Root adb root issue

Hi there,

I am trying to backup my device using adb. So i got a set of files that i need to root the device.

The problem i am having is that i keep getting the following message:
adb: unable to connect for backup.

so i then checked whether my device is actually connected which it is so i then ran the command adb devices and i get a device listed but with the value of offline

I then ran a command to check the version of the adb and the version is 1.0.29.

By the way, i do have usb debugging enabled and PTP enabled because i read PTP works so thats why i have it enabled with PTP.

Could anyone advise what i should do?

Thanks in advance,

Again i would like to says thanks, by updating the platform-tools i was able to backup the apps that were on my phone.

I too would like to say thanks, I was having the same issue, with my t-mobile S2 and the new, just got today nexus 4 I was not finding anything on it till I ran across this thread.
oh and it works with mtp not just ptp.

Indeed you are correct. I successfully rooted my device and it was connected using MTP. I thought I would give that a try, so thanks for that.
