if you ask me let the manufacturers keep their stamp on things, just make sure the bootloaders are unlocked, then your blur droid is now vanilla. unless im looking into this the wrong way.
not really...having an unlocked bootloader does not make it Vanilla...it would allow you to run Vanilla Android...but it would still be Blur
google needs the make their profit so i think they should keep current deals but start there own service. verizon piggy backed for a bit if im not mistaken, but im not 100% sure, if google piggy backs on verizon or sprint or t-mobile or just buys t-mobile and sprint, it would be alot better, there is some articles on the net, just got done reading one, and its very informative. it explains why it would be a bad move right now, but they do see google being a phone carrier in the not too distant future.
no way Google buys out one of the providers...you're forgetting all the other manufacturers that are making phones and stuff..
i believe google would of course have to make sacrafices, i just believe if its android it should be offered as a google phone with google service, the atrix, the dx/bionic, evo, desire, etc, etc, it should all be offered onto the google service. would it screw other companies? yes, plan price depending of course!
you might not realize what you're saying here but....
you realize that what you're saying with your "its android, so Google should sell it" approach is EXACTLY what Apple does with ALL of their products...
your approach is akin to saying, well...Windows is installed on the VAST majority of computers sold in the world...and since MS makes Windows, they should sell all the computers, thus cutting out all competition from the market....
1 vanilla gives users the basics and allows them to add or delete what they want.
to an extent...but your ignoring the business deals that i mentioned...things like NFL mobile are locked for a reason...
2. My idea is not like sense or blur, you can't get rid of those other than rooting and installing roms. If a user is given an option (without voiding their warranty) then its nothing like what the manufactures are doing now.
actually it is EXACTLY like Sense or Blur you're just creating a fictional UI that is not locked down and can be removed...HTC or Moto could easily accomplish this and allow it on their phones right now..
the problem with your idea is that you CANT have warranties if you're going to approach it that way...you cant expect to hold Motorola, or HTC responsible for you tinkering with your phone by removing/adding/modding apps and such...
its either got to be Vanilla or not, you cant have a middle ground here because both parties (the consumer, and manufacturer) need to be protected by warranties and such...
- if your phone breaks or malfunctions...you need to be protected so your device can be fixed or replaced...
- if you mess with your phone and start changing things that it came with the device...the manufacturer needs to be protected so that they can't be held responsible for you doing something with the phone that it was not intended to do...
Most people I know with phone that come with vanilla don't have lpp or adw, but most X users I know do, it seems to me they are more popular with people who don't have vanilla Android.
No offense, but I'm gonna call BS...
- first of all i would ask how many of them are running custom ROMS, which totally negates whether they had Vanilla originally or not...
- Vanilla offers nothing more in the vein of customization than Blur or Sense does...you would still need an app like LP to achieve the level of customization...
3. This is not the only reason we can't remove apps, we can't remove any blur apps and they aren't getting any deals for that stuff.
you're still missing complete ideas and approaching the idea from the wrong angle...
- Moto has designed Blur to function as a whole, and they don't allow those components to be removed/replaced because they are protecting their IP and device, once you change those things Motorola can no longer support your phone because they are no longer their apps...if you removed the Blur camera and installed the vanilla android camera and something goes wrong...should Motorola be responsible for giving you tech support? or fixing the phone?...no of course not...
it is the reason the iPhone is such a solid, well oiled, well performing device...because Apple controls everything...
If Google were to jump in I don't think they would have a problem with manufactures adding stuff like blur, only that they were restricting users to what they want you to have. As long as it was open I think Google wouldn't care, that's what they are about.
there are many reasons for them to restrict what is offered...
what essentially you're asking for is Vanilla Android with a "toolbox" that allows you to install/remove whatever it is you want, WITHOUT rooting, and WITHOUT voiding your warranty...
and i just don't think what you're looking for is possible...
