.893 update NOW!

I was getting Sam message and it finally came through.
I turned airplane mode on then off.I don't know if that did it, but you can try it.

I had it unchecked there before the OTA.

Again ... mine did not change with the OTA installation.

A month or so ago I had 8 installed apps show up with it checked (I never have it checked). I went through all my installed apps one at a time and unchecked it whenever I found it.

The problem has not come back.

This update has turned my phone into what I wanted it to be on launch day. SO happy.

For the past couple of months I've had constant data drops and spent most of my time stuck on 3G from my house even though I'm in a solid 4G area. I knew the data drops were a known bug but I thought the 3G/4G thing might have been a tower issue.

Downloaded the update with wifi this morning so it wouldn't take forever on 3G. As soon as I applied the update, 4G returned and has not disappeared once.

All the other updates are great too. As long as it took, I'm really happy they appear to have got this update right. Fingers crossed.

I know that I can't manually install the update if I have 5.7.893, but will I get it OTA if I have installed 5.7.893?

I know its supposed to be the same thing so I don't need to hear that response.

I did not receive notification of the update...however, I've been pretty routine about checking for system updates in settings > about phone. This morning it said the update was available, so naturally...

No problem installing. Battery life is MUCH better. Mine's been off the charger for 10.5 hours with bluetooth on, 4G on (in a 4G area), data sync real time, checking emails, and texts throughout the day, using the Verizon extended battery...(circle battery widget) battery showing 70 right now. I downloaded and installed this update on this charge as well.

Camera recycle rate is quite fast now.

This fix "Improved stability to avoid power cycles" did not work yet on mine. It power cycled just a few minutes ago.

Too soon to speak of the 3G-4G handoffs/drops.

There seems to be some confusion. The OTA is 5.5.893 and it is reported that it is the same as the leaked 5.5.893 (the oldest leak).

There is a leaked 5.7.893 that is NOT the same as the 5.5.893 OTA. It is probably a later version. That will be known for sure if and when it is ever released as an OTA.

OK, so is the only way for me to get the OTA is to SBF back to an earlier version?

I guess the question is ... why would you want to?

I chose a different approach ... install no leaks and go with the stock distribution. They pushed me 5.5.893 and I installed it.

You installed a bunch of leaks and are now at 5.7.893. If you guessed correctly you are already ahead of 5.5.893 and eventually a 5.7.893 will become an OTA and pushed to me. I will then "catch up" to where you are.

So ... stay with your current approach and simply wait. If for some reason you want to change your approach try to revert to 5.5.886 and get then apply the 5.5.893 OTA update. I have no insight into that. You could check ... http://androidforums.com/motorola-droid-bionic/460371-893-update-now.html#post3625285 ... for a little more information.

You will know that you guessed correctly if/when 5.7.893 is distributed as an OTA.

Good luck.

got my .893 last night.
yeah the camera is better.
I had some funny things happen today though. It took forever for my phone to hook up to my car blue tooth, the first time after the upgrade. After the first time it was fine.
I had a rather long conversation on the phone and when I was done I tried to dial another number and all I got was "there is no network available, you can only make 911 calls" or something like that. After 5 minutes it was back to normal.
I still seem to dropping 4G, 3G, whatever. looks like no improvement there for me. I'll keep a closer eye on it for the next few days.
Other than that, life is good.

I have been on 5.7.893 for some time. I still have problems with apps autochecking their auto update upon installation. My setting is set to not auto update by default. I usually use Titanium Backup to check my apps to see what is set to autoupdate and then unchecking all of them at once. Been like that for a while for me :/. Wonder if it's only certain people with certain things that's having this issue. I usually ignore it >.>

Yeah...I got nothing, even checking for an update. :'(

Whomp, whomp, whomp...

Keep checking.

Got it last night and no problems to report. Can't wait to see if this resolves the data issues for me. If so, I will be very happy with the phone again.

It should resolve data issues that are related to your phone, but a lot of data issues are actually on VZWs end, so until they get that fixed, don't be surprised that you may still experience some.

I keep getting the following message when I check for updates:

"Check for update is not available at this time. Try again later."

Any idea how I get it to dl the update?

Just wait and try again - the network is probably choked b/c everyone is already DLing it.

Hi
Update was pushed to my device a couple days ago butI kept getting an install failure.
I did a factory reset as suggested by guy at shop and waited for today. now that update is
generally available I still get an install error. It downloads fine but after install and reboot I get a software install failed message. What can I do! Its a stock device and I did factory reset already. No 3rd party apps.
HELP

Did you root? If so, go to the rooted section.

If not, then post a screen shot of your about phone, please.

Hey guys,
I have a rooted bionic that is NOT forever rooted, just the regular root. I rooted so I could install Titanium backup and I have several apps "frozen" What happens if I run the update?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Probably fail. Unfreeze everything. Also, you're better off applying 43v3r root before applying the update. Otherwise you'll have to reroot.

Installed the update this AM. Everyday on my way to work I leave 4G to 3G and normally for the first hour or two at work I have no data from it switching over... today.... I HAVE DATA right away!!!! :)

Camera focuses right away now too instead of thinking for about 20 seconds.

I just got it, 15 minutes ago. The camera is much better. I'm in a solid 4G area right now, so will see what happens when I get home in a fringe area for data drops!

Hope the random reboot stop!!

Yeah, I realize now that when I kept telling folks I didn't have camera issues at all, I was one of the very first adopters of the 5.5.893 update when it was leaked, and so I could not understand why folks had issues with the camera.

Now you all get to experience what I've been seeing for the last 2+ months. Enjoy the new and improved BIONIC 1.1 :D

I'm getting the same thing. Is this normal if you haven't received the update yet?

I am rooted but have the original software on it 5.5.886.XT875.

Any thoughts?

I received the update and it failed. I am rooted and had frozen some apps so I am guessing that is the problem. I tried to unfreeze the apps but the clown developer has removed the app used to freeze them from the market, even though it was a paid app. I tried to unfreeze them with another app but I am not sure that worked either because I am still rooted. Can you apply this update to a rooted phone? If not, I guess I will find some instructions on how to unroot it and try again . I am not positive about which apps were frozen so I guess my last resort may be to do a factory reset???
Anyone know anything?

I am rooted and received the update but the update failed. I am working on unrooting and removing the "freeze" on some apps.
Why do these people have to be so CS? They are getting as bad as Apple, thinking they still own your damn phone.

No update for me yet :L I never seem to get these early on.

Did the manual update search, rebooted phone etc. Just gonna have to be patient I guess!

manual update is out there search for leaked 5.5.893 file - it;s the same identical file. I verified it myself.

Mine updated as well. Camera is for sure focusing faster. Let's hope the more important issues were indeed addressed and the phone is where it should be.

Thanks, that's the first thing I did when I saw the apps were all updating on their own. I had it unchecked there before the OTA.

Oh yes...CAMERA FOCUS IS MUCH BETTER! :)

i actually have data in 2 of my most common areas. omg i may end up loving this phone now

I know its supposed to be the same thing so I don't need to hear that response.

If you have 5.7.893, you'll have to wait until either 1) we get a signed kernel so we can revert, or 2) the 5.8.894 gets released OTA - and that will be a month at least.

Ok, so is the only way for me to get the OTA is to SBF back to an earlier viersion?

NO! You cannot SBF (and it's FXZ now not SBF) back once you're on 5.7.893. Do not try to do it b/c you're phone will then always display a Flash error on boot and not do anything without you manually powering off and then loading the bootloader and then selecting normal boot.

My phone does this, and it's barely an annoyance for me, but if you're not really savvy like I am it will start pissing you off in about 3 seconds flat.

After updates, let the phone boot, and then after things settle down, manually reboot again is the rule of thumb.

Downloaded the 5.5.893 update this morning and still having the same problems with losing data. I got the phone when it came out in September and all I've heard was this update was going to fix the data issues. Well it didn't work! Try another update you might get it right next time!

It could be your area - it's not just the phone, it's the phone in concert with VZW.

VZW has been experiencing growing pains with the LTE network, and too many people have reported marked improvement, although a small percentage have reported that it made no difference and even smaller percentage reported that it got worse.

I am just getting a Bionic and have been following this post. I see some people reporting that they are losing data. Can you please provide more details - what kind of data, how are you "losing" it was it erased from phone?

Thanks for the explanation, I am switching from a TB to Bionic because of the very same issue. I was told that the Bionic had the issue when switching between 3G and LTE (hopefully this update will fix it for most people) but I was having that problem in 3G only area and switching was not an issue.

My wife is on a 3g phone with full signal at our house. It just could be the area but I think the phone should switch from 4g back to 3g faster than it does. When I'm home the phone is on the 4g 1bar(signal) and then the signal goes away and loses data sometimes it swithches back to 3g and sometimes you have to take the battery out or turn off phone to reboot. Anyone know if they are having the same issue with the other 4g phones (losing data when your on the border of a 4g area)?

Most people are reporting better results with both switching between 3 and 4 as well as data drops, but some did experience worsening conditions. Your wife's phone is not a BIONIC, so you cannot use that as a comparison.

Speaking of which, how many times did you reboot the phone after applying the update?

I have rebooted the phone about 3-5 times now but I think since I bought the phone in September I've probably took the battery out at least 70 times to reboot.

well 2/3 of areas that im normally in that worked well on droid 1 work no worse than said phone. 3rd spot had to do the airplane trick to get 3g but heck at least i get it now. vast improvement and something i can live with vs the 80% no data before.

on a side note im sure it was my phone that deleted a </div> on the site i was just working on... whistles
