6 hour battery life

Tweeter black_man_x panda postes that prime has about 6 hour battery life. If true, that is similar to thunderbolt battery life. With big screen and LTE, I guess poor battery life is expected.

Kinda disappointing.

i can make any phone die in 6 hours if i use all 6 hours doing stuff on it.

Truth.

I don't think the thunderbolt would get 6 hours using it non-stop. 4 at best. So if im using the net all day. Thats a big step up, 6 hours.

Half brightness. The TB loses 1% every 5 minutes just being on. That drops drastically when in use to like 2% every minute or so browsing.

Are you kidding me...this is a lame post.

The phone is not even released yet and "black man x" is reporting on it's terrible battery life? How was he using it...what apps was he running...how did he have it configured...what was the syncing options set up at...brightness settings...3g/4g/wifi settings...etc...etc...etc.

The difference those settings can make is the difference between a phone lasting 4 hours and 24 hours.

To be fair this is a concern for a decent amount of us out there. Comming from the Incredible which in my opinion has absolutely terrible battery life I would really like to have a phone that I could have and use for 8 hours without a charge.

This is one are where the Iphone completely trumps most Android phones. I went to the pumpkin patch last weekend and my wife used her Iphone 4 the whole hour trip checking her e-mial and used the map nav to get up there while also streaming music. While we were there she shot video and took a crapload af pics. I was shocked that we got home and my incredible was completely dead and she still had 23-20% left.

Her I phone uses like 30% of the battery on a full day where her old OG droid would need a charge around 1 or 2:00.

Can't agree more. We have no idea how he was using, testing it. It could be not the final product. Problem is there is no baseline to judge its battery performance. I think he must be using it pretty heavily in some way and phones like Tbolt would be like 3 hours, Bionic might be similar 5~6 hours under the same usage by him.

Bottom line is let's not take his words as final judgement on Prime's battery performance. No one knows until the phone is out.

I also have the DInc and love it. I have 3 extra batteries and a charger that I paid $12 for and use everyday - sometimes 2 full batteries a day. But that is under heavy usage (like your wife). Can you even change the battery in her iPhone?

Anyway, I know the iPhone is better under the battery cover. But that's a trade-off I'm not willing to make. If I'm in the car using nav, I am plugged in. If I am taking video at the pumpkin patch, I have an extra battery in my pocket. Yes, it takes extra planning but it's worth it. Android uses widgets, notifications, active sync and other items that I just won't give up and they will not have a break-through on battery life anytime soon.

If you are buying a phone strictly for the battery, buy an iPhone. But if you want the experience and can adapt to more frequent charging or extra batteries (easy for me), than go Android.

You call this a lame post and then suggest 24 hours battery life on an LTE smartphone? Uhhh, I don't think so.

Also, BMX is an insider. He may be a bit arrogant, but I for one take his comments as useful. He knows if a device, comparatively speaking, has good or poor battery performance. I assume his assessment is under heavy usage with all options activated. And why not? Features and eye candy are what I love and desire in a smartphone. Why have a device like these if you can't use it to it's full potential? And having to dumb the phone down to get 8 hours of battery life, to me, is sad. But, I know that's the way it is.

I will purchase one of these Android devices, but I reserve the right to be disappointed with a less than optimum user experience.

If its 6 hours non stop using 4G, that would be nice.

I agree just saying 6 hours battery life isnt saying much. Is that talk time, using 4G, surfing the web, heavy, moderate, light use?

He further clarified his previous battery comment as below. This makes sense and I feel better. That's pretty heavy use. Stock Tbolt would be done in less than 3 hours.

"black_man_x
Let me further clarify my battery statement.. I use about 4gb a day in data so I kill a bionic battery in 4 hours so to get 6 will be great"

Wow...that changes the whole deal - 4gb of data PER DAY!!! Holy smokes!!!

I averaged .445MB of data over the past 3 months. What do you do with 4gb's a day! I can't even imagine!!!

Huh...well that's certainly a turnaround from "battery life sucks" and "Wasn't really joking about the battery..."

Maybe I should take back all those nice things I said about black_man_x above. He's done a friggin' 180 on this. LOL

He is a tester and is pretty good with info. I am sure he knows how to tweak his phones to make them last. Just another lte phone with shit battery life. I'll pass until they get better battery life. No matter what speeds you get it does nothing if you always have to have the phone plugged in.

So you are expecting all day battery life while blasting through 4Gb per day? Then you should be waiting more than an year for such phone. 6 hours under such use is not bad at all to me. I get nowhere near 1Gb per day.

6 hours is still pretty shitty. You can download 4gb on lte in a few minutes and then what it just dies? I mean come on we should not have to accept sub par battery life. The phone doesn't need to be 8mm thick put a larger battery and add some heft to the phones.

^But....6 hours 4G basically non stop is still better than whats out now. I agree with Sandroid, if anyone wants anything better than that without an extended battery just wait til next year when the 4G, LTE technology gets better.

What size is the battery in the Prime? If its under 2000 mAh 6 hours 4G isnt bad. If its 2000 or higher....there's your larger battery.

And I thought the Charge got nice battery life? if so the Bionic getting similar to the Charge is nice for a 4G phone.

I'm looking for battery life similar to an iphone or something that last 1 day.

When I had my thunderbolt, I charge it twice a day and it still ran out of battery around dinner time. I hope the nexus can do better.

that is going to be tough to find with newer phones on android that is.

it depends on your use. I don't use my phone that much during the day and usually i can make it easily till i get off work.

I'd certainly take a slightly thicker and heavier phone for more battery life.

That said... if it's not appreciably different from the current crop of 3G phones, then so what?

Motorola and Samsung Android phones have been better in the battery life dept vs. HTC for the most part, so the Prime shouldnt be too much of a problem.

I think the TBolt was a first to LTE victim....that and HTC over tha past year just seems to miss the mark with battery life. When they do try to hit the mark....they ship the phone with a tiny ass battery...so they still miss the mark.

HTC battery trouble stems from two things from what I figured.
First, they stick with Snapdragon processor in their phone. Snapdragon is not so power efficient compared to OMAP and Exynos. Qualcomm promises significantly lower power consumption in upcoming 28nm, Krait core S4 snapdragon next year. But it has yet to make into phones yet. The current S3 dual snapdragon seems closer to OMAP4, but it's still slightly more battery hog in genera. And for some reason HTC is not so fond of putting big enough battery in their phones, so this doesn't help either.

Secondly the Sense UI in HTC seems to be another culprit for battery hog as rooted HTC phones with vanilla android runs much longer than stock phone. New Blur and TW 4.0 UI in new Moto, Samsung seem to manage power much better. So it will be interesting how Vigor, Holiday do in battery with S3 snapdragon and latest Sense. But I'm not expecting too much.

4GB of data a day? Jeebus!!

To be honest, I don't even think I use that much data in a month. No wonder he drained the battery in 6 hours.

lol...Agreed! I'll kill any phone if I dont put it down for 6 hours!

No way to even know a true answer to how battery life is on the Prime in the real world until we have our paws on it and put it through it's paces.

But remember when the bionic was coming out and they said they were getting 15 hours out of it and everyone that has it knows you wont get that unless you barely use the phone. I'll wait for more real world tests before I decide.
