6/21 Maintenance Update thread. Rolling out now.

I am having the same issue. My Yahoo Mail stopped working probably around mid night last night. It had been running on GB 2.3.3 for a couple of weeks. I upgraded to this 6/21/11 release this morning. The problem is still there.

Update: my Yahoo Mail problem is that it does not get new mail from the server. The last one I got was around 10pm last night. If I use my PC to retrieve Yahoo mail, I get lots of them.

I also noticed that my FB shows empty content on the News Feed. If I use a PC to see FB, I can see lots of updates. But on Evo 4G, it shows empty.

Try checking the check frequency settings for your account on the EVO.
sometimes after updating, things get defaulted back to factory not your custom settings.

I checked the email download frequency and it remained unchanged. I also did several manual refreshes. Still can't get new email...

So then how do you explained that it worked flawlessly in all conditions prior to the update and now it doesn't?

It worked in a quiet environment before. It still does now after the update.

It worked with normal background noise before, like in a running car, airport, mall. It does not now after the update.

The only explanation is the update.

I wish those of you who are not having this issue would just stop confusing the issue. It is a widespread issue that is real and was caused by the update.

Wow - that's un-called for.
When was the last time you updated the voice search app itself as drexappeal suggested?
it's version 2.1.4 now...

I cleared the Data on FB and signed back in. It still shows empty content. It was working perfectly until this morning....

Other items on FB seem to work fine. It just does not get News Feed.

On my Yahoo Mail, I found that I could send email out. But I cannot receive new email at all.

Odd. My Facebook App is working like a charm. Makes me think something else is going on with your phone. Wish I could help more. I don't use the Yahoo Mail app but I remember people having problems with it a while back. Turned out the issue was Yahoo updated something with protocols or something along those lines. I would get with Yahoo support just to see or maybe start a thread in Support and Troubleshooting just for Yahoo Mail.

^^^^
Agreed. Google updates it's core apps like Voice Search and Maps separately so it makes sense that they would update it in the Market which it has. I would suggest checking the market before getting flippant with users seriously trying to help.

Agreed.
Usually, Google puts out the specs of the OS change & it's up to these app developers to adjust to it.
Blaming SPCS or HTC means that you are uneducated in how these things operate.

It's a smartphone for a reason...

I tried that fix myself - updated the voice search app in the Market - then tested to see if voice would work again under noisy conditions. For me, updating the voice search app did nothing. :( I did the "fix" today, then updated the voice search app, but my phone still doesn't recognize voice under noisy conditions, where previously it had no problems at all. As someone stated earlier, this is a safety issue to me because I always used voice when setting locations for my GPS. Now, I have to be at a stoplight or risk typing in an address while driving. I really hope they fix this soon because I used voice input a LOT for GPS. :(

By the way, the first update changed my HTTP Proxy/Port back to the default one, so I changed it back to 0 and 0.0.0.0. When I installed the "fix" today, it changed it back AGAIN to the default. Just an FYI ...

i dont know about everyone else but my speakers sound like surround sound now after this update. i havent had a problem with the yahoo email account so i am not sure what was wrong with it. havent tried the yahoo app, actually didnt know it existed.

Same here. I applied the maintenance update today and also updated voice search. It still will not work unless there is quiet.

Who knows, maybe they officially planned to screw up these phones hoping that we'd get pissed and buy the 3D version.......Nice QC Sprint......!

Would you laugh if I mentioned the banner add I just saw on this site at the top touting the "Nexus S 4G, the first phone with integrated Google voice". :)

Did it and they came back....but when I did a power down and back up again same old shit.....so no fix is not fix.....just seems that way....I guess never to power off phone.......Thanks anyway!

Sorry, I meant that you had to do the scene fix after every reboot. Make sure you wait until the SD card is mounted before performing the "fix".

Gotta say, I have been waiting since June 3rd to get this update out of fear of messing everything up.

The last version of Froyo is working absolutely FINE on my phone and I don't want to risk losing important capabilities on my phone. Namely:

I am hooked up with wireless N and enjoy the extra range in my house.
I use voice to text ALL THE TIME.
I have Netflix up and working.

It seems like I will lose these functions once I update, as well as risk getting strange other bugs discussed here and elsewhere like Pandora problems and icon/memory problems.

Is there really any reason to update to Gingerbread? Ugh. I've forgotten what all the great improvements are, can anyone remind me why it is worth the upgrade?

Seems like all my issues are fixed, but stupid me uninstalled Netflix and it's not in the market......so the waiting game begins.....

......spoke to soon....as soon as I did a reboot.....the generic android apps symbol has replaced some of my icons......oh well nice try......cant wait on the SG2......EVO officially on my shit list.......Just like Apple/Iphone!

Yo, email me if you need the file

I backed up my netflix before i installed todays update. I was still on 2.2, updated today and no issues so far.

Why were people expecting something exciting in this update?

It was to fix problems from the 2.2 to 2.3.3 upgrade. I understand not everyone had them, but I did. Very annoying to have Sense crash everytime I would use the phone.

Netflix now works - for everyone.

GPS would turn on at random times. No longer does.

I didn't have the voicemail issue.

Anyway, todays update was to fix bugs, not add new content.

Yes, Netflix works if you have the older version and will probably be fixed soon for those who don't know where to download it.

Voice to text may or may not be improved.

And wireless N capability loss, I don't think that's coming back. I think we lose that permanently with Gingerbread. Even though there's only one antennae in the phone, it still has better range with N than on G. I think this will be the thing I miss the most.

I just want to know if Gingerbread in general adds anything special as compared to Froyo. It almost seems to take more away (wireless N and bugs) than it adds.

I mentioned it in the gingerbread thread, but if it's voice search that you're having issues with, there's an update in the market I just noticed.

I appreciate your attempt to help, but that was not the problem, nor did it fix the problem.

Voice to text still doesnt work while driving, unless you are at an almost dead stop, no AC blowing, etc.

installed latest update. Completed factory reset.

Here are my results based on what was broken on my Evo:

Folder Icons: Still Broken
Wireless N: Still Broken
Speak to Text : Still Broken when Bluetooth is on.
HTC Logo popping up issue: Fixed
Netflix: Fixed
Compass: Fixed

FWIW I ran the voice update just now and sitting in the living room with a window AC unit running ten feet away it does still register my voice (without yelling into the bottom mic hole of the phone), but it's comprehension feels like the early 90's again with voice recog still. I observed earlier today pre-voice app update, in my (noisy) vehicle, even yelling into the mic would produce zero effect on the little Mic picture, if I had to guess they use some sound processing and noise reduction for voice on these things and they screwed the levels up. It might be better with this update in-vehicle, will check later. I know it don't recognize speech for crap though, I've been sitting here talking to it for half an hour the same phrases I always say, and it get's the last 1/2 to 1/4 of a sentence/phrase, if that. Essentially useless now. Also my cat thinks I've lost my mind.

So.. Can/will the sprint store roll one of these back to 2.2?
Or are we stuck waiting, or rooting, or buying another phone if we are impatient suckers (like myself)?

I was praying that today's fix would solve the speech to text and it didn't. I drive 12 hours a day, and this was my primary concern. Oh well. It won't recognize any voice at all unless its essentially a silent environment. I think this could be easily resolved if they would just rollback this one feature to the Froyo version. Poop.

Just had Sense (htc logo) crash on me for the first, and only time, since today's update (downloaded this morning) after using Google Maps for 20 seconds.

Had done a factory reset after prior update sue to these issues.

Happened more frequently before today, using stock browser and random apps.. but, either way, it did happen just now.

Also, when I turned gps widget on, gps remained off.

Yeah, I realized that after a few people had updated. Feel bad. I hate to hear when people are having bad experiences with their updates because I was one of the few that got a double froyo update on my first EVO and it completely bricked the phone...LOL (well, I can LOL about it now because that's way in the past, but still sucks).

Nontheless, my only other resolution that I could come up with is the fact that using my bluetooth w/ a2dp seems to work perfect with that, even though I don't use it a lot. For those that are wondering which bluetooth headset I use, I have a Jawbone ICON.

I just received the update here in NYC. Installing now.

Earlier today I got an alert to update Voice Search, so those who had problems with that app, may want to update their apps and see if the update fixes their problem with Voice Search.

Alright, so I have been googling like crazy.. looking for possible fixes for the Speech to Text/Voice Search issue. So maybe you guys have already found and tried this stuff, but I haven't seen it on here so I'll post what I found.

Here's the first one that I found. It has to do with turning off the Personalization Settings of Google Voice and the voice recognition. I didn't realize that Google actually keeps recordings of your voice on your Google account (online), and uses them to help recognize your voice tendencies. You can actually clear that out online and start fresh! Some claimed that fixed their problem. Link: Voice search broken after Gingerbread update. - Google Mobile Help

Next, this thread actually has a Google employee and Sprint employee recognizing and acknowledging the problem. The resolution here is that the Google Maps update somehow messed up the Voice Recognition. They removed the update and re-updated Maps in the Market, and claim it fixed the issue. Link: Google Voice Search "No Speech Heard" error - Google Mobile Help

I did both. I'm hoping when I get in my car tomorrow.. it will be fixed (fingers crossed).

Also, when I turned gps widget on, gps remained off.

I have this problem also since GB.
If you turn it on; then off; then back on it works and the icon in the top bar will show its on but this is a stupid work around for something I feel would be a single line of code fix.
Really makes me feel my Evo is a cheap pile of crap
