Well, if I go outside, take the Bodyglove case off, and hold the phone upright (versus "face up"), I can get levels after a few minutes in the GPS Test app in the 30s, but not above 40.

If I have the case on, hold it any other way, or am in the car, all bets are off whether it'll lock onto anything at all.
Exactly my situation as well.

Talk about kicking someone when they are down, typical Samsung move. Memo to Samsung, keep up the good work, your reputation can't go any lower.

I downloaded it and haven't seen any improvements but I have not messed with any of the gps settings. I guess the app fixes any of the fixes you have done to the gps. I am approaching the end of my 30 day trial and I was hoping the gps issue would be fixed by now. I am probably going to be returning it and waiting for something else to come to at&t. I was just wondering if anyone has seen results from the app

I returned mine a couple of months ago after the JH7 update came out, got tired of waiting for a fix and for Froyo. If you read the popular Android sites, no one is reporting improvements. Afterall, my understanding is, it restores the settings to the factory defaults. If I was in your shoes, save your money and wait for January 2011 when new phones are due to arrive.

Got this app from the at&t app store in the market. Download it and click on the app. I got an instant lock on my gps for directions (first time ever) and location. Let me know u guys results!!

I can tell the GPS issue is getting to you guys like it got to me when I owned the Captivate. Cheer up guys, giving the OP an honest recommendation.

The Captivate GPS is so inconsistent (for me) from day to day that it's tough giving you feedback now. I'll report back in a week or so.

that stupid ass app is a joke, I didnt even get past the description on the market all it does is reset the settings to the factory defaults, which supports all the claims that the phone caches an error after a couple of uses, and the fix to get the gps working from tech support was a GSM reset. this app cuts out the phone reset. Way to go samsung, another free joke for your customers.

My honest recommendation to the OP is to return his captivate if he's lucky enough to still be in his 30 day trial.

On the other hand I feel like the GPS gets better as the gps stays on. I don't know if this is new since the gps update. When I first turn my gps on when i get into the car, it is really bad. But i've tried turning it on before i need it and it seems to lock on quicker when i do need the directions. Anyone else experience this?

i did a hard reset a week ago, installed copilot, works great so far, hopefully in a month from now it will still work!,maybe this gps doesn't work well with googlemaps??

This has been a topic of great frustration for a lot of users.

No need to lose our cool - we're all in this thing called Android together - and I suggest that's how we stand.

Just want to chime in and express empathy - this is one of THE driving issue for Galaxy-class phone owners.

Good news is that they continue to work on things.

Let's work together and focus on that, not on each other or any bashing - you know. ;)

You can dump the gps cache with gps status

My GPS has always worked just fine, however I installed and ran the app earlier today anyways. I now get a faster lock and better accuracy. Didn't expect that at all.

I downloaded the GPS restore from the marketplace to my Captivate. I then tried the GPS at window from within my home and got a fast lock. This has not happened before. Let's hope it continues.

Downloaded, failed about a dozen times to finish the restore and get a lock. Rebooted phone, failed a couple more times. Then it got a signal and locked. Been perfect ever since on Maps. (Other GPS programs could easily lock a signal, but Maps was the huge failboat that never, ever knew where I was.)

It only took almost four months, but now I'm happy I have this phone.

My GPS worked from day one, however I installed the app and ran it, got even faster lock, and it knew my position in regards to North, South, etc, it never did before, it always had to recalculate. I'm stock, unrooted, 2.1 with JH7, this must do more then return to stock settings because I've turned both GPS and Wireless on before and it's never been this fast.

I was one of the lucky ones as my GPS worked fine out of the box, day 1: almost-instant lock when on charger, but 50-50 on battery and slow lock (I'd be willing to bet that most folks complaining about poor GPS were on-battery) -- I installed the GPSRestore anyway. Took three tries to get the final coordinates. Once was in my house, so I expected that. The second time I was in the car, but unplugged, didn't work. Finally plugged it into the charger the coordinates were set.

Then I used it off-charger to get to an event. Instant lock on GPS, even though it was unplugged, which NEVER happened before. And quicker still when I put it on charger (returning from the same event, just to test out the GPS fix).

I had never messed with my settings to begin with.

So Samsung did something, in addition to restoring GPS to factory settings, with GPSRestore. It's either that, or my factory settings were a little wrong when they left the factory. Because GPS is DEFINITELY working much better now, plugged or unplugged, and I was quite happy with my GPS performance before the fix.

downloaded it, used it, locked on me fairly quickly. but that was never really the problem for me, its once on on the move, the gps can seem to update quick enough, sometimes i can go a few miles and gps still shows me back where i started, and thats still very much the case for me....

It returns the GPS settings to stock, not the entire phone. I'm rooted, and everything's still the way it was.

For me this GPS restore app is a diversion from Samsung so Captivate users forget about Froyo.

I don't want an app to restore default settings (I can do that hard-reseting my Captivate), I want a REAL UPDATE Samsung!!!
