ADW Launcher

Looks like we're going to have to wait till everyone wakes up to get an answer. If I find anything out there I'll let you know.

LMAO
I am also having trouble with Manups DROtheme
Pretty cool, since darkedge isn't working on V1 yet, I wanna try it...not working though.
Time to restore, double check the alarm clock, and go to bed already.

Eclair beta 7 is not installing for me.
Tried moving files to root, original name and rename to update.zip and installing via ROM Manager, and manually via clockwork - no dice
Did the exact same only transferring via PC - no go

What gives?

I had the same issue before.....All you have to do is download "Home Switcher" from the market and switch back to "Home" as default....Took me 2 hours and backing my phone up to figure out this easy step lol

Ha....I was editing mine when you posted. Yeah it's not working for me either. Not sure what's goin on.

Download the "Home Switcher" app from the market and switch to "Home" as your default. I went through so much last night trying to get it to work, and all I had to do was this. SUX lol, but I'm loving this yo!!!

Yeah...that will do it but if you don't want to download Home Switcher (I have never even tried it) you can just clear your current the default setting for your current launcher and then when you press the home key...select "Home". You wont find a app for ADW in the drawer and when you install it, it doesn't clear your defaults the way that Helix does. That is why so many people are having issues installing cause it doesn't clear your current defaults the way most others do...so when you install, it looks as though it failed...pressing home doesn't launch the available home screen replacements.

Now if you are getting an error in SPRecovery...that's different. I didn't try it with SPRecovery but it worked fine in Clockwork for me. Just flash Clockwork, place the zip file on the root of your SD card (no need to rename it) and then "install .zip from SD card". Reboot, clear defaults, and be off and running. ;)

Yeah I did use Clockwork to install mines. I don't know if others had this issue, but I couldn't find "Home" or "Helix" in the applications list, being that "Helix" was applied to my system/apps/ folder. So as an alternative, I had to download "Home Switcher," something I'd never used before either and it worked lol.

After using it a few hours, knowing this is still BETA, this is what I've come up with

-The animation when i click on the drawer to come up needs work
-The Galaxy S drawer set up is to sensitive, it jumps two pages when I sometimes want to move just one
-It would be nice to be able to dock four icons, although having two is no biggy for me

Other than that, this thing absolutely FLIES!!! Live Wallpapers work PERFECT, switching orientations is also crazy, because this thing orients it really really nicely. No force close yet....This thing is excellent. Definitely a keeper. I can't wait until the final version comes out....

I can't seem to get in installed either. I've tried installing the zip through both SP and CM recovery. I've tried manually dropping the apk in /system/apps, setting permissions, and rebooting. All I ever see in Home Switcher is my helix launcher. It's the only entry. Not sure what's going wrong. Maybe I'll try again tonight after work, starting with a fresh rom install.

Did it install successfully?

Did you make Helix the default?

You need to go into settings, manage applications, filter, all, find helix launcher, and 'reset defaults'

Then, when you click the home button, it will prompt you with which launcher you want to use.

Fab...Maybe you can help me out. After playing with this launcher I'm really enjoying it and I'd like to stick with it for a while. I'm running your ROM which came pre-loaded with Helix 1 and then loaded the themed Helix 2 that you had available. I'd like to remove Helix 2 to free up space to make ADW work faster. How do I do that? There is no "uninstall" option when I bring up the manage apps/filter all screen. I'd rather not try to run Helix 1 & 2 along with ADW as it seems to slow my phone down. Any suggestions?

Well, I was tired last night and thought so. I just tried it again with CM, installed with no errors, but it still didn't show up in home switcher. So tried again with SP, and it gets to installing update and then aborts. Maybe my download got corrupted. I'll download a new copy later and try again.

When you are using home switcher does it have an options that says Home?

I had this same issue when I first tried yesterday. When using Home Switcher, are you choosing "HOME" as your option? This launcher overwrites the stock HOME and isn't listed as ADW at all.

No Home. The only option is Helix.

That's weird. If it installed successfully that means it's there. It's just a matter of switching to it. One thing I ended up doing though within Clockwork, I ended up renaming it to update.zip, and installed it. Then I downloaded Home Switcher and it came up. It's there if it installed successfully, it's just a matter of getting to it somehow....

I think it is phone specific in this case. After I read your first post talking about this I tested the "finger flicking speed" and I soon thought I had a problem with it responding...but I was just already across all 5 pages in a quickness. My finger can barely keep up with the screen lol. I don't know what to tell you other than to try it on a new rom (or even load up an old Nandroid and give it a whirl).

Well I did an uninstall and reinstall, and things appear to be OK now w/the home screen scrolling...I must have had a couple of bytes crossed up in the initial install for some reason.

CyanogenMod comes w/a Launcher.apk in /system, which I renamed before this second install, I'm thinking that maybe there was some issue related to that and the ADW launcher install.

i am loving this. been using it since yesterday and so far it has been great. i prefer the standard portrait scroll on the app tray so i am glad they allow for that in the settings.

This is the best home i've used while using a live wallpaper! Its still still very smooth!

It is better than the other ones I've tried but LWP still seem to slow it down for me. I don't like LWP's so I never have them running other than to test a ROM's speed or in this case, the Launcher's speed. If you like the LWP...this is a step up from what your used to though.

Yeah, maybe it didn't write over the Launcher.apk completely or something. Glad to see it's working better for you.

+1

I am definitely a fan of the vertical app scrolling. I just couldn't get used to the horizontal "pages" of apps...too much like the iPhone for my taste lol :)

Yea I tried everything everyone has mentioned from trying to use clockwork to trying home switcher to clearing defaults. It's definitely a corrupt download. Is there a chance anyone can post up their .zip from their phone????......Maybe the latest file became corrupt???

I retract my statement regarding LWPs, it did slow down on me, just took a little bit. Although, it is till better than any other home I've tried, but not good enough. Definitely liking the replacement.

Also, I tried a few of the metamorphs in the link I posted on page 1, even thought they say they are for .6 (we are using .7) they do work.

Ok so I finally figured it out. I extracted the .zip with winrar and just put the launcher.apk on my sdcard and installed it through root explorer. All is good now.

Is there a secret for deleting the action buttons? I'd like to change the one's I originally selected but holding them down does not seem to ask me to delete. It works for the hidden tray but not the regular ones.
thanks!
