Root A few rooting issues and questions

Ok so I just followed the guide for Unrevoked and Im pretty sure it worked because I was able to use SetCpu and the wireless tethering app worked fine. I cant get into the recovery mode when I try hitting volume down and power combined. I really would like to get Koni's Elite ROM flashed or w.e onto my EVO but Im not sure where to start and If its too complicated my main two things are to have my battery last several hours 10+ if possible, make the phone run quick no lag and have wireless tethering work which is done.

Also Im trying to freeze bloatware, I just bought titanium backup and it says its installed but i cant find it on my apps list and when i go to the market to hit open its grayed out, so im really confused...as to what i need to do to get TB working so I can freeze all of the bloatware.

Im going to eat dinner but not sure if anyone has some type of Instant messenger and would be able to help me out, that'd be amazing, this community is such an amazing community, everyone is so helpful I love it.

when you press vol. down and power does your bootloader screen come on? as far as titanium back up is concerned you need to download the free version then buy the key that allows you freeze bloatware.... did you that?

No its not working, but I know my phone is rooted because I got the setcpu and wireless tethering working. Its really odd, although when I first, used unrevoked when it was done it was in some type of bootloader screen.

Power your phone off...then press and hold volume down and then press power...does it go to the white bootloader screen? If so does hboot say s-off?

It doesnt let me get into the bootloader screen, for some odd reason, but I know I rooted the phone because I got SetCpu to work and wireless tethering.

I only got into a bootloader type screen once, right after I did the unrevoked method.

If you power off then volume up and power will it go to recovery?

Do you by any chance have the PC36IMG file on your sd card still? (not sure if that could even cause this problem but maybe)

I've never had someone not get to bootloader, it's pre system and as such in my experience always safe...?

I formatted the SD Card before I did the root so I shouldnt have anything and hmn I cant get into recovery when I hit volume down and power it just says ringer off, I did a temp root and I know what you're talking about its odd that it wont let me get to recovery..

Download terminal emulator. Open it and type su...should change from $ to#...and request super user permission...does this work? Do you have the su app?

You would be surprised what you can do without s-off.

Having said all that you should still be able to get to bootloader....I'm may have to look into this one.

That's because your phone is on. Power off and try...

So power off, vol down and power on gives you nothing?

yeah definitely should try terminal emulator like Evomattnc said.

Hmn I tried your suggestion with the Terminal Emulator and it just force closes every time not sure what else to do..this is weird, I feel like I rooted the phone but something went wrong.

hmmm... and you wouldn't be able to re-run unrevoked because no bootloader....

when you do the vol-down and power, does the phone display anything? Or does it just act like a normal power on.

Also, what about those apps that can restart you into recovery and the like? Spare parts has that I think... would those work for you?

Does the computer recognize your phone when you plug it in?

Woops I downloaded the Terminal Emulator not the android terminal emulator. I typed su and it changed from a $ to a #. Not sure whats next thanks so much so far!

Just because he can't get to it doesn't exactly mean it ain't there lol. That's why I asked if his computer recognized it, I was gonna go down a similar path...

Yeah, that's what I meant, just didn't come out right... :P

I'm no ADB expert, but would it be possible to use the bootloader/recovery options from adb?
