3dEvo: Pre-release miscellany

I signed up with Sprint over 10 years ago when I worked for a company that received a 27% discount. I've changed my plans a few times since then and they have never once asked me re-verify my employment.

One of the top reasons I stick with Sprint. I can't be this price anywhere. Plus I'm on a family plan with my father and his friend. So the bill is split 3 ways. I think I pay $42/mth out of pocket of unlimited everything and 1500 minutes. Between all of us we use about 600 minutes a month max. You can't find a better deal anywhere.

They told me they are. Said the Geek Squad needs to look over the phone and they will give a price based off the condition.

LOL, former sears employee as well and I still get my 25% of my monthly bill. When I first requested that discount, along with basic type questions they wanted my supervisor's info as well so they can actually verify my employment. Me and my supervisor at the time are very close friends and I don't ever think sprint called to verify anything but I did have a corporate email account so I don't know if that made a difference. Anyway, I worked for sears for a while and my discount with sprint is about the only good thing that came out of working for them.
Asked for my Supe's name as well. At the time I think Sears had like 250,000 employees. My first thought was yeah right they're gonna call dude and they didn't. I worked in corporate HR so it wasn't all bad for, but I think we had like 18 consecutive quarters with declining revenues at one point. Was kind of a depressing company to work for. /offtopc

you cats that are trading in the EVO. i didnt know sprint has a buy back program. an evo will net you 150.00 credit instant. you can walk into the store and they will credit it to you on the spot or you can mail it in.. you can also trade in other mobile handsets (up to 5 items i think) if they are of value to sprint... so that would beat RS's trade in deal wouldn't it?
this could have been posted in one of the many threads here so dont tase me bro if this is a repeat... :-/

So I got to play with the Sensation 4G today, don't believe me I'll upload a pic. But the new UI is really awesome. The screen is absolutely gorgeous, and the phone is very snappy. Got me even more excited for the EVO 3D. Games ran smooth, and I compared it with the NOVA display, both on full brightness and I'd say the LCD on the Sensation came out on top, with colors and resolution.

Oh, and if you're wondering how I was playing with the Sensation, I'm thinking the guys were training on it and let me see it since I talk with them a lot, or it ended up there from the meeting here in Houston that they had yesterday over HTC and T-Mobile.

I know these answers may not be available just yet, but I thought I'd put it out there just in case someone has found out, or when it is found out can be answered quickly.

Screen durability - let's face it, the first 4g would almost crack if you looked at it. I was sitting on the ground and had one slide out of my pocket and crack (like 4 inches) I found that the V0004 seemed more rugged though when it relates to the screen.

Camera/Camcorder in low/medium light - it plain sucks bad, takes pretty good picture in very good light IMO.

Build quality Light leakage issues, screen separation etc. I have had three EVO's and they have all had these in some fashion.

I found that I am eligible for an upgrade, and can use another phone for an additional phone line. If these issues are addressed as well, it will be hard to pass up if the phone tickles my fancy when I play with it.

Both phones have gorilla glass. Glass will break and scratch put under the right conditions.

You want a camera/camcorder buy those gadgets independently and don't rely on a cell phone. The camera and camcorder on the 3D are superior to the 4G. But to each his or her own opinion.

I can't believe you are in this forum especially since you said in the 4G forum that the 3D requires a set of 3D glasses.

I'm almost 100% certain that at the Evo 4G's launch, there was absolutely no mention of Gorilla Glass; I remember several people contacted HTC inquiring about the glass. The best information that we had was that it was regular tempered glass (soda lime?) Now however, the Evo 4G is listed as a Gorilla Glass product.

This can mean one of two things:

1) The initial launch of the Evo 4G did not feature gorilla glass and at some point in the last year, HTC started to source gorilla glass from Corning.

2) The Evo 4G always had gorilla glass and for some inexplicable reason (despite a small handful of other products frequently advertising their use of Gorilla Glass, including the Dell Streak 5), both HTC and Corning omitted any mention of this.

I don't know if anyone knows for sure, but I'm willing to put money down that what happened was choice #1.

Pics or it didn't happen......!!!

Ok, sorry I couldn't help myself. I always wanted to say that, LOL.

I am running a ROM on my EVO 4g with pieces of sense 3.0 and there are so many ways to reach
frequent apps
... dam overkill

20110611155046.png

This is the pull down notification bar ... i liked it better with quick power control widgets on the top, HTC should of thought about implementing that... and maybe have the quick setting tab be favorite apps

20110611155123.png

here is another way of reaching frequent apps .. holding down home button... can be accessed from anywhere just like above method ... two things doing the same thing now.

20110611155150.png

And here is the application button which takes u to another screen (apps, frequent, downloads) with the star being frequent instead of favorites ...

How many ways do we need to reach frequent apps ... they def should of made one of them pull up favorite apps that could of been customized

If i am missing something .. please correct me .. who knows if this will change on the day of release but this is overkill to me in which they could of implemented more useful features ...

sorry for the rant .. just had to get that off my chest .. i feel better now .. how do we get HTC to read this ...LMAO :confused: ;)

Sounds like a pretty isolated incident. You probably hit it just right in order for that to happen. I've dropped my phone from about 4 feet onto several surfaces and even threw it at the wall once (all accidents of course), and the other surfaces have always come out more damaged than my phone (Got my Evo on release day). I don't use any cases or screen protectors either.

pshh. prove that that is your hand.

phone looks nice. I'd recommend it to my wife if it were available on Sprint or AT&T...

LMAO!!!!!!

Anyway the sensation really is a sexy looking phone in my opinion. I need to get a back up line just in case sprint wants to act stupid if I am in the middle of no where so I might get me a line on tmobile or att.

I believe all 3 are meant to have different functions. The holding home button one shows you your recent apps from anywhere you are in the phone, so you can revert easily. The section in the taskbar gives you a much larger selection of recent apps wherever the taskbar is available(not usually in most games and other apps). The frequent apps in the app tray, assume you're at the home page for one, and make it convenient to switch to an app you use a lot, even if it isn't already open, much different than recent applications.

Very sexy indeed, and feels great to hold in the hand. It's light, but not to the point where it feels vulnerable or cheap. It's curves make it fit quite nicely. One thing I noticed though is that the unibody on it isn't ridiculously sturdy and feels a little wobbly. Not anything huge, but with the EVO in the other hand, it just felt more sturdy, but that of course comes from the unibody on the Sensation and how the back cover stretches further around the phone. But I'll assume with the 16:9 aspect ratio, the 3D will feel much better in the hand than the 4G.

EVO does not have Gorilla Glass. So now that doesn't make you much brighter than I am to judge now does it. I'll post where I want to thank you.

Sorry, but last I checked I'm not the only one wanting for better from the super hyped 8mp camera that HTC offered and the camcorder that was all but useless if there wasn't really good light in the room. Don't tell me what to buy, I can handle that.

You are right, to each his/her own opinion. Now how about leaving people to their opinion.

I think there is some confusion around this issue. From what I understand, the Evo 4G was not initially advertised as using Gorilla glass (nor was it stated on anyone's website). That being said, later models did use it, as advertised by the Gorilla glass site.

From their site:
