5.9.902

My phone bricked itself flashing an update. Battery died part way through. Now it's stuck in fastboot and won't charge the battery. So I'm working several angles to get a charged battery so I can flash it again to 902. I tried attaching wires directly to the battery. I tried my verizon store. We have many Android phones in service but no other Bionic. I'm waiting on an external battery charger. I really want to like this phone

Ah, one of the great lessons of flashing: make sure that the battery is fully charged.

If you are looking for a battery charger, amazon has this; it works great for me: Amazon.com: Motorola Battery Only Charger for BF, HF, BW, and HW Series Batteries - Bulk Packaging - Black: Cell Phones & Accessories

Thanks guys. Yea I hadn't calculated on it taking two tries to flash and it hung forever. Verizon was even willing to give me a battery out of one of their demo phones to borrow and return whenever but they weren't charged enough either. They had no other charged batteries. I finally ebay'd an external charger with a spare battery. Hopefully it'll be here today according to Fed Ex.

Similar thing happened to wife's Fascinate. Full battery, downloaded OTA and hen locked up on reboot after flash. Her phone was stock (not rooted). Typical for Samsung phones but they are easy to rescue with Odin.

Well I got it to OTA to 902 but it won't recognize or charge either battery though they are both full. The phone immediately shuts down when unplugged and turns itself off as soon as it boots to the lock screen too. Wiping the phone doesn't help. Doesn't seem like any firmware will fix this issue. Off to Verizon.

I think something actually shorted out in that phone. I finally have a warrantied phone from VZW after a week. I updated it to 902 no problem. I don't think I'm going to root it. I was actually pretty close to just getting an iPhone. I just need a reliable phone at this point.

I can hide bloat in the launcher already.
I simply won't install apps that I don't like the permissions on. Previously I'd deny them their permissions with root.
I'll ignore ads as best as possible.
Reboot is built into the phone Vol Up/down plus power.
Tethering was rare and I can USB tether.
Screen grabber works without root.
I'll miss Webtop without the adapter.
I wasn't a ROM'er on these phones.

Reports are that battery use is better in 5.9.902 and you might not need to switch to CDMA only.

Are you positive that you were NOT in CDMA only those times it would not switch from 3G to 4G? Sometimes it can be set the way you didn't intend.

Positive Thom. It seems there was 2 issues going on at the same time...

The first one is VZW is still tweaking the 4G in my area, the coverage area seems to be getting larger, stonger & more stable everyday.

The second issue was, after 902 OTA it seems mobile outlook backup was hanging and/or starting when I hsad little to no coverage. This would drain my battery within 5 hours. I shceduled this task to happen at night when I am sleeping... I also got the extended battery... seems to help alot. Still have to monitor for rouge processes. Thank again.

Well I had to reboot last night already to get data service, in the middle of Los Angeles. So much for 902...

On another note, my wife's sister bought my wife an iPhone 4S last night. The hardware is top notch but the 3.5" screen is so 2007. Completely unusable for web browsing IMO. Feels like my backup phone, the Eris. It will be interesting to see if she keeps it or goes back to the Fascinate.

Yesterday was a yo-yo. Sometimes it came back itself. Sometimes airplane mode brought it back. Sometimes it just didn't come back. Today I have had one drop so far.

Perhaps the reboot that seemed to bring it back for you was just that it was finally time for it to come back and you "lucked into it"?
