ROM Upgrade for HTC Hero (3UK)
An updated ROM is now available for HTC Hero customers to download. As always, HTC is committed to providing customers with the best possible mobile experience.
Date : 2010-01-08

I suspect your phone shipped with an older ROM - if you go into the settings on your Hero, then into About Phone see if you have the following ROM "2.73.771.73". If you don't, you'd need to install it following the instructions on the HTC website. The ROM released in January was not an 'Over The Air' update; it requires you to plug your phone into your PC

Hmmmm - so the way I forced mine was to change the date to a date in the future as some people have suggested, then I switched my phone off and then on again, making sure WiFi and 3G connection were switched on. Then the update just appeared and installed seamlessly. Other than the suggestion by Craig with the #*#682#*#*, i'm not sure what else to suggest. Sorry dude - hope something works for you.

I've set it to 30th of August 2011.. I've turned it off and on.. theres no point turning my wifi on because I don't have it connected to my router.. but my 3G is on and working fine.. the #* doesn't work as it cancels as soon as I enter the final *.. :(
 
go in to your setting and make sure your phone is set on prompt before update and not dont update thats all i can think of sorry.
 
Go in to security settings and its at the bottom firmware update i think its under click on that and it will give you 3 options dont update, prompt before update and update automatically
 
did anyone had problem with their sim card???
my hero doesn't seams works with sim insert (random crash) after the 2.1 update...

That happened when I put the code in for mine, and then after a few moments it just popped up. I don't know..how long have you waited for it afterwards?

When you type in the final * it's supposed to disappear because it's recognised it as a code rather than a phone number.

I typed the code in on my 3 Hero the other day and a couple of minutes later I had an update prompt.
 
When I put the date forward by a month as suggested nothing happenend,
But what I realised their was some blurry notification underneath the power off screen, so when you switch off your hero and the final notice says power off / cancel, hit the cancel button instead and it should reveal the update message as with mine.

I'm on 3 Payg hope this helps.

Hi guys, first post here.
My wife has a hero and i would like to update it to 2.1.
My question is do have to bac up any data if so which data, and how?
Shes probably not as bothered about doing it as i am so dont wont to lose anything on her.
Also could anyone list the benefits of having 2.1 other than slightly faster?

@digiscott, that means you've finished updating and have the second OTA update already.

2.1-update1 is not a term created by HTC, it refers to the release of 2.1 they used to make our update.

you get leap in htc sense for home sreens you get better app store, more features on phone plus sat nav through google maps upgrade on market plus lots more
 
I have just retried the setting the clock forward 1 year and my phone has started to update. I will post the outcome.

Downloaded

update is 3.35.771.1 Installing

Exclamation Mark and green android waiting
