.893 update NOW!

As we speak right now no data connection on my phone..No 3g or 4g connection...but when it does come back its on 3g full signal. Might take 10 minutes or so

I have rebooted the phone about 3-5 times now but I think since I bought the phone in September I've probably took the battery out at least 70 times to reboot.

Instead of battery pulls, press and hold vol up and vol down and then press and hold power - it will soft reboot.

I rooted using petes one click root method. Can I install this ota update then re root? Anyone in this situation already do the ota?

It is discussed in the All things Root sub-forum.

Others have done it. It depends on what version you are on ... root-ed stock ... root-ed one of the leaks ...

Well after a full day of having the update I can still say that I have yet to have a single data connection problem like I used to. I travel in between 4G, 3G and wifi multiple times a day and it has been flawless in switching back and forth. Also, I'm not sure if it's the update or less traffic on the network but I clocked my 4g speed at 14 MB Down and 13.5 Up which I had yet to see speeds that fast since I got the phone in sept!!! :D

I just did one click root, used titanium backup to freeze bloat. No roms or anything else. Not sure if I have to remove bootstrap and titanium backup before doing the ota...can't find that answer anywhere else

My first bionic sucked at connectivity. my new one, even inside my home, just got about 22Mbs down, around 7Mbs up! (i'm avoiding the update)

It must be Christmas.... I received the OTA yesterday, works fine... Bionic is much smoother & faster now with no network lockups... And on my way to work this morning, my home/work area is 4G.... If I am dreaming, please don't wake me up. Whats's next ICS?

You're not going to install the update?

not if I can help it. there are too many people (across various forums) reporting issues with worse connectivity and BSOD's that didn't occur prior to the update. I see no upside for me personally--my replacement phone is stellar at holding a signal.

As mentioned ... the repository for all root-related discussions is in the All Things Root sub-forum of this forum.

What you will need to do is tell people what version of the system you are running in order to get an answer to your question.

(My Droid X has the current OS and is root-ed. By Bionic has 5.5.893 and is un-root-ed.)

that's just one day. PLEASE post again if your experience changes from good to poor, ok? Many a poster that reported initial happiness, reposted that the same old issues have returned.

I haven't had a bsod yet since the update, i probably just jinxed myself. I haven't seen much difference in my connection, no worse no better. Altough i just did a speed test here at my work and i got 24 up and and 14 down, which is pretty damn good. I'll have to see how the next couple of weeks go to see if connection has really improved or not. You don't care about the camera update?

I bet you meant 24 DOWN, right? :)

No, my camera focuses quickly (as have all 3 we have had). as long as there's sufficient light, the camera focuses in about a half second. the video sucks, due to focus "breathing"; something I've heard continues with the update, so I see no point for me to update.

ah yes i meant 24 down 14 up :o

I haven't really tested out the camera or video yet, mainly because I never really use them, so it's never been much of an issue for me.

I guess it is up for interpretation.

I was surprised at your statement about "many a poster" when I read it ... so ... I went back to the messages in this thread when 5.5.893 OTA was released and re-read them. I'm sorry ... I just don’t see the trend to which you refer. What I see is ...

-- A number of people on 5.7.893 who are watching the proceedings.
-- A number of people reporting improvements after going to 5.5.893
-- A few people who have experienced the same old problems as the past.

In software … a pretty “quiet” update.

His observations was about a BSOD … yes that ubiquities term that encompasses so many different problems.

IMNHO if we segregate the problems that we are lumping under the head ing “BSOD” … perhaps we can solve a few.

Thom, I frequent 3 Bionic forums. Today's comments show that early reports of success were premature for many posters, with respect to both BSOD's and 4G. I don't get all my info from just one source--I like to look at all the places people are most likely to post on the topics I'm interested in, in which case that being the Bionic update, at the moment.

You are welcome to your opinion.

I think you will find that the 5.5.893 camera app is so much better that 5.5.886 that you might want to reconsider not installing the OTA.

I think also that eventually we will wear enough away of the BSOD overuse that we can actually focus on solutions.

I've had one ... unexplained hang ... when all that network instability was going on for about 1-2 weeks.

I'm not root-ed, have 85 Apps installed (82 Market, two I wrote, one elsewhere), don't use a case or screen protector charge with OEM wall charger using USB that came with Bionic, connect Bionic to Windows 7 workstation using USB that came with Droid X cradle.

IF YOU ARE ROOTED DO NOT POST IN THIS THREAD ABOUT NOT RECEIVING THE UPDATE.

Please visit the All Things Root forum instead.

I was merely responding to someone having the same issue I have on a leaked update vs their OTA update. And we were talking about the market auto update too >.>.

speaking of OEM chargers, I've had to stop using non Moto chargers with my dock. my phone would become possessed in the middle of the night--opening apps, text typing into an alarm app, music playing, all sorts of freaky stuff. i narrowed it down to the charger. crazy but totally provable, as I swapped chargers back and forth to see the correlation.

Not at all crazy.

Remove as many unknowns as possible and it raises the probability that you can zero in on the culprit.

If it happened to someone and the screen went unresponsive they would report it as "yet another BSOD". After they did the OTA install and it happened again it would be reported as "got another BSOD after the update".

that's true. If i didn't see what happened to my phone a few times with it in the dock, with my own eyes, I'd never have believed how bizarre a phone could act. it was like unseen fingers typing on it, as well as opening up stuff.

I have seen marked improvement on my bionic since the update, the signal connectivity is incredibly better, switches between 4G/3G seamlessly as it should, and haven't seen any BSOD's where I was getting them almost daily before. Seems to be much better.
