All Things Froyo

I talked to Samsung live chat support this morning. They say AT&T is supposed to send you a message of some sort telling you to update and how. The chat guy didn't even know if it was through Kies or a push over the air... So I don't really know what to expect.

But why does AT&T need to send a message before we can do anything? That is strange

Looks like I'll just Boot Camp into Windows 7 just so I can update. I hate dipping into "the dark side" section for any reason.

Just a thought, if it was OTA and people with 200 mb date plans download froyo, would they have charged for overage?

Supposedly they don't charge for OTAs... supposedly.

"We’ll post a link here [AT&T Facebook page] to the Samsung site with instructions to install the upgrade tomorrow."

Not likely to be OTA.

Dumb question, but how do I back up all of my apps, contacts, messages, etc.? I'm on stock 2.1, and I would like to not lose anything with this update.

That I'm not sure, but there's always going to Starbucks and downloading through wifi if you don't want to make that risk.

Last OTA update, you could not do via wifi. It had to be done over the cellular network. According to AT&T, OTA updates do not count against your data plan, but if you don't have an unlimited data plan, I would definitely check the usage after the update.

I had the Superuser app when I downloaded Super one-click, but I guess it wasn't super enough because TiBackup didn't recognize the root rights.
Did you hit the 'Have Problems?' button at the lower right? You need to install Busybox, hitting that button will install it for you, then you should be good to go.

Plus, users (including me) have had greater success when, under Preferences, App processing mode, they've selected the second radio button: AUTO, Indirect.

I am right behind you, but I will not just be leaving at&t, but android. I feel as tho the only way to go on android is a nexus phone with stock android.

With all of the custom functionality that can be done on an Android phone (more specifically Android ROMs), why the heck would you ditch Android? Open source operating systems are AWESOME - If you have the knowledge to mod, you CAN.

Look at it this way - NO mfgr will really be able to develop a totally uncrackable phone - Just look at the Playstation3 right now - You can't play COD:MW2 because hackers cracked it and have made the entire game unplayable online. Playstation has a serious problem on their hands now. I don't agree with the hackers' malicious intent, but it shows that nothing is 100% uncrackable.

To quote Family Guy, quoting Jurassic Park...... "Life... uhhh, uh uh uh uh..... Finds a way..."

Android is the answer, not the problem.

Well I wasn't around or using Android for last OTA update.
