All Things Froyo

Damn, I was just about to root too :(

Whatever, I'll believe it when I see it.

I'll wait and see the reviews from people here. I'm on Paragon RC6, can't see this late update being much better.

Relatively new captivate owner here, has Samsung / AT&T ever done this before? I mean announce officially (I think it's official) and with a hard date as well only to pull it back? Or is this really the first time they really said something concrete about the Froyo update?

they said it would be out before the end of last year, but never gave a date and it obviously wasnt. this seems pretty official

Get your kies mini updates installed and ready to go ladies and gentlemen.

And I've managed to get XP installed on my old PIII so hopefully I can actually use Kies mini :P

I still can't believe it kies mini doesn't work right on windows 7 64-bit

*Crosses fingers and waits*

Also, they gave themselves 24 hours. I see no reason why they wouldn't promise something within 24 hours if it wasn't ready to go in the first place. When you are still months away things can happen, though granted it would have been nice if we were told "Hey guys, we ran into some trouble, the Froyo update may be a month or two late"

If they were totally honest about it I wouldn't care, but it's the lack of communication up till now that has brought me to the edge of my patience. And if the update didn't arrive by the end of Feb, I was probably going to bite the bullet and install a ROM, even though I know as soon as I did that something would happen to my phone and I would need warranty service or something :P

Two questions for those that might know:
1 - Will this be an OTA update, or do we need to use Kies?
2 - Will this erase all of our apps, mp3's, profuiles settings, etc? Do we need to update everything beforehand?

Thanks in advance!

Like I said, I won't believe this until I see at least 5 people on here say they installed the official thing on their phones.

I'll be one. I'm still looking for an excuse to get the HTC Inspire. If my phone is bricked I will call AT&T and express my extreme displeasure at the bs they gave us.

word is that GPS on this new update sucks balls

what we really need is the source code

I've been following the Epic froyo update on the forums and there have been many comments that the GPS has been significantly improved, and I don't believe there has been a single comment that the GPS has gotten worse. I wouldn't think that the Captivate update would be different. :)
