Root A N00b trying to get Rooted

hey all, sorry to piggyback on a n00b forum.

I've followed the ultimate updated guide several times, including checking out the video. I've used Hboot and installed the right driver (confirmed) but every time I try using unrEVOked (which I dled from the website, most uptodate version) I get an error message saying that my device "speedy" is not supported at this time.
I'm using a brand new HTC Desire
Android 2.2
Baseband 1.08.00.0429
Build 1.24.591.1
Software 1.24.591.1
WebKit 3.1

I've tried several times, restarting everything, tried using the custom recovery-image and the regular one. debugging is enabled, etc.

Hi, just thought I would let you know that as far as I can tell, the tablet doesn't use more data usage, as you suspected. I think I was watching it more closely on the tablet but it's difficult to guess how much usage it will use. All I can say is if you want to keep track of your data, I strongly recommend 3G Watchdog Pro. Whilst it isn't 100% accurate, it's very handy.

I have another issue/problem though (supprise supprise lol), I took some video footage using the camera app on Redux on my phone, but when I saved the files to my PC and tried to play them back, it is very stuttery to a point of unwatchable. The videos have been saved by the phone in m4v format. I have tried converting the files to another format using a program that I have got, but every time it gets near the end of the convert, it says error. I don't know if this is due to any copyright crap? And also, all the converted files are still unwatchable (watching the parts that have been done). The videos play back fine on my phone. I also need to convert the files as a couple of them need rotating, which I have another program for.

Thinking about it, I am sure that I have done this whole process before using my works PC (I am currently on holiday). Maybe I will wait and try it again at work. Just wondered if you guys knew of any issues? I know my PC played silly buggers during the rooting process.

This is driving me nuts! I have been trying to fix this problem for a few days now, with no luck. :mad:

I think the problem lies with the Superuser app and their new updates. I have tried installing the Superuser Update Fix but this doesn't seem to fix the problem.

My Market doesn't work and force closes everytime I try and do an update or download an app, the only way to get round this is uninstall the updates for the market and then quickly download an app. But it updates the market within minutes, so you have to be quick!

If I use Titianium, it tells me my Binary is out of date and when you try to fix it, it nevers fixes and tells you to try again. :confused:

I've been going round and round and round, searching on Google and what not but I'm not getting anywhere! This happened a few days ago and has been driving me potty! Why do things keep getting "updates" as half the "updates" I've had have caused me problems rather than fixed them!

Any ideas anyone?

uninstall the market update
then go to system/app and remove marketupdater (if you have s-off)
 
Jog my memory again as it’s been awhile since I rooted. S off is sense off or something isn’t it, I don’t think I did this in the end so unable to do this.

With the Superuser Update Fix app, if I load it, it says everything is OK but if you force fix it, it will force close.

I am running Redux if this is any help?
 
No because the market would still want to update, if your not s-off. Then the easiest way is to go into the Rom zip file and remove market updater, then re flash the Rom. You don't need to wipe or anything, just turn off your WiFi and data connection and uninstall the market update and flash, also don't unzip the Rom just remove the update part.
 
Here’s what I did.

I deleted the Market Updater apk. file from the zip file and then uploaded the new zip file to my phone.

I did a nand and ext backup (don’t know why I did this, but I did), and then flashed the new zip file.

But installation aborted as missing the videorecord.ogg file (which I deleted before as it was annoying when using camera).

How do I get around this problem? When I deleted the camerarecord.ogg file I didn’t have a problem.

Have I missed something out or done something wrong?

Sounds like you have signature verification turned on in recovery. The signature is based on the contents, so whenever something is removed, the signature does not match. Turning of signature verification circumvents this potection.
 
Just a quick update, I said I was rusty and this proves my point!

I forgot to disable the signature verify option before flashing the ROM.

I will let you know if I have any more problems with the Market.

I know I could have started a new thread about this but there are so many of them out there, and many of them are not answered.

Hi, I have just come across a ROM called MIUI, I know all ROM's are each to their own but does anyone know if this is a good ROM? I wasn't sure if I can get it for my Desire but thought I would find out if it's any good first, I am on Redux at the moment.

Removing stock apps won't give you more space, and if you just want to stop one running you can "freeze" it using Titanium Backup.

If you want to remove them, are you S-Off or S-On? If S-Off (e.g. rooted using revolutionary) then you can just remove them. If S-On you can do it using adb, see this guide. Always take a nandroid backup first, in case you remove something that was more important than you thought! ;)

If you are using a custom ROM then you can just remove the apps you don't want from the zip file before flashing (using e.g. WinZip on Windows, BetterZip on Mac, or Astro on Android).
