Root 4G until lte is here

This may sound dumb and I think I already know the answer, but...is there anyway to get 4G on this device until 4G LTE is here? 3g blows on these crowded towers.

That's what Captain Throwback was talking about doing, wonder how that is working out for him?

I wonder if it actually lacks the hardware to do this? I'd be interested in knowing what Captain Throwback comes up with.

the LTE does lack the hardware. the 4g network sprint has now is wimax, which requires a wimax radio. no new phones have a wimax radio in them because sprint is in the process of depreciating their wimax network. so if you want 4g right now before sprint's lte network goes live, you will need to do like cap'n throwback said he was planning to do, which is to keep both his og evo AND his LTE active devices on his family plan, and then tether his wimax connection from his OG evo to his LTE.

I'm glad you asked! :D

It's working out well, actually. The only app I have a problem with is TinyShark, because the 3G/4G handoff causes the Wi-Fi connection to disconnect and then reconnect, so I lose streams mid-song. Most other streaming radio, like iheartradio & Pandora work fine. The carrying around two phones thing is a little weird, but I'm getting used to it.

I was even able to use Google Wallet to buy my breakfast this morning ;).
