3dEvo: Pre-release miscellany

That makes sense. Otherwise, I think it would constitute you giving them a loan. Regardless, both places doing "preorders" are just selling people gift cards and putting their name on a list.

It's not like we're gossiping about your sister or something :-p It's fun. It gives all of us something to talk about while we wait. Plus, once we find out, everyone who was right will have the great personal satisfaction of being right on the interwebs!!

EDIT: Also, this thread is about pre-release miscellany. Keep it on topic ;-) tee hee

My Bestbuy receipt actually says EVO 3D presale and i was told one will be reserved for me and that I should have it a day or two before it's actually released :)

LOL the Iphone 5 will be just like every other iphone. Just a minor improvement at a time.

Actually, if (and that's a big if) the rumors are to be believed, a bigger screen and bump up to a dual core processor is a huge leap in iphone evolution imo.

Mine didn't tell me anything other than "Here's your receipt, you'll hear from us later." I got my Touch Pro a few days before release at Best Buy, would love to score the same deal with Best Buy. Hope it works out for you (so I can take that information and try to get mine. :D)

hmm is sg2=samsung galaxy 2? you have a link to any info on it? I'd wait until august and get that over the 3d if good enough.

SG2 is the Galaxy 2 but no, I don't have any information on it. I was just thinking that would be about the time frame considering how the original Galaxy rolled out after initial release of the 'base' model prior to going to USA carriers.

Basically, all I meant was that if the E3D didn't hit stores until July was that the SG2 version and a possible iphone would be coming to sprint.

At this time though, the only pre-sale we have going is the E3D. Personally, even if those two others were hitting stores at the same time, I would still get the E3D, regadless of the fact that I am in on the pre-sale.

Agreed, I'd likely get the 3D as well, but would have to give serious thought to and get a hands on with the SG2 if it was confirmed to be really close release wise.

That is a good point.

The latest rumors do have the Iphone coming to Sprint. Sprint definetly would not release the E3D the same time as the Iphone.

So if it is true the Iphone is coming out in September and if it is true its coming to Sprint, the E3D has to be coming out June or early July at the latest.

I dont think Sprint will make a big deal about the Kingdom release. That will just be a quiet launch.

The big releases are the E3D, The Galaxy II, and the Iphone (maybe). Probably in that order too.

I may go back to Best Buy and look into this because my receipt doesn't say anything on it about the Evo 3D. It is just a gift card sale, but I do have a copy of the sheet they filed saying I was waiting for an Evo. I'll probably just end up going to Sprint at 6am on release day anyway :-/

I hate best buy. I understand the pre ordering though. I just hate them. They are sneaky bastards to which I don't trust and they are out to take advantage of people.

I used to work there, and I really didn't like how they viewed customer service. I think pestering the customer until they either buy loads of stuff they don't need or leave the store is poor service. I hated that experience as a customer, and had trouble doing it as an employee (probably why I my employment with them is past tense). The prices on anything that's not mandated by the manufacturer are way bloated and in no way competitive. The nice thing about working there, though, was that everything was 5% above cost for employees. This means $60 home theater cables for about 7 bucks.

I will say that they aren't entirely evil, though. I think their target customers are the 30 - 40 year old middle to high class people with stable jobs that aren't completely tech savvy. For them, I think the experience is spot on.

Regardless, they are now guaranteed that I will spend at least $50 there in the future, but I may just end up at the Sprint store for my next big purchase :-) Besides, I just paid for the preorder with bits and pieces of old gift cards from Christmas and birthdays lol.

Is the $50 deposit not refundable should you change your mind?

It's a gift card, so I don't think it's refundable (although someone mentioned that you might be able to cash it out but I don't know), but you aren't required to buy the phone with it. If I buy it from Sprint, or just decide it's junk and don't want the Evo 3D (yeah right!) then I could just buy a few blurays with it instead. And like I said, all I really did was consolidate my old gift cards.

Right on. I can't wait either :)

Here's the comparison between OG Evo and Evo 3D from that same site someone posted with Droid X comparison:

HTC Evo 4G vs HTC EVO 3D - Phone Comparison - The Phone Database

Here are the things that really stand out for me:

Standby time: 146hrs vs 355hrs. That's almost a 2.5x advantage Evo3D...

Talk time is 5hrs vs 8hrs.

Display max colors is now a proper 16mil instead of Evo4G's 65k. This was a touchy point if I recall from last year's threads.

Price range... this site as Evo4G as $$$$ and Evo 3D as $$$$$. Let's hope carrier subsidizes more of the cost so the end cost is the same for us.

I wonder what they are basing the standby time on. With a CDMA network signal or without. When I took my EVO overseas with me for a few month my phone would sit idle for at least two weeks. I think I had the phone unplugged for at least 246 hours before needed a recharge just sitting in my luggage.

I dont see the need to preorder for a few reasons. Just my humble opinion though.

The popularity of the Evo is undeniable, and there were shortages. But with the galaxy s2 being this year's "it" phone and the sensation incoming. I think the demand might be a little less. That along with the fact that many people have decided that they simply dont want this because of the 3d (agree or not, it turns many people off to the device) may give it less selling power than its predecessor.

Also, I find it a little jumpy to preorder something that hasnt been reviewed at all yet. The battery or other key features might suck. Oh and it doesnt even have a date yet.

All of these things make me confused why so many are eager to preorder. But thats me. Dont get me wrong, I am very interested in this one, but not enough to go through $50 down for it.

Standby times for the EVO is 146 hours and the EVO 3D is 355 hours. Novox just posted this in another thread.

I have a feeling that the price will determine if I even try to get the phone. i noticed that sprint no longer offers me $150 off ....it's now $75 ....if this releases at over 200 ...for new customers ...and I have to add 75 to that ...i'd pretty much wait and see what happens 6 months down the road.

In your case, you will not get to add 75 to the new customer price, like i think you're are saying. You will only get to subtract 75 off the retail price. You're probably looking in the neighborhood of 500 bucks. (rough estimate.)

based on what I've seen from this sites comparison of the X, EVO 4G, and EVO 3D, I don't think I'd trust it too much.

Depends on whether you are a fan of 3D or not. I mean, some people can't even see 3D. I had a hard time passing a depth perception test a few years back. The nurse told me to look at 3D images then come back and take the test again. Well, I did and I trained my eyes how to look "through" the photos on a website in order to ace the depth perception test.

yeah, I thought of this after i posted ...which only makes it worse :D

Its going to be a lot more then that. One year ($75) upgrades do not qualify for the subsidized price. You get $75 off of the regular price which will be at least $499.
