stock.
 
Has anyone tried to mod the Verizon silicon (hardish, not rubbery one) case? From the looks of it, all you have to do is cut out the last contour, allowing the battery to hang out a bit. This would still protect all the sides if you drop it. I bet it would look pretty good as long as you get clean cuts.
 
I got mine yesterday. I like it. It's bigger in the hand but it still feels good to me and I don't think it looks half bad. :)
 
There have been good pictures posted already. What are you looking for that those didn't show?

Two notes I forgot to include: the new case is MUCH harder to take off. The power button is also harder to push, it feels like the new case is up a bit higher, making the button more flush with the phone.

i dont think its THAT much harder to take off but im glad you mentioned the power button i wasnt sure if everyone had that issue
 
The more I read these posts, the more I'm leaning to just sticking with the 1500 I got from ebay for $15 depending on my success with that (thanks for the other thread guys). I guess it'll also depend on whether Verizon (or HTC... or ANYONE) will ever release an acceptable case for this extended battery. With Otterbox even jumping on to Inc cases (I really want something that encloses the openings in the Inc), its looking even better accessory-wise for those who have a standard-sized battery.
 
I just got 2 hours of navigation off my extended battery and it still had 50% left...no data with the stock battery to compare it with, but my gut feeling is that's pretty good...
 
I suggest everyone contact Verizon AND Amzer AND HTC (since they are he OEM) and recommend that at least a cheap, silicone (hard and soft versions!) case be made to accommodate the Incredible with OEM extended battery.

I've contacted Amzer and HTC so far. Can't find the Verizon contact for suggestions/accessories.

I used a TP2 OEM battery from a 2 month old TP2 that my brother ditched to get a Nexus One. It was night and day in terms of performance. I gave his battery back so that he can sell his old phone (TP2) as a complete unit. I was holding out for this, but with as bad as it looks... I might just get myself a 1500 OEM, too. Especially for 15 bucks. The 1750 for 45 might be an option, but I'm still a bit skeptical. Everyone with the 1500mAh batteries is reporting good things (if you got a proper one and not a fake), while the people with 1750s are either really good or really bad reviews. =X
 
My friend has the 1750 and was using a 1500 (OEM from Sprint Hero) before. He's saying the 1750 gives him noticeably better battery life.
 
Again, I'm on the fence about giving back the 2150. I think it's slightly better than two 1500s, and there's no need to replace a battery.

I'm skeptical of the stock back cover's hinges and their durability outlasting numerous popping offs (from having to switch batteries).

I have a 1500 and the stock 1300 and the 2150. I don't know if I should just retrun the 2150 and get the ext charger and Innocase Active, or get a second 1500 (and give back the 2150)...but then I'd have two 1500s and the 1300. I'm sure I could get through a day with one 1500 and one 1300, and that the second 1500 is excessive.

Not sure. It just really depends if there's a case for the 2150 anytime soon.
 
You couldn't pry my 2150 outta my cold, dead hands with a crowbar and a comealong...

I simply leave EVERYTHING on (Bluetooth, WIFI, Max Display Brightness, 10 Minute Screen Timeout, Frequent Syncs on 5 email accounts, FB, Weather, etc) and this thing never stumbles...

Tonight I've had all that plus have been syncing 12 Gigs of music via WIFI from my laptop (via TuneSync) and haven't given it a second thought...

I'm doing surgery on a spare Verizon silicon case tomorrow to fit it over the extended back, and won't look back...


(What makes this key for me is that I work 24 hour shifts. I used to have to keep a charger on the truck, one at the station, and make sure that I had one available when I hit the rack - I'm giving my wife my spare chargers for her droid!)

I've yet to see someone do it with a hard silicone case.

It's the hard silicon from the VZW store... (Black).

I wanted to do it today but left it at the station. Back on duty tomorrow so I'm gonna take an exacto to it. It's badly scuffed around the edges (don't ask) but if the surgery is a success I'll buy a new one... :D

I'll definitely post pics (may have to use a mirror to get pics of it ON the phone, though... )
 
ifixit has confirmed that the new iphone's battery is 1420 mAh

we'll see how people report battery life on it
 
I just received this battery.

Thickness:
The 2150 battery is 8.9mm thick, the stock 1300 is 4.4mm thick.
So the 2150 is twice the thickness of the stock one.

Weight:
The 2150 battery weighs 51.1g, 62g w/ the cover.
The 1300 battery weighs 31.8g, 39.7g w/ the cover.
So the 2150 will add 22.3g to the weight of the phone.
If you are using the silicone cover and cut the back out you can subtract 5.4g from that for a total weight difference of 16.9g, a grand total of 165.6 w/ the silicone cover - a 13% increase.

I cut the silicone cover's back out and let the 'bulge' stick thru. The total difference in the phone's thickness is only 3mm. That's less than 1/8"

With the stock battery I could normally go the day w/o recharging IF I stayed away from GPS and the camera. The camera totally killed the battery. I don't know what's going on with camera (with the flash off) but it drained the battery in no time. Battery life is really the only thing I didn't like about the Dinc.

I can't really comment on performance yet, but in terms of size and weight, it's no big deal. If you have a protective cover on it already it's hardly any difference and it actually 'feels' a little better in my hands. If the battery has the advertised mah this upgrade will be well worth the coin.

Which BTW, thanks for the 25% off tip, Verizon honored it and the free shipping. $47 w/ tax to my door.
