I'd use a camera it's easier than rooting LOL.

Also, I have used the term birds before...

Sammy, "Birds" as term for satellites is frequently used by the military and intelligence services. It is not uncommon. Don't worry, I wouldn't change my screen name like some around here. ;)

I know, it is ridiculous. Should be able to take a screen shot without rooting. I can take screen shots using NESOID. Why not otherwise? Someone work on an app for this ;)

What happend to this thread, it was shut down like all day, and half the stuff is missing.

Something must have happened in the board maintenance they did. Perhaps they lost a backup? Anyway, the good news is that email notification seems to be working now. :D

I was having a panic attack all day, It was like someone took crack away from a crack addict.

just kidding

LOL - too funny Sammy

LOL. You know, you could create other posts or talk about other things on this board! ;)

there is nothing else to talk about. I might give the vibrant back and leave t-mobile. Long story I rather not get into, among other things I'm exerpiencing horrible coverage lately for some reason, and today someone on my account was in orange county, absolutely no coverage all day in the area of orange county she was in. Completely dead t-mobile signal.

I sat down and compared with verizon, believe it or not verizons plan comes out better, and verizon lets you call 10 people unlimited, on any network, any time of the day, and you can change your favorite 10 people list everyday, so today you can choose a new person, and tomorrow talk unlimited to them. Decisions decisions to make. Only downfall is, verison doesn't have the galaxy s fascinate yet. hmmm what to do.

WELL I guess this thread will be quiet till septemeber, in september we will know whats going on with the gps updates.

anyone else live in socal?

Sorry to hear about your loss coverage issue. In what part of town did you experience that?

I'm in LA.

And you're right, there really isn't much left to talk about until the fix arrives.

What other phone will you get Sammy? Are you staying with Tmo?

This fix has been up on XDA for sometime, I was hesitant about installing this, But seeing all the positive reviews on different forums I decided to give it a go. Well My GPS lock is now instant, I am getting a lock in my office where as before this it seemed impossible.

odd I have done the "fix" also and yes it runs..and says its fixed...but when I use the find my phone feature of "lookout" im 2 miles away from where i really am! so I don't think the fix works well at all. :(

There is no coverage at my cousins house in orange county. Also some spots in los angeles.
Chances are I will stay with t-mobile, however if Verizon had the galaxy s fascinate already, I would deffinately switch. I'm on a grandfathered plan, but even with the granfathered plan, verizons deal is much better. I don't know why people say verizon is so expensive, its not. At&t is expensive.
Also verizon lets you call 10 people, any network, landline, etc..and you can switch the numbers daily, and the new number is active within 24hrs. With t-mobiles discontinued my faves, you only get 5 people. You also can only change the numbers once a month, instead of everyday.
Also t-mobile, whom i've praised for excellent customer service many times, is starting to slowly decline in excellence. I dunno, I still like them, thats why its a hard decision. Also verizon only has the droidX, which I showed in another thread is torn to pieces by the samsung galaxy s phones. I wish they had the darn galaxy s phone by now!

BTW, anyone else jeleous of the sprint Epic 4g. They get flash, FFC, 4G, LED indicator lights, and a keyboard which i don't really care about. To me the epic has everything the vibrant should have it. vibrant should have been hspa+, flash cam, FFC, and led indicator lights. Obviously the phones support it, but t-mobile for some reason chose not to include these fetures. The epic 4g is the perfect galaxy s phone.

Sam, what did I overlook with Verizon? When I checked their Website and called their sales department, they told me $110 with text messaging or $90 without vs Tmo's $70 with or $65 without. I would lose 100 minutes per month with Verizon. This is like increasing the cost of my airtime at least $4 per month (10% of $40).

I too am on a grandfathered plan with Tmo, 1000 minutes, free nights and weekends, national coverage is $40 + 300 SMS msgs $5 + data $25 = $70/month.

I thought it would be too big a hit to switch for Verizon's "better" coverage when I only have negligible connectivity issues. I haven't had any dropped calls but sometimes (10%) my phone switches from 3G to Edge at home. However, I haven't been in Orange County since I bought the Vibrant. I don't know if Verizon would be any better at home.

Similarly, Sprint with their Epic 4G sounds seductive to me with a few exceptions:
  1. 1. Sprint service would be an additional $20/month with a loss of 100 minutes.
  2. 2. The phone would cost me $249 plus tax (~$35)
  3. 3. There is no 4G service in So Cal and no date projected for its rollout. This is the main feature that would attract me but with no 4G in my hometown this is negated.
  4. 4. My tests with LED flash reveal that the flash is of minimal utility due to limited range. So it isn't that big a deal for me. Even though it has limited range I don't understand why Tmo left the flash off of their version of the Galaxy S.
So free phone ($250 value to me), and a savings of between $20 and $40+ per month (I say "+" because the taxes would be at least 50% higher on a $110 plan) made staying with Tmo, for me, a no brainer unless you know something I don't. I figured I would go with Tmo's Vibrant for 2 years and perhaps by then 4G might be available here.

Well, 4G isnt everywhere yet and in fact, very few places i think. I honestly dont care about a FFC. I guess it would be cool to have but the FFC on the iPhone anyways is terrible compared to the back one. Doubt id use it much but you never know.
Flash would be nice and though it dont bother me at all, LED indicator would be ok but really with all the notifications you get on this, you shouldnt miss much anyways.
I dont have a job where i live off of emails and such that i need to have every message asap and i get SMS popups on my screen using Handcent.

And i do not want a keyboard.

As for Verizon, when i checked it out it was a lot higher than what im paying. I used to have Spring before i switched to T-Mobile and though it was 6.5 years ago, they sucked in my area.

verizon has stable data everywhere, t-mobile is switches between edge to 3G a lot

ah edit got deleted

I've never been anywhere where my Tmo didn't work so I guess their coverage suits me. But I hear what you're saying. It's just that $40 per month extra and lose 100 minutes + higher tax, equals over $50 per month to get extra coverage I may never need with Verizon.

Sammy, if your GPS doesn't locate you, and reboot the phone, what happens? My guess is these fixes are only "working" b/c of the reboot involved. My phone is back on original factory settings. As long as I reboot before using the GPS it works fine. That usually on means rebooting on the way to a new place and sometimes rebooting for the route home. It works though and only takes a minute so I am fine with it. I should note it wasn't requiring a reboot until this week and seems to be getting hung up for some reason now.

Interesting point, I was talking to a Tmobile rep about my billing plan and mentioned to him about complaints I'm hearing about the GPS on the Vibrant (I do this every chance I get) and he said a reboot would help this problem. He said he has a Vibrant and reboots whenever he has a GPS issue and that cures his problems.

I had a chance to test out my gps yesterday on a 75 miles trip to Denver. I tested the phone against my in car Pioneer Avic navigation. The phone for the most part did quite well. There were 3 times it said it lost communication though, and one time it said it lost data connection. My in car nav never lost the sat. signal. Having said that though, I think the phone is a better navigation aid than the Avic. The phone seems to pick out the better way to go far more often than my in dash, which would try to get me to go down small secondary roads all the time.

All in all Google Maps turn by turn works excellent for navigation imo, and I'm very much looking forward to this gps fix from Samsung.
