Anyone else seem to have the problem of stuff constantly running in the backround since this update? If i go into my app killer and kill everything i can go back in like a couple mins later to find the same random stuff running again. Like amazon, back up assit, clock and so on. My phone wasnt like that before. that stuff would only show if i restarted my phone then i just kill them and they are done. kinda frustrating.
hey ive got the v9 update file but the lg update software wont install it. says phone model is not eligible to update. so if you can get it to work let me know. its too large of a file to upload here. ill upload on multiupload.com. ill post the link when its done uploading. says it will take 20 minutes.Wanted to share my latest discussion with Verizon/LG on the OTA 8 update:
Called Verizon customer service and the rep got a LG tech on the phone. After talking with the LG tech and reading out everything in the settings section of my phone, the LG tech confimred that my phone had not been updated - however, Settings/Abount phone/System Updates said there were no updates available for my phone, so both the LG tech and Verizon support person said there was nothing I could do other than return the phone and have Verizon order me another one - what a HUGE bummer.
If I have to return my phone I'll be tempted to get a phone with a chance of getting Android 2.2 - but I really like the Ally, and before I did something drastic I was wondering if someone from LG watching this thread might find a copy of the OTA8 file (or even OTA9) and let me try installing it myself (like the guys at Ally v9 Firmware Update - LG Forum - LG Mobile Phone Forums - Carriers - Verizon did)? I've got both the Windows and the Linux Android developer's kits already installed and working (I cross complied and installed my first working Android "C" program last week), so I think I'm technically competent to handle the update process.
It will be this weekend before I can get out to a Verizon store, so I'll keep checking back here to see if someone finds me an update file I can install myself.
hey travel rob im definitely interested in helping out on a manual install. im great with computers. and i was able to access fastboot on my phone. reply back if you would like some help. Thanks! I'll download it and see if I can figure out how to get it installed this weekend. I'll let you know how it goes.
I successfully manually updated my phone to V8 (I guess V9 was already taken down). I then was able to re-root my phone as I had done before. It can be a bit of a process (there's an update loop encountered, but just disconnect from internet after making USB connection).
I have the corporate calendar....tried the Amazon MP3 store, but it still sucks...but most importantly still have the Barnacle Wi-Fi tether!
Good luck!

p.s. I really want to find a way to manually update to 2.2.....but can't seem to find anyone who has done it.

THANKS Death2All110 !!!
I tried all weekend to get the v9 update to work with the LG Mobile update program I downloaded from the LG corporate site, but was never able to get it to work. I don't know who Blackhorn is, but bless him for writing the KP500 flash program. Sadly for me I left my USB cable attached to my PC at home, and now I'm going to sit all day at the office watching the clock, waiting for the time when I can head home and try your update process
I posted my issue on the LG Ally Forum (LG Ally Ver 8 OTA Update in progress - LG Forum - LG Mobile Phone Forums - Carriers - Verizon) and am going to follow up there with a pointer back to your process as it seems that I'm not the only person with this specific upgrade issue.
Good work Death2All110.
That worked great. 1 thing I would add is that when using Win7 the.cab file did NOT need to be renamed.
Anybody have the V8 .cab?
