A Thread only for the Inked.

OK I want to do a thread where the guys and gals who have ink and still get ink to chat discuss Ideas and just make new friends to become like family. I would like a full forum but until the BOSS (Phases) See's fit to give us one we'll just have to use threads like this.

Ok to start with What Kind of tips/appreciation gifts do you give your artist?

I usually pay a cash tip and give him a card of thanks. I'm not made of money so would like to put most of the cash I have into the ink. I'm not very creative but have seen people gives stuff like mirrors they etched and one Guy is a wood worker made his artist an arm bench.

I think it's a great idea to tip one's artist... Especially if you have art that takes a few hours or multiple sittings. It takes a lot of conversation to do a lot of ink and you end up with a bit of a relationship by the time it's done. It's nice to show that you more than appreciate the hard work and special care.

The last major ink I got we closed up the shop. Everyone was gone and he locked the doors and we had a few beers. Just relaxing and enjoying one another's company. You can't be light with the monetary thanks with a deal like that. :)

All of mine were done by 3 of my closest friends. We've been family since we were kids, so the sittings were a bit of a barn raising. They always involved some good food, good drink and great music.;)

The bond between you and your artist is forged in pain and blood, so it's a good idea to give something special back. ;)

My best friend lives in colorado, and since he's my primary artist, I haven't had any work done in a while. I still have room on my back, so I'm not done yet. :D

I have several tattoos and I can't wait to get my next one. My next one is going to combine an eagle head, American flag, and a couple guns (probably an AR15, 1911, and shotgun). I'm thinking about working with my artist before hand and getting inked at the Seattle Tattoo Expo in August.

Thinking after my pink floyd sleeve i'm going to get an owl on my leg. What do you think and what is your next one that you want.

I haven't seen this thread...

My artist is a good friend of mine. I tip him well. Usually 40% because he gives me a killer deal and because he makes the time such an awesome experience. I love the whole process with him.

I'm still thinking about my next one/s. I think I want to leave the arm I already started with the Polynesian theme. There has never been a look that has called me more.

My other arm may be more of a portrait of my life. I'm not sure yet. I think the next couple I get will be for each of my children. I want them to pick out ideas that signify who they are and make something of it... It may take a couple years to come up with something, but having them be a part of the process is important to me. They love the ink I have now...

My next one will be a tribute to my little sister. We lost her to drugs almost 10 years ago. I'll probably combine a weeping willow with some woodland feries and some mushrooms. She loved feries, and her favorite trees were weeping willows. Since her name was Theresa, I think it's fitting her tribute is a tree. :)

sounds awesome. My favorite tree is the weeping willow. That will make an awesome tatt. you must give us pictures of it

Each of my tattoos are by different artists, I have only returned to one shop twice and the artist I wanted was no longer there but I went ahead and got a second there. While I was getting inked the owner came in and bad mouthed the artist I wanted. I told her if I hadn't already paid for the current tattoo I would have walked out right there.

I have 5 currently and want two sleeves with back piece. If I ever get into shape I want to tie it all in on my chest too.

Growing up in the 80s I have always loved Nikki Sixx and Tommy Lee's art.

My first tattoo was done in a singe wide on the wrong side of the tracks. I tipped with some vodka and green that wasn't money (I paid $11 for the tattoo and $6 of that was rolled pennies). All others I've tried to tip pretty well.

I have but one I bought myself 13 years ago, and tipped profusely at the time.
It could use a little touch up, but if I had the money I would get a couple new ones. I have wanted more for years, but have had a real hard time finding the right combination of time, money, inspiration, and talent all together at the same time.
Now i'm getting older and the canvas is getting bigger.
Thanks for making this thread. Maybe I'll get inspired and motivated to spend money I don't have by someone here :)

Pics (or it didn't happen :p)

I have something very much like this on my back.

I used this template in reverse, Tiger is on top with the letters going down. Left hip and leg.

I'm trying to find my favorite artist, he is no longer at the studio he did my work at and they say they don't know where he is (which I don't believe since it is a very tight knit group and they all seem to know or know of each other). My dragon took two sittings 3+ hours each, he was tortured extremely generously!

I agree look around and ask around at other shops. The community usually know where who is working where.
