Root [ALL] SuperUser/Root Issues SOLVED!

All,

After further editing and testing DO NOT EVER FORMAT your system partition. I used to think this was an OK thing to do in CWM, however after formatting this partition to install the Gingerbread ROM it will remove root from your phone. I have since had to go back and install b_randon's Froyo ROM and root the phone again with gingerbreak.

Some of you may have seen issues with the SuperUser app asking for access over and over and over again each time you do something. I have since solved this problem by again reloading b_randon's Froyo ROM and then installing gingerbreak and flashing with CM9. This should solve a lot of problems for a lot of users.

Same here I never had that issue

It's very possible this may not be an issue for some people however I had the problem, so maybe we should just use this as a fix for users having the same problem I did. Now mind you last time I rooted my phone I used this process

Method 2: Terminal Emulator (taken from b_randon14's post here).

Step 1: Download Android Terminal Emulator from the market here.
Step 2: Open up the Emulator and type in sudo, you should get the # symbol.
Step 3: Type in the following code:
Code:
ln -s /system/xbin/sudo /system/bin/su ln -s /system/xbin/sudo /system/xbin/su

After wiping the system partition I had the problems arise. This does work to root the phone mind you. However if you format the system partition you are in fact deleting the symlinks for root. This could very well be my problem I had. Now that I have gingerbreak installed I am not sure what it does but I will stay away from wiping system unless something major happens.

That's how I did mine too, right after I got it.
Never had that problem, though??

When you say format system partition, is that the same as factory reset, or whatever it says in CWM?

It's by going to

mounts and storage < format /system

As stated in my other post, this could just be all me

Sounds good, because I format more than anyone on the forums (trust me) it could just be me having these issues :stupido2:. Since I am doing about 5-10 builds a week and sometimes more my phone gets a lot of wipes. However now that I have finally solved all the 3G issues I will now be using my dev phone to do all my work! Kind of excited since I won't be reloading my daily all the time LOL!

I have always reformatted system in cm7 but not with cm9, cm9 always gave the boot loop if done.
