3dEvo: Pre-release miscellany

the thing is, this is a corporate store, plus I have it on pre-order. Everybody I talked to there said "It isn't coming out on the 24th for stores but it is online." No matter how much I told them everybody else is getting the Evo 3D on the 24th in stores they still didn't believe me.

I think any dates we hear other than the 24th will come from employees who are just making a mistake. Maybe thinking of another phone in another month. Dates can get confusing when there is a lot on your plate.

When I pre-ordered at the Sprint store to get the port in credit (I'm a soon-to-be-ex-VZW customer, just like you), I told the customer rep that I was there to pre-order the Evo 3D because I heard the port in date was extended to July 23rd.

She was very meek in her annunciation, and I swear she said "It'll be released on July 24th, just so you're aware that this phone won't be available until then"

I hesitated, and assumed I heard her wrong, and replied "Yeah, so in a week?" (this was on Friday)

She said: "Yes, July 24th"

I was so horribly confused, but nodded, thanked her, and paid for my $50 gift card. We'll see what happens on this Friday.

Yeah see this lends to my point. She was just confused and made a mistake. Later on she probably thought "Wait, I meant June."

I was thinking of starting a "User Reviews" thread for those of us who want to do reviews of the phone once we have it. I think a lot of people would find value in a peer review in addition to the existing "pro" reviews thread.

Yes? No?

I'd be in favor of that.

I concur. The one recommendation I could make is making sure that people differentiate between "Rooted" and "Non-rooted" reviews.

I think it's a good idea as well. I wont be able to get my Evo3D until maybe as late as Monday so it'd be nice to be able to read the reviews from the people on the message boards. =)

Also to keep in mind is the Brand, GB capacity, and Class. A person probably wouldn't want to trade down so to speak, unless of course they don't care.

The card that came in the Evo 4g was a Sandisk 8GB Class 2, the review units of the Evo 3D contains a Sandisk 8GB Class 4.

Just a random update of my post earlier. Reading through the online manual .pdf it says the phone will have a 2GB MicroSD. I checked the Evo 4G .pdf manual and it says it came with a 2GB as well, which we know is not true. They must just copy and paste old info/template into that guide and forgot to edit that or don't want to advertise 8GB. Sprint phone specs. page when you order says 8GB. Guess we will see once it arrives what we are getting in the end.

If anyone is sad that they can't order their Evo 3D, do yourself a favor and download today's Amazon free app of the day. It is Peggle! It is plain and simple fun. You will likely become addicted and forget your Evo 3D blues (I know nothing will bring solace, but I can try). It may even put a smile on your face. Don't hesitate, Do it now!
Amazon Free App Of The Day

It is a steal of a deal for 2.99, but even better because today it is FREE!
What an awesome day, Evo 3D and Peggle for Android in the same day

---edit---
I didn't intentionally double post, this post got transplanted from the release day topic

FYI. I tried to download this app on my Hero, but said it was not compatible. So I went to the website and although I was warned it wasn't compatible I was still able to purchase it.

Now it will be in my que when I get my 3D Friday and I can then download it.

For those of you that are decommissioning a phone tomorrow and are keeping it as a backup: Remember to charge your old phone's battery to 100%, pull it out of the phone, and keep both the phone and the battery in a clean, dry, cool area. And charge it once every few months or so. Make sure it's charged at least once every 6 months, or when it's 30% or lower.

All batteries leak energy over time. Li-Ion can suffer irreparable damage if they are allowed to discharge fully, and even below a certain voltage (depends on chemical make up what voltage that is). Then why do you need to pull it out of the phone? Your phones pull power, even when they're off. A very small amount, but it's still there. It's like how when you leave cell chargers plugged into the wall, they still pull energy. Same thing here. It just allows a quicker discharge of the battery. Charging and pulling the battery out of the phone will make it so that, if you ever do need it as a backup, the battery will last more than a few hours.

I thought for battery storage you don't want to charge to 100% but rather keep it somewhere slightly below 50%... Though I suppose if you keep it cold enough, it shouldn't matter.

For those trading your phones in I suggest hitting up Sprint's online site and locking in the $150 buyback amount prior to the 24th. The quoted price is good for at least 30 days and I expect the amount to go down when the 3vo hits. It may not, but it doesn't hurt to lock the price in.

I personally can't wait for Sense 3.0. I tried it out on the Sensation and was in love immediately. Other than that, what are you looking forward to trying out first when you get your Evo 3D?

Technically, you are correct. But, for consumer grade batteries, it won't matter as much. The real concern is that people will forget to check every month and maintain 50%. When I worked on li-ion that we installed in unmanned submersibles, we charged to 50%, but had a charge log. I doubt people will do that. So, as long as you keep your house climate controlled, the battery is fine at full charge.

You are also supposed to put it at half charge for shipping, which is one of the reasons you get your devices and rechargeable batteries at half charge. The factory also has to spend less time and money charging them, so they don't complain.

Well I'm not sold by the reviews that is for sure. I bought the Nexus S to tide me over for 30 days, last day I can return it is tomorrow, but now I'm not so sure. Sounds like I get better 2d stills from the Nexus S and better call quality and battery life as well. Damn, I wish the reviews were 'blown me out of the water' good. I have 24 hours to decide, could just make a return rather than an exchange but dread going back to my touch pro garbage. Ugg...

Do you guys realize that our phones are probably just sitting there in the store right now, waiting to be picked up by us? :/

Maybe, but what I see as more likely is that today is the day they're shipping to all the vendors (Sprint stores, BB, RS, etc) and that's why SP members were able to order direct today. They would just ship yours to you directly rather than to the store.

I read this to mean, somewhere out there, my future awesome phone is going to get a ton of love, but right now, it's just sitting around in a nondescript location with a bunch of other phones. It's out there already, ready to go!

kinda like your significant other. In retrospect, I think about how my wife was out there all that time, not knowing that we'd be together some day.

I prolly got the wrong meaning out of the post, but I like my interpretation nonetheless :)

Yeah that sounds like about right to me too.

You, sir, are my hero of the day. You've just compared your Wife to your upcoming Smart-Phone purchase. I salute you! :D:p
