ADB Workshop!

adrynalyne

Android Expert
How many would be interested in an adb tutorial/ workshop via IRC? I would cover what adb is, how to install it and set it up properly, as well as some examples on how to use it. I would start with Windows only.

Depending on the interest is whether it will happen.

Edit: Looks like there is a decent enough interest in this. I am tentatively planning this for Saturday, at 4pm MST, aka 6pm EST.

Channel will be #android-learning on Freenode.

I will post the channel I will be setting up before tomorrow evening.

If you have trouble with IRC, please take the time to learn now.

A Total Newbie's Guide to Using IRC (Internet Relay Chat) - Multiplay Gameservers

Also, please download, and read this PRIOR to the workshop. There are some steps you need to have performed prior to the beginning of the workshop.

Also, in the interest of time, and not wasting it for anyone, I will not be repeating parts of the workshop for those who arrive late. There will be a small Q and A section afterward.

I'd ask that some folks could log this workshop so that those who do come in late can fill in the blanks later.

Rules

Ok folks, this is how tonight will proceed. I will leave the channel muted until 6pm. I will then make a general introduction and repeat these rules. From there, the channel will be unmuted and we will continue. PMs will be ignored unless its a matter of great importance.

1. No arguing, bickering, or disrespecting anyone. First time violators will be warned, second time violators will be banned from the channel, and will not be allowed to attend any future workshops in the channel.
2. Respect folks with their questions. I will answer them in the order they are asked. If a question is asked that has already been answered, it will be ignored.
3. Thats it! I hope I can provide a useful skill to those who need it.

Captainkrtek was kind enough to log the 1.5 hour session.

I would be interested in diving deeper into the shell; going beyond my typical push and pull commands. :D

I would definitely enjoy this as I'm sure there's a lot more I can always learn......I'd encourage all the new root members as well as there seems to be a lot of "what is adb questions in pms and irc" all the time

Is there a way you can log the conversation and post it up for people to read through that can't make it? Or maybe hold another session at some point? My wife and I are bringing our son to see Toy Story on Ice on Saturday so I won't be available.

This is an awesome idea though!

As a newbie and a Mac user interested in learning to root properly, I'm very interested in this. How confusing will it be for Mac user vs. Windows?

Pretty different. The problem is I only have a ppc based mac, and Im not sure thats going to be of help to anyone to go through adb on it, if I even can.

ill log the chat and post it for those that miss :)

I will try to pop in and see if I can contribute anything. What channel is it going to be adryn?

Two pdf files have been posted to the channel topic in #android-learning.

These are whats on the agenda for Saturday evening, if you wish to get a peek.

It would be really cool if you could copy chat after its all done and link it. I'm very interested but have family christmas tomorrow.

I'd love to attend myself as its always nice to learn from the best, but I'll be watching
tron-light-cycle.jpg

with my son instead ;)
I do hope this workshop is well attended and everyone learns a lot

First post updated with important information.
Yeah so 3pm PST thats too bad for me, the only showing of Tron in 3D today is 330pmPST and in this podunk town I gotta go today or not till Dec 26th since my ex-wife has the kids this next week and 3d screenings are few and far between

np saps. Im going to try and log it.
Cool I think nitsuj17 said the same. I gotta admit humbly I know a thing or two about a thing or two. But then I see the knowledge base of peeps like you and anyone else building kernels and roms and realize there is a chasm. Its kinda like being class valedictorian at walla walla high school and then going to harvard and being in the bottom quarter of the class.

Anyway, the buzz is growing for sure I think you'll have dozens attend at least, what a truly noble undertaking adryn, much respect :)

What's the recommended mobile irc client? I want to join in while passing time at a Christmas party.... I see AndChat is rated well.

AndChat is as good as anything out there. Its the one I used when I rarely did mobile irc.
