Root a2sd Problem?? Insufficient Space Error with 1.5 GB Partition??

when you reinstall ChompsSMS with Titanium I'm assuming your doing data as well? I have had that same exact error with the streets program. Was planning on trying to delete app and do a reinstall with out the data. And see if that fixes my "Package not Signed Correctly" error message.

Did you ever try to delete and reinstall your app?? Any luck with the error message??

And by the way, my ChompSMS gave me NO PROBLEMS once I deleted it as well!! :D

I hear ya and really dont mention it. I have learned alot trying to help you :D

Yeah wish I could convince the boss that it would be cheaper for him to just send me a paycheck every two weeks instead of me having to come in a work for it. :p

Tried a couple/noticed a couple things on my own as I try to figure out what to do....

The Market prompted me for an update to my Titanium Backup. Attempted to do so and got a new error (new?? yipee!! How exciting!!): "Package File Invalid" or something like that. Tried a second time and got the familiar "insufficient space on device error." WHEW!!...I thought I lost that error message but SO HAPPY I got that error message back. Not :(

I then found an app that I didn't notice before giving me the "insufficient space" error: Zillow. So, not caring if I couldn't get the app back, I decided to uninstall it after I got the error message and reinstall through the Market. NO LUCK...back at the Market I still got the insufficient space error after the uninstall. And now, when I try to restore the app from the Titanium Backup that I have, Titanium hangs trying to reinstall.

AWESOME.

I'm now in the process of wiping cache and dalvik to see if I can reboot and get zillow back. Now I'm REALLY having some fun...:D

I've been lurking around this thread (and topic for a while). I'm no expert but I was having the same frustration as you. So I figure I would chime in just in case.

I tried everything and was getting the insufficient space. Tried the old market, same issue. I even tried to do a complete SD overhaul, wipe, reflash of MikG ROm, etc. But still had issues with two apps (Super Stickman Golf & Baltimore Ravens Mobile App).

What I finally found worked for me (about 10 minutes ago) was moving the Dalviche-Cache to the SD card. I did this by running the 'a2sd cachesd' command.

Whammo. It actually worked for me. For the first time after trying 20 different things I was finally able to download both those apps. I've gotten to times where I would get them to download but then the notice "Invalid package" would show up. Not this time.

Don't know if this applies to you or if this is a long term fix, but I figured I'd share.

Well, this certainly looks promising!! I was about to yell at ya for lurking until I read that you juuuuust a few minutes ago had success and posted!! ;)

Anyway, I'm excited to go try the command but before I did so, I wanted to ask you (or anyone else) if there is a way to FIRST check where my dalvik cache is?? I kinda sorta assumed that it was ALREADY on the sd card but I could be (and probably am) wrong.

I have done NOTHING to tweak or otherwise change settings with my a2sd functionality other than run a2sd reinstall/install commands a couple times....just simply partitioned my card, flashed MikG ROM and let a2sd do what it needed to do.

BTW, here the latest result of my attempt to update my queue of Market apps:

xbf7h.jpg

:eek::eek::eek:

That's three different results there....insufficient space, package file invalid and a couple that installed without a problem!! Pretty impressive, huh??!!:D

Did you have the occasional successful install/update as well as the "package file invalid" error prior to moving the dalvik cache??

Was also wondering what led you/how you thought to try to move the cache to SD??

THANKS!!

Dalvic is not automatically moved So yours will most likely be in default of data/dalvic cache

I was juuuust going to edit my above post to indicate what you just mentioned. I looked at my a2sd check results posted above in screenshots and the Dalvik Cache info says:

Bound to /data/dalvik-cache

That seems to suggest, as you stated, that my dalvik cahce is currently on my phone.

I'm doing a nandroid and then going to try the "a2sd cachesd" command...I can always revert back to the backup and also move the cache back to the device with the "a2sd nocache" command.

Will report back...thanks to you two...

I was getting those type of results before I did a complete overhaul (wiped data, reformatted SD card, reflashed ROM, etc). Some updates would download, some would be invalid packages, most were insufficient size. Then I did the overhaul and only had the issues with 2 or 3 apps (I'm sure more were to come). And they were mostly of the insufficient space variety.

And as you noted. I saw on your a2sd check output that your Dalviche Cache was linked to the internal memory. Its worth a try to see if it works for you. I haven't had any issues going on a couple hours now. Was able to use both apps, my phone didn't show any type of other issues either.

Don't really know how I ended up trying that. I think I read it in another thread out there in the google universe. I didn't think too much about it until I was going through the Dark Tremor command prompts on Facebook. Thought I'd give it a try. Just trying all avenues.

Welllllll....HAPPY to report that I tried moved the dalvik cache to the card per your suggestions and I'm back up and running!!! :D:D Worked great...very easy...much appreciated!!

For anyone reading this thread I would like to note the following which was my experience and might be different for your own phone:

1. IN PREPARATION for running the "a2sd cachesd" command and in an abundance of caution I: (a) did a nandroid backup, (b) wiped cache; (c) wiped dalvik; (d) wiped data for the Market app.

2. I ran the "a2sd cachesd" command in the Terminal app and it seemed like the terminal app was HANGING. Perhaps because of all the crap (apps) I have on my phone, it took a SOLID FEW MINUTES for the terminal app to do what it needed to to. Just let it do its thing and, if I remember correctly, the phone automatically reboots and you also might see a few "force closes" of applications, which is normal.

3. When the phone rebooted...and this is MY experience with MY phone and MikG v2.56 ROM....the phone REALLY HUNG at the ROM "splash" screen. I actually PULLED THE BATTERY twice after about 5+ minutes of being "stuck" on the splash screen. When I put the battery back in the THIRD time, I just let the phone sit....probably took 5-7 minutes again....but it DID boot up and I had NO PROBLEMS!!! I might have been successful with the phone booting up the first time, however, 5-7 minutes was EXCESSIVELY LONG for me to see that MikG ROM splash screen.

So, I'm back to where I was without this "insufficient space" errors...I hope it stays this way!! :D:D

THANKS AGAIN!! :D

Well with moving Dalvic i guess it would take a few minutes to boot. I am glad you have it working and thanks to PuRock for the suggestion. I will definitely keep that in mind for a2sd issues.

I was waiting to see your outcome. Good news. Now I am glad that I stopped lurking and was able to solve an issue. Now its back to lurking.
