Root A Tech Idiot Trying to Root for the First Time

i feel your frustration. for me with revolutionary it took me over 10 times to try revolutionary. it for some reason would not recognize my beta key.

It took me more than 10. I had beta key issues as well. I even did a copy/paste but couldn't get it to work. And then, all of a sudden, it worked.

Could a blank space possibly be part of the key? I wonder if when you copy/paste, there could be a blank at the end that many don't copy.

See, I never had one issue with the beta key. I wrote it down, typed it in and the key was always accepted. I ran into the "Zerging root............." and then nothing happened but finally after numerous tries, root was found:D:D

Superuser isnt showing up in revolutionary on my evo!!!! It keeps saying no files found!!!! Now what the **** do i do guys??????????????? Help!!!!!!

I understand your urgency Violent but there's no need to start a new thread. Someone will be able to assist you sooner than later.

You should have a recovery since you used revolutionary. Did you flash amon ra or are you still on clockworkmod recovery? At any rate, the process is about the same.

Make sure you put the superuser zip file on your sd card somewhere. Now turn off your phone. Wait a few seconds. Hold volume-down and then press the power button at the same time until the white screen appears. Toggle down to recovery and press power. Now you're in recovery. You are able to flash a zip file in recovery, so select that option and then scroll to where you saved your superuser zip on your sd card and flash it. Now back out to the main menu and reboot. You're done.

I posted in the other thread you made, but here goes, a little more detailed.

Since you ran revolutionary and it gave you S-OFF, you're now done with revolutionary. When you ran it, it installed a custom recovery. Recovery is used to flash updates to your phone. So you need to make sure that you downloaded the superuser zip file and put it on your phone's SD card. Now power down your phone. Wait a few seconds and press the volume down button and then at the same time press the power button and hold it until the white screen appears. Select recovery.

There should be an option in recovery to flash a zip from your sd card. Scroll through the menu until you find the superuser zip file and flash it. If you have a lot of stuff on your sd card, just keep scrolling down your list until it goes to the 2nd page and you'll find it. If you put it in a folder of some kind, just scroll to that folder. Anyway, once you flash the zip file, you can back out to the main menu in recovery and select "reboot". you're done.
