4.2.2 is here for boost k2_cl

not a problem at all. i thank you for the files. I might need a little help or guidance with this. once i download them, what is the next step.

You should have a TWRP folder on your phone when using a file manager. Will most likely be found on your internal sdcard, but you can also duplicate it over to your external sdcard for sake of space.

Inside the TWRP folder should be a subfolder called, BACKUP (all caps). Inside the Backup folder will be another folder named after your device's serial number, and inside that folder will be a folder named based on whatever you called your backup in general. Inside that specific folder is where you will place all those files I share with you.

If above sounded too complicated then just go to your twrp recovery and make a quick backup if your boot.img. TWRP will create all the required folders. Reboot your phone and find that Folder which holds your boot.img backup. Delete it and place all shared files in there. :-)


Once good, go to twrp and click restore. Select all recovery options which will be like boot, system, data, and cache. Swipe, standby, enjoy ;-)
 
So is TWRP superior to CWM recovery? If I'm understanding you right TWRP will restore a stock recovery over itself?
Unless I've been doing it wrong, I'm pretty sure CWM isn't capable of that. I'm s-off so would I go about it this way if I'm on the latest JB right now?

1. Flash TWRP recovery
2. Restore the stock JB backup which should restore stock recovery
3. Do I need to relock?
4. Install OTA update
5. Flash TWRP recovery again
6. Make a fresh backup

Sound about right?

TWRP initially won't do it either. It's all on how you go about doing your backup.

How I did it goes as follows..

I installed 4.1.2 a while back when I got the update.

When my phone rebooted I waited a few minutes for it to load. I didn't even pull the lock ring.

After a few minutes I pulled my battery.

I booted back in to my bootloader and plugged my device in to my pc.

I then booted TWRP on to my recovery partition. I did not flash it - yes there is a huge difference.

To boot it I did the following

fastboot boot recovery.img

My phone loaded up TWRP and I continued on with my backup.

When done I went ahead and flashed TWRP after rebooting the bootloader
Code: 
fastboot flash recovery recovery.img

AND VOILA, I have a pure JB backup to include an untouched recovery ;-).
 
You do not need to relock your bootloader since you are S-Off. Just need to restore your backup and if your backup doesnt contain your stock recovery then you need to flash it, boot your device, accept OTA, install TWRP after OTA installation is complete, root the device, done.
 
when i tried to update, it started to download the small update to 4.1.2 and now i have the red triangle over the image of the phone.

I have a workaround on that. Reboot your system. I'm gonna send you the OTA.zip. I have to upload it really quick.

You will download it and place it on your phone. Either internal or external sdcard.

Go in to your stock recovery. When that triangle appears again just press and hold the volume up and power keys. Then release. A stock recovery system should appear and it will look VERY similiar to CWM. Just select the OTA.zip from there and let it run it's course. Gonna upload it now for you.

i think i made a mistake when flashing the original files you sent me.

No it isn't you. There is a particular update that you need to accept. It's an application update (not OTA). However, I do not have that and the backup does not have it either. I forgot about that one step lol. Just need to do a system check and get it to install over the air.
 
Should work after that. All of this is what I did to get the OTA up and going.
 
there were 4 files in my twrp backup folder that i did not remove when i added your files. could that be it?
 
i just noticed that i have some apps installed from my original backup. also noticed no bloatware, so i think i need to reflash your files after removing the 4 older ones. (ex: system)

Hahaha, yea, definitely need to remove all files except for my backup. Reapply the backup again when you are done removing any other extras ;-)
 
ok, i did that, and still no go. tried to update through settings first. when that failed, i booted into stock recovery and tried the ota you gave me and that failed alos. it aborted.

Personally, I made sure the update was on my external SD, removed the external SD, and ran the 4.1.2 RUU to ensure it was completely stock (other than being S-OFF and having an unlocked bootloader). Then I put the card back in and installed the update from the stock recovery and booted the device afterward and ran through the setup process. Once I signed into my Google account, my apps were restored and all I had to do for those was launch them and log in for things I needed to log into

There is an application update you have to receive for your device. I had to receive it also.

I initially had restored my device with my backup then accepted to download the OTA. After downloading I accepted for installation. It booted to the recovery and then rebooted back to my phone. I decided to go to settings to check for updates again and that was when I received the application update. I had already known about it but had forgotten it as well lol. Once installed I redid the OTA again and all was well.
 
yes. after it reboots, it still is not full stock. i just found my old one sv. its updating now to 4.2.2 i think if i can update that one, and install twrp, make a backup, i should be able to transfer that backup to my working phone and update it through twrp.does that make sense?

Yea, and that will work. But you may need to flash the firmware.zip which is located inside the OTA.zip via fastboot afterwards.
