Root A great opportunity

Asking repeatedly on multiple threads who and what people are working on (and also starting new threads) won't speed things up. Everytime I see there is a new post on a particular thread, I hope to see an exciting update. Instead my reaction is, "oh it's that user again".:banghead:

THIS... many times over.... I couldn't hold back anymore. I have a marquee and I can't wait for a kernel that has the performance of it when its plugged in or a straight up working CM7 mod... but since I can't do either on my own I wait patiently for updates to this forum and the frequent "updates" from thomas do nothing but spark false hope.

I wrote bloodawn and told him i would get him one and he said he would he just didn't feel right with me spending that kind of money. So, if we all chip in it shows interest and relieves his not feeling right lol. The warp guys are chipping in to buy hroark a WARP. And, I haven't heard back from Kouma

Sorry, I never got back to you on that. I ended up flushing out my entire PM box cause it got full. :D
I have to be honest, I don't know how I would feel about accepting something like that, I don't think I could. You guys are too nice, the whole Android community is just way too awesome.

I do have to say that my wonderfully patient wife gets upset with the amount of time I already spend tinkering with the prevail as it is. If I started throwing more devices into the mix, I'm likely to end up divorced.

I could discuss it with her if you really wanted me to though, but I make no promises or predictions :)

Even if I did come put in time on your phone, you'll have to remember that the prevail is where my primary loyalties will always remain. That's just how it is

Hello everyone, prevail owner here.

I don't disrespect you guys in any way for what you're trying to accomplish here. Some people may find it underhanded or unethical, but I follow the "whatever it takes to win" approach myself, so I would not fault you guys for doing the same.

The issue that may arise from this, however, is that the prevail community might decide to do something similar. Then the warp community, then so on and so forth. It would ultimately just be a game of who can afford most.

The way I think this should be approached is figure out which phone *should* have the development backbone. Meaning which phone is most easily moddable, will be the most viable, etc.

Once that is agreed upon (and I realize it will change as new phones are released), plea this with the developers and regular users alike. I would buy a new phone tomorrow if I knew that it would be all that I wanted, and other prevail users aren't so different from myself.

Really, the reason behind prevail's success and strength is simply that it was the first boost phone with android. It has continued in strength because it did have a solid following and is now the cheapest android phone boost offers. These things combined simply make it the phone which the most people own.

If you truly want a great phone, with a great community and great development, there is no substitute for convincing people it is the best option. If people agree, they will purchase the phone too. This does include myself.

I was planning on sending the phone tomorrow, but I guess I'll just sell it in the classifieds..

For the record most of us were prevail users. Checks some of the threads and you will see

Good to hear! :D

I don't think I can afford to buy another smartphone right now, and really.. the Prevail has not done me wrong, yet.. I am not really into gaming and watching movies on my phone... I guess it would be cool to watch a movie here and there... but my eyes need a break from that small screen sometimes! :p

And I already have spent alot of time with my girl's Admire... which hopefully gets to where the Prevail is now... as in better custom roms and kernels with overclocking options...

And I agree, the Android community as a whole, has been wonderful... I have't enjoyed hanging in the forums so much... since I used to mod my Wii when when the homebrew community was started...

I think you should hold on to it for now and either talk to a dev that may be able to compile the source code but doesn't have the phone.

Im moving and could use the cash anyway.

If a dev wants to help they will. Soon when no one wants the prevail anymore, people will switch because people have high expectations that only increase, increase, and increase

I am a previous Prevail owner myself, and I did really like that phone.

I guess I am at a loss for understanding the reasoning of this post. I mean no disrespect whatsoever, but neither the Prevail, nor the Marquee are going to be around forever.

And if the reason a developer is not moving to a certain phone is economical, I see no reason why we can't pool our resources to help someone else out. We do that already by contributing to developers when we can.

I do not want to instigate any "phone war" as I have a lot of respect for the Prevail community. I feel I was active enough there to help and contribute, if in a small way.

But I don't think you can hold a developer "hostage" to any particular phone, and really there should be no gripes if they do move on to a different phone(s). Thank them and wish them luck!

Just my 2 cents, and now I'm broke. Really, I did my taxes yesterday.

One size fits all? Sure, that will work great, usually does.

im possibly sending it to a dev that does not own a prevail and has an LG Optimus background.

And i really dont understand his "goes to the highest bidder" logic. Considering the devs dont get paid and the devs would be asked prior if they had knowledge or,,,...idk..... if they WANTED to contribute but could not afford the phone.

Yeah, and i guess that means outsourcing is unethical. Somehow.. not really sure, but thats what he was implying.

I'm a little confused about what is going on here. Is Bloodawn no longer interested in developing for this phone, or Kamel just preturbed that marquee users were trying to get him to?

Monster-is that who you were referring to when you were saying you weren't going to send the phone now? If he isnt interested I understand, but if he is I wouldnt change my mind just because someone is acting pissy about it. But I guess I can't really say much because I am not the one with the extra phone or money to help out(i can barely pay my own bills.)

I am doing as much research on phone modding as I can, but as someone without a computer science background, I seriously doubt I will be about to build anything useful for the marquee. I am learning slowly though and maybe in a few months I will be able to contribute something myself. Until then it would be nice to have every capable person we could working on this phone and I wouldnt let anyones bad attitude/jealousy change my mind about it. Just my 2 cents though...

Btw: monster has done a kick ass job so far and without him and playfulgod I dont think we would have anything but bone-stock right now. Thanks for your hard work.

I really don't know why any Prevail users are getting worked up. I already said before that I was keeping my Prevail and would still work on it even if I got a new phone. besides, theres really not much more I can do to the Prevail, it takes me like a month to think of new shit to add to it right now.

Ok so this doesn't get any more confusing. It is my understanding that bloodawn is getting the phone from monster, and that I no longer need to collect donation commitments. Please someone clarify sooooo that I can keep this thread on topic

or Kamel just preturbed that marquee users were trying to get him to?

The intent of my post was clearly missed.

I think it was quite clear I did not post this with any emotion towards how awesome the prevail is and how people shouldn't try to "get" devs. Quite the opposite, actually... I was saying I'm willing to buy a different phone, so long as it's the right one.

This will be my final post here. I really am at a loss as to how my post could have been taken as anything other than positive motivation.

It was just in the wording. You just talked more negatively about what "others" could think then about positive motivation. So it just comes off more negative.

That mis-info + this thread (http://androidforums.com/galaxy-prevail-all-things-root/525451-they-stealin-our-devs.html) is just aggravating. We just dont want people to be misinformed saying that Bloodawn is leaving the prevail community.

Alright, I lied... I'll respond, because you were understanding. Thank you for that.

I can certainly see how people would be expecting my post to be negative after such allegations.

I can assure you, the only thing I was attempting to convey is that phone popularity is what drives a good development community. That isn't to say having a good dev and roms wont help the community grow, however.

PS: I still would like to know why I should give up my prevail for the marquee :)

The intent of my post was clearly missed.

If I misunderstood you, I apologize. It was just in the wording as Monster stated. I have had nothing but a good experience on this forum and everyone has been polite and more than helpful to me. So I didn't mean to come across that way either. And I wish I could explain all the reason to get a marquee, but I will just tell you-if you can-get a hold of one and see for yourself, you won't be disappointed! Going from the prevail screen to the 4" NOVA display of the marquee is reason enough for me. But once again, sorry for the misunderstanding.

I agree too. If I misunderstood you, I apologize.

As for the Marquee. I do like it. As I mentioned in other posts, the nova display, the two cameras, the on-board storage, and even though it is a small gain, the processor speed were what influenced me to buy the Marquee.

And, I am enjoying watching the development grow.

Sincerely...

It's cool guys, thanks for your apologies. Mistakes happen, it's how you handle them that really matters :)

At any rate, the marquee looks very nice. In the least, I would have the ability to scan barcodes back, which is kindof a big deal to me (I know, strange). I have found that barcode scanning apps seem to be pretty weak though. I wish I had a complete home inventory/shopping list style app that could utilize barcode scanning as a way to easily and quickly inventory items.

Maybe it's out there and I've totally missed it, but I digress. I don't want to hold this thread off topic any longer. It was never my intent to hijack this thread. I apologize for the disturbance.

Well,

The Marquee has an auto focus camera on the back that works well with RedLaser or Google Goggles...

No Snarkiness intended...

That's the thing. As a dev refines his/her work, changes come only when there is a significant breakthrough, and the more breakthroughs there are, the more time there is between them. That finds us wanting to fiddle with stuff and nothing to fiddle with.
That leads to bringing more devices in under the "umbrella of development" :)

So things like CTmod, which is pretty stable, and will probably stay that way till Blood respins it to be an ICS mod, which is a single phone mod, might be ported to more devices. This means more devices get the cool stuff, and Blood gets to learn more about different devices and what can directly swap and what can't.

What seems unlikely to Blood, but is a real possibility when he starts bringing his ideas to other phones, is that CTmod could be another cross platform front runner, rivaling Cyanogenmod. It may sound far fetched, but even Cyanogenmod started out on a single device

I'm not really getting worked up and I'm a prevail user. Not sure why people are all in a fuss. Actually I'm kinda glad you are going to work on another phone. That way when I switch phones I'll know that CTMOD (or Bloodawn mod equivilent) will work on the marquee if an when I ever get it ;) You've done some great work and I look forward to seeing how you do on the marquee!

I've got to give Kamel some credit, he really got some discussion going on the Marquee thread where things are usually relatively quiet.

Also Blood, when you are working on that Boost phone from Monster, keep in mind that there is a Sprint version of the phone out here also :D Thanks.
