Root Alpharev S-OFF failed, phone wont boot. Please help!!!

If i tell it to skip getting the drivers it still comes up under other devices as Qualcomm

I cant see it as a disk no, literally the only way the pc can communicate is via fastboot commands..

I tried browsing to the HTC folder & the modified Andoid driver folder to install drivers from but this made no difference it just said can't find drivers...

hmm only thing i can advise is using a different pc or something

dont know what that is or what youve done to break it

I think it's the same problem I'm having, although it was caused differently. It looks like if you corrupt misc, then windows stops recognising the device as a phone and sees it as the qualcom device but can't find a driver.

On other sites, people have reported success with the "rageagainstthecage" exploit, but not me.

If there was an update for HBOOT .93 for the old rooting / non-unrevoked method, I think you could re-root the phone and flash new roms (that's an educated guess though)

Hi Eddy,

I don't know if the op has:

1, tried to create a goldcard using the pc
2. copying the zip from the ruu
3. applied the update.

I think that's what I'd try next if I was him. Apologies to the op, if I seem to be hijacking his thread but does the above look plausible.

the reason for the new methods of rooting is because HTC broke the old method. they protected certain areas, its not a case of updating the old method for hboot .93 its not hboot thats the issue its froyo and hboot together.

it took ages for them to find this way of rooting when HTC plugged the old one

I suspect the best chance of fixing the OP's phone will probably include the words "recorded" and "delivery"

Just to be sure i have started again.

The phone obviously can't connect so i put the ROM (PB99IMG.zip) from the standard RUU on to the memory card and boot to recovery:
RUU_Bravo_Froyo_Vodafone_UK_2.33.161.2_Radio_32.49.00.32U_5.11.05.27_release_157522_signed

It installs fine & then i skip through the options and get to home screen.. Rebooted phone

I then got a laptop that i have not used to connect the HTC to before & installed HTC sync, once installed rebooted laptop.

Once laptop ready plugged phone in... and it sees it as Qualcomm again..

When i try to install the update.zip it says it cant verify the signature and aborts the install (clockwork is no longer on the phone so cant turn it off either)

Is it looking like im going to have to send this to HTC then? Will they still repair it even if i have been messing with it?

Yes indeed. You need to be rooted to update.zip

Now you're back to stock, it may well be worth thinking about sending it to HTC.

The phone works perfectly except for the connectivity issues?

Just to note ive also tried to use the fake flash (update.zip) same verification error.

Yep, indeed.

On the Desire HD, with visionary+ permroot and rom manager you can do this but perm root doesnt work on normal desire using that app.

Rastaman also would add that a custom recovery is needed to allow update.zip.

indeed, custom or engineering in which you dont so signature isnt verified and it fails

fake flash is for old old desires

if you managed to get the vodaphone RUU on it then you have warranty. tell htc that you cannot connect it to usb and you are a devoloper and need the debug bridge which doesnt work despite changing computers and reinstalling drivers

they will probably change the motherboard

Just checking its the same thing. Never had to do it myself. tonyandroid posted it the other day in a similar thread :)

did unrevoked and then alpharev

phones hangs at step 3 for 30 mins...before i plug the battery

I can access fastboot, with USB. I can access bootloader too.

I have clockwork recovery,

However when I tried to do recovery it shows this

ClockworkMod Recovery v2.5.07
E:Can't find MISC:
E:Can't mount CACHE:recovery/command
E:Can't find MISC:
E:Can't mount CACHE:recovery/log
E:Can't find MISC:

what should i do?

Been a long time since I did this, but the instructions do say:

"If you get stuck in the 3rd step wait for about 30 minutes or more, just to be on the safe side and then pull out the battery and reboot the phone."

so I guess there's always that option.

These days I'd probably use Revolutionary to achieve S-Off.

i pulled battery out yes.....but phone just boots to bootloader....just trying to flash rom again, will it help ? hehe.
