Root .605

I am pretty tired of these updates that fix next to nothing. I don't like the keyboard lag, but I am not going to SBF to get it fixed. I simply re-named the BlurUpdater_VZW.apk to .bak in root explorer under system apps.

Never get another OTA notification again. Glad to help for those who don't want to take this update and keep getting that annoying notification every few hours.

My reason for not taking .605 is because I will wait until some good ROMs come out for it or until MIUI is able to fix the camera issue at 6MP (I really like the widescreen res...)

Well for 90% of users they don't have to do anything to prepare for the updates. I don't think Moto releases them to irritate you.

Just got the notification to update and I hit cancel. I knew to come here first for concerns/questions. :D

I am on .602 using the linux boot cd method and rooted with the Droid 3 (Pete?) 1 click method. Think I'll hold off on the updates for now. Prefer to have a nandroid backup first. Never did get around to freezing apps with Titanium. Wanted to get a 2nd backup done after freezing bloatware.

Was on .602 with one click root, updated to .605 last night when the popup came up on the phone and it worked fine. Phone is still rooted oddly enough.

so my question is to you. Would you rather not see any updates for long periods of times or frequent updates to know that at least Moto/VZW haven't forgotten about the X?

I didn't mean it in that way. I just wanted to let people know that they can turn off the notifications. And no, they haven't forgotten about the X since most all of us are only half way or more into the contract period for the best phone of 2010.

Rooted on .602. Just got pushed the .605 update and it is ready to install. I do not want to install. I had some of the bloat frozen with TI but it did not seem to stop the download. How do I get rid of the update and stop the install? I currently have it postponed for 1 hour :D.

dont forget the X still sees updates... which is surprising, but its phasing out, as this last update will probably be the last it ever sees :( until there is a ICS 2init rom for us. and by them i will be on a different device still trying to maintain the dx rom and theme thread :p

Look at your contract. Remaining on staff is linked to your remaining on your phone... forEVER. Yup. (except if you're a mod). :p

Two of the guru's post afterwards and you all don't know ... Guess I'm going to trudge forward:confused:

You got into the boot loop because you ran the update with apps frozen. As had been stated earlier in this thread, you have to have everything unfrozen and nothing deleted, otherwise it won't install. It will download fine, but the install will fail and send you into a boot loop.

P3Droid has uploaded the All-In-One file for 605 to the TBH app. I downloaded but the file didn't install because it was corrupt. I'm redownloading now.

I redownloaded the app after 9am this morning (after P3droid seemed to make an update) and the install went fine. It fails on the radio update, but i don't really care about that. Now time to Deodex!

Hey guys,

I accepted the .605 update last night and then manually re-rooted via adb (no 1-click root app for me, LOL :p).

I occurred to me how silly all this was... ClockworkMod was still obviously installed on our phones, so why hasn't someone made a flashable update.zip file that will simply re-install the su and Superuser.apk files?

There are at least two examples of this that we use / used for the HTC Droid Eris (rootme.zip, engtools.zip for any that care to remember)...

Seems like this would be much simpler...am I missing something here (other than having such an update.zip file created--which shouldn't be a big deal...I'm sure I could take one of the old Eris ones and update its binaries with fresh tools)?

Cheers!

I was on rooted 602 and wanted to try and get the 605 OTA. This is weird but..... I used Z4root to UN-root thinking I would then be able to get the OTA. Z4 did the UN-root fine but the OTA failed just as before when I was rooted. I guess I have to SBF to 602 but I would like to Titanium backup before I SBF. How can I get root back now can anyone help?

z4 only works on froyo. Try going back to froyo via sbf and taking the ota. Then you can restore the data partition of your gb nandroid, from the "advanced" menu in clockworkmod recovery.

I used the Droid 3 one click unroot from Pete. Took the manual update. Success. Rerooted with the Droid 3 tools, I still have root.
