Help 3G Data Connectivity Issues

wow... finally!!! i have an optimus V and my internet has been down for over a month and VM has been just givin me the run around. my brother just pointed me to droid808's post and low n behold it worked! thank you so much!

After trying all of the solutions in this post, one 20 minute phone call to customer service got my 3g humming again. I was as nice as I could stand to be and asked to speak to a supervisor. After that,i told the lady all the fixes I tried and she said because I was so nice she would take car of it personally. Im not so nieve to expect that to have happened, but once I got off the phone my 3g signal was back.

Btw, for anyone who's suffering from this issue, I would try the fixes in this order:
toggle airplane mode on for 20 seconds.
Turn phone off for 20 seconds
Uninstall battery for 20 seconds
dial ##virgin# and enter your phone number, etc.
Dial## virgin# and activate! !
Call customer service, be super nice even if you want to rip the rep a new one
Good luck, I know it sucks to have a new phone that don't work.

My wife and I each got a new Optimus V today. Hers seems to be working perfectly.

Mine will go on the Internet using the Wifi network in my house, but absolutely will not connect to the 3G network. Not here, and not anyplace else in the city. (Again, my wife's phone is connecting just fine.) The little "3G" icon occasionally flashes the up arrow, but never the down arrow.

Do I simply have a lemon? Is this the kind of thing that happens frequently, causing people to have to swap their phone for a new one?

Obviously I'll call VM tomorrow, but I thought I'd start this thread in case anyone else is experiencing something similar.

I just clicked on the ACTIVATE app on my screen, and in a couple minutes my 3G was working great. It worked when I first bought the optimus V and three weeks later no 3G, wifi still worked fine. Thanks for the tip about the activate button.

My wife's phone has experienced its first big 3G fail. The 3G icon disappeared yesterday; it got it to show up briefly by turning data on and off (an airplane mode toggle generally wouldn't do it) but I still had no connectivity even when the icon was showing, and it would quickly disappear again (after less than a minute). I've called CS today; they had me reprogram, take the battery out, wait four hours, etc. After all that, all I was able to get was the redirect of death (if I was lucky). I'm still at that point; it's supposedly been escalated (after 4-5 calls to CS) but I haven't received any notifications related to the escalation yet.

If you're thinking there's a simple explanation for the redirect, there isn't. Our new month just started on May 8th and it worked fine until yesterday (May 13th).

Is there anything else I can do, or must I simply wait for the "escalated" tech support to get around to contacting me?

Yes, there is. No, waiting for them to call you is a waste of time. Just call tech support yourself, using one of the numbers floating around in this forum (i.e., not the general CS numbers, 888-322-1122 or *86.)

Sorry about your issues. I know how frustrating this is. :(

I now, too, am in the same boat. My wife's Optimus V is working perfectly, but mine has no 3G connectivity. I have spent over an hour on VM's tech support three different times, once with some one who spoke English as a second language, but was very adept at saying, "I'm sorry," and "thank you".

I complained on the VM Facebook page, and a VM customer service rep gave me a supposedly better tech support number, they weren't too much help, their mantra, "We'll get back to you." But then another FB user PM'd me a higher level tech support number. This time I got to speak to a native English speaker somewhere on the west coast, who then sent me to another tech support person, who first reset my plan (did they learn that here?) but that didn't work. Then I was instructed to do the ##847445# routine, replaced my phone number AND MSN number with 10 1's each. Rebooted the phone, and then entered the correct numbers back into those two places. (Before trying this at home, I'd suggest you record these numbers on a piece of paper for future, and necessary, reference).

I sounded like a good idea, but it didn't work.

There was no confession of we know it's our problem, etc. Just we'll send it up the line and hope to have a fix for you in 72 hours. I'm not holding my breath.

I've tried all the fixes posted here as of late and none of them worked. If anyone learns something new, I hope they'll post it here ASAP.

TIA!

What finally worked for us was that the escalated CS restarted the plan month. I'm not surprised that this worked because the redirect-of-death that I was experiencing also occurs when your plan isn't properly restarted at the end of a bill cycle.

What frustrates me is that I know that the "regular" CS can restart your plan as well; I shouldn't have to wait to be referred to escalated CS in order for someone to perform this apparently relatively simple step. Maybe the regular CS people would do this if asked?

I don't think it would be a good idea to restart your month yourself on the website to address this problem, because, as I understand it, if you do this, you lose any unused minutes/days of service. When (at least the escalated) CS restarted my month, on the other hand, it had the effect of essentially giving me a few extra days of service for free.

The technician did restart my plan to no avail.

So last night, with nothing better to do. I re-activated my phone about six times, both through the icon as well as the ##847446# routine. It failed each and every time with the message: Error: 06-07-5101

I did a Google search for that error message but found nothing that would help.

But lo and behold, after I rebooted my phone after this sixth attempt, it worked again! I have 3G connectivity again! Woo hoo!

So far it's worked for 20 hours flawlessly.

YMMV.

Ok this is a little to much I have had 3 phones and try everything that I could think of. But nothing worked. I just call customer care 611 now they said that someone will call me. I know that I can reset the phone and email and web will work for a short time. But something has to be wrong with the phone or the system. Anyone found anything that works ? I have try everything on this issue .

I just got this phone 2 days ago and everything was perfect until about 3 hours ago. 3g on my phone hasn't been working for the past 3 hours and I don't know why. Is anybody else's 3g down today? Or am I the only one? Is there a way that I could reset my phone to get 3g working again?

P.S: I accidently hit the 'Activate' button while I was looking for an app and my 3g has dropped since. Is it a coincidence or was that the cause of it?

pull the battery for about 2 minutes.

If you interrupted the "activation", you probably need to do it again, let it complete, and let it reboot.

Usually for me after having 3G(and voice) off all night sometimes the first time coming out of airplane mode 3G is flakey, but toggling airplane again usually gets it eventually. (Usually OK after one try and I let voice settle before turning on data(3G).)

Massachusetts. And mobile data (not just 3G) is completely down. Had it pop back on during my commute home and 10 minutes later it was gone again. The app called Quick Settings is either showing Mobile Data as 'disconnected'... or 'connecting...' and then back to disconnected.

I just rooted and flashed my phone for the first time yesterday, so I'm actually glad to see its not just me. Do you all have stock phones or have you rooted/flashed yours as well?

My 3g icon has completely disappeared in the last hour. Quick Settings says "connecting..." under Mobile Data. I don't know if it's an outage or because I installed Beautiful Widgets Lite. I uninstalled BWLite and still no 3g icon. I pulled the battery out waited two minutes put I back on and nothing. I put it on airplane mode then off and nothing. I went into settings<wireless and networks<mobile networks and unchecked Data Enabled then checked it again and I got the 3g icon and service back for about 3 minutes then it disappeared again. I'm in Atlanta.

Down in Michigan, and they're claiming "higher call volumes than 'normal'" on their generic tech support line...

Their tier 2 line actually answered right away, but weren't any more help than the others would've been as in they didn't know anything other than yep, it's down...
