$450 without contract?

Just got the email from Sprint from signing up for news on the EVO site:

This means $450 without a plan unless I'm mistaken (which is how I'm planning to buy it). This would be tremendous.

Wow.... That just goes to show how much an OS costs on a phone. Good thing android is free.

Agreed, that is an AWESOME move if it's true. I already have $300 raised and plan to sell my Hero and 80gig ipod too, which should put me right in that area. *happy dance* :)

I might be offloading my moment... who wants one? LOL

Quick dumb question...that would be the price at the Sprint store only or anywhere it will be sold ?. I want no contract either.
Absolutely brand new to smartphones and how to get one the first day...and I can only be in one place at a time that day...June 4

Ok.. so $200 with a contract and a $200 ETF, that prorates down over time.. the max you will be paying is $400 if you want this phone contract free.. What am I missing here? Why would you go with the contract-free option?

Because I'm not eligible for an upgrade yet but this phone gives me an woody and I must have it.

$450, I'll believe it when I see it. If Android really does help cut the cost that much for it being a free OS, then $450 for that hardware is NOTHING.

Its insane that the EVO full retail price is $150 less then the Incredible. There's no explanation other than that either (a) Sprint is subsidizing the full retail price (through the $10/mo fee?), or (b) Verizon is screwing its customers. Or both.

I also got the same email ... the hd2 was also 450 no contract I plan on starting fresh with sprint can't resist the phone

or sprint is just bending over backwards as usual to gain customers. its still failing ;)

I have 2 questions that maybe somebody can answer.

1) If I pay retail price of $450 then I don't have to sign another contract?
2) Is there still a $100 mail in rebate when u buy the phone without a contract?

1) That is correct.
2) That is the way I read it and what people missed up until your post. I was going to say the same thing. This phone is actually $349 after rebate!!!!

I'm attempting to confirm whether the MIR is still applicable, if you are not eligible for an upgrade (as I'm not until Aug 1st).

Be advised, according to the Sprint reps I am speaking to now, this is NOT true. Both the MIR and New Line Activation/Upgrade credit, are apparently tied to your Upgrade Eligibility. :(

So I can not get the mail in rebate because my upgrade isn't until October 1?

That is correct.

After dealing with an online service rep for about 20 minutes, they finally offered me a $100 account credit instead. They put a note on my account that they made this offer to me, so once I buy an Evo, I can call back and they'll apply the credit. That was an acceptable compromise.

And how did u pull that off ?

It looks like they are saying the cost on contract is $449 but if you have a NEW 2 year contract it's another 150 off plus a 100 MIR, but they also mention the $200 ETF before anything so I think that is also factored into the $449 price. I think the retail will be closer to $600

I'm confused by what you're getting at. How does the final retail cost of someone who is not eligible for an upgrade not be $449?
