Haha... I mentioned you to PG to see if that would entice him to join us, but of course that did not work. He's not having it... Doesn't like phones with locked bootloaders.I used to work closely with PG on a lot of things. He's a good guy, and kept up with development long after I left.
Not sure about what he's saying about root, however. Rooting is a phone-by-phone type of deal. There is no be-all way of obtaining root. Some phones just have an easier time with it.
TBH, all of what I did never dealt with root. It was everything that followed after root was achieved (custom recoveries, ROMs, etc.). Trying to re-write the fake backup app was my first stab at obtaining root. I haven't given up trying to find an exploit, but I have given up on using the Motion root method.
I'm hoping I can find root, or somebody better at it can! I really want to start working on Android 4.1 for this phone (it would run like a dream), but we're all just sitting pretty until we can get root.![]()
I know this phone is a pain in the arse.Haha... I mentioned you to PG to see if that would entice him to join us, but of course that did not work. He's not having it... Doesn't like phones with locked bootloaders.
And don't worry I do not doubt you for one second.I know this phone is a pain in the arse.
No, but I did make some progress last night...
...Code:.annotation system Ldalvik/annotation/InnerClass; accessFlags = 0x19 name = "permission" .end annotation
Now, if I can write a new class into our homemade app that follows the same process that allows the Backup app to use that permission, we should be able to exploit the service and gain temp root! I just have to figure out how exactly this "check" in the Java code hooks into the original Backup app.

Well, I found download mode on our phones
...
Hold down vol + and vol - and connect the USB cable. The screen will go black and then display download mode. To get out of it, just hold down the power key to power off the device.

Well, I found download mode on our phones, but it doesn't seem to have shell access. If you're curious you guys can see if for yourself:

Wonder what happened to that Travis Antonio dev that created the unbrick for the Attain. I bet him and Isaac can get root working together..
One last thing before you give up:
Try installing the motion backup app, then try rooting.
Wait, that won't install will it?
I chatted with the root guru we chatted about last night. Get with him and he said he just needed you to pull some files for him to check out.I used to work closely with PG on a lot of things. He's a good guy, and kept up with development long after I left.

I would just like to say. This phone is GREAT but I also was rocking an old indulge that was on basix (bad and deserted ROM). I would like to say I GREATLY appreciate the work you guys are doing. If I had money, I would totally donate. Sounds like you guys are coming along. I cant wait for root strictly for font reasons. Im skipping the custom ROM this time tho. Again, thanks so much guys.
oh no shabby going to bite someone else head off lol joking
lol im not a fan of someone talking crap about a rom that they obviously used for a good while. if it was so bad then why not make one themselves? do it better, show k0nane how its done. im sure many people would agree k0nane is one of the reasons why the indulge didnt suck as much as it could have. a custom kernel and a custom rom, plus it was him that brought root...

Once you all have root the next fun step will be getting a bootstrap/2ndinit recovery built for it. After that it shouldnt be too much diff from what you're use too.
Sadly I know nadda about bootstrap and 2ndinit.
Guys we can copy system files from the phone with Astro just attempted and it works but what do we really need pulled?
I don't think astro will let you do that, you'd have a better shot with root explorer, but I could be wrong..
