What did you do to get it working?

never mind, I just ignored the invalid image warning and hit start. it worked.

Hats off to you, seriously.. i mean i knew there was carrieriq (which allows you to monitor every keypress, application launch etc..) installed on the prevail, but this.. well this even threw off some of teh top epic devs

inside teh kernel is a file called init.rc, its what tells what to launch on startup

and here is a copy of it (if you dont believe me pull the file right off your phone, even the people who are rooted stock can prove im right)
on emmc mkdir /system mkdir /data 0771 system system mkdir /p - Pastebin.com

now i dont expect everyone to read thru it, so i will highlight the point of interest

for anyone who doesnt know who/what they are...

what does this all mean? you guys have a remote access backdoor enabled on your phone every boot. a process which is constantly running draining your battery, not too much unlike ciq.

now tell me, how many of you feel safe knowing boost can remote access your phone at any moment?

Boost has this on all their phones, even their dumb phones. It is why the battery dies so fast. Had a Motorola Clutch and could barely get it to last one day. That's one of the reasons I left Boost.

It worked perfect with the new posted download. Hopefully it will help out with saving the battery a little bit more. Thankyou Shabby.

found it on sprints replenish as well :/

1. Download and unzip the file.
2. Install the Samsung USB drivers (unless you have them already)
3. Put phone in Download Mode by holding Vol down, Camera Button, and Power button until the Yellow Downloading message appears
4. Plug phone into USB port
4. Open Odin, you should see a yellow box with a com number
5 Select SPHM820.ops file and the kernel.tar in the appropriate Boxes (kernel goes in pda)
6 Click Start

instructions kang'd from hroak

I went through the steps and everything went fine, but I'm wondering what the kernel version number should be on the phone after this. I have 2.6.32.9 I was expecting something like ShabbyKernel-x. :)

i did it too. and on the odin windows i got the following;
(the last 4 messages)
<1> close serial port and wait until rebooting (after 5:07 min)
<1> PASS!!!
<0>destroy instant
<0>killed timer
is this means is ok.?

Yeah, what he said. What was that thing doing for 5:07? I gotta tell you, this one scared me more than any of the other updates you guys have put out.

What can I do to test to this out? It should save some battery? Will it be a good prerequisite for stuff to come?

Thanks guys and thank you Odin (Thor's Daddy).

Oh, and thanks for the heads up on ignoring the invalid image file message. That would have stopped me. For some reason it automatically reinstalled the USB drivers (Win7) when I put the phone in download mode.

I did notice one thing that was strange after doing the ODIN update. I have an order entry app that was written custom for the company that I work for nationwide. Anyway, it got somehow strangely corrupted and I do not think it was a coincidence. I had an shortcut on my main screen and I noticed that the logo icon had changed back to the default and if I tapped it said that the app was not installed. It was listed in the applications list but not the same way as usual.

Anyway, I uninstalled whatever was left and reinstalled it from the APK. It is working again.

I have not noticed this with any other apps yet. I do not know who they got to write our order entry app but maybe they used some non standard techniques that somehow got corrupted by this process? It does run from the SD Card.

When you install this, do you have to wipe everything off the phone, and reload everything? Can we over clock with this?
