Root Activating a rooted HTC EVO

I just bought a rooted HTC EVO off e bay and I cant get it activated. I called sprint and they told me to bring it to the sprint store and they will see if they can download the old OS. Right now the phone has cyanogen mod7. I would like to keep this because I want to tether. but when I went to activate the phone I am unable to change the phone number the sprint rep said for me to press ##*****# and nothing happened. Can anyone help? Thank you

read the unrooting part of this link. http://androidforums.com/evo-4g-all-things-root/194918-rooting-dummies.html after you unroot it and have it activated..dont download the 2.3.3 update that sprint is pushing out..then read the rooting part of that link..to root your phone again.. here is a link that explains how to unroot in full.. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=780141

+1 to ed2000. definitely unroot using the dummies guide. and like he said do not have them accept the ota. you will not be able to re-root your phone if they do.

Why not just flash Sprint Lover's or a rom with a working EPST to get it activated? You would be able to call Sprint then to activate it then you can nandroid back to CM7 or flash another rom if you want.

Most people that buy rooted phones do it because they don't have the ability to root one themselves and flash a custom rom. A little reading and learning time is in order...

I'm pretty sure any sense rom will work to get it activated. I'd nandroid the cm7 and flash a sense rom to activate it, then just nandroid back to cm7 if it were me.

Flash to a stock Sense rom like xtreme suggested, no need to unroot

Wow thank you everyone for your help. I didn't expect so many people to respond and so quick! I ended up going to a guy and he did it for me apparently the person i got it from didn't save the old ROM. so it made it harder to do but he got the old ROM from somewhere. Now hooked up and un-rooted. Just one more question when I'm tethering on 4g I'm getting about 5.13 Mbps. Is that good or bad? it doesn't seem as fast as others are saying they get. Thanks again to everyone that helped

ON my wireless tether app it says 0.4 kbps
but on speed test app it says 5.13 Mbps
