Root alternate recovery!

Thanks I will flash tonight or tomorrow morning depending on when I get to sleep and what my battery looks like

Scotty, lemme know how this works for you. After Kernel Manager, Team Win left me not feelin their apps.

Flashed the 8/3 build. It was updated to allow flashing some scripts that were failing like viper mod, also a hepatic feedback toggle. I think the 8/2 build would have fixed my issue where the SD card wasn't mounting properly. I will be testing this out soon

Yeah really. I hope they make a RC1 or stable build so I don't have to hboot every day, I do like the active development they are doing:)

Just wondering if anyone could tell me what exactly I have to do to check this out, or if it's even worth flashing at this point..I'm still new to all of this, and was wondering if this is something that is being recommended right now...

If youre new, I would recommend waiting before trying this. Still in beta from all accounts. If you decide you want to anyways, make sure to take the time to read the ENTIRE thread on it so you know EXACTLY what youre getting yourself into.

i agree with mclabia... while its working fantastically, some are experiecing hanging at the splash screen when booting into it,wich is an inconvenience more than anything. it seems reliable so far,if something happens,it may cause some pretty serious fustrations to a new rooter that isnt sure what to do.

it would prolly be a lil better to wait until its been out for a bit.

that said,if you are curious and want to try it,its installed in hboot just like your radios. i would recomend keeping a renamed or hidden PG05IMG for clockwork on your phones sd card, just in case. ;)

fair enough! thanks guys...I will probably hold off being that I am new, and if i did run into a problem, I would probably be pestering you guys for my fix on here ;) keep me posted if either one of you guys can remember, that way I don't forget about it, if it turns out to be that great, I would love to eventually get a hold of it

I think all you need to do is flash clockworkMod recovery from within Rom Manager and you have the old one back.

I believe the splash screen hang has been fixed. He came out with a new update this morning that will allow you to scroll by simply holding down the volume keys. Major in my book.

Dammit! Just turend my PC off, lol. Hafta flash it when I get home this evening. The changes sound awesome.

Rom manager is fine to flash cwm if you can get to it. An extreme worse case scenario(bootloop and crashed recovery) you may have to flash a recover thru hboot or fastboot. I keep twrp and cwm on the SD just in case :)

Didn't think about that. But I do have confidence that this will work just fine. Some great devs behind it.

I can link the new version for you or dropbox it. Anyway here is the OP link:

edit: scotty, which cwr do you keep and do you have a link for it?

Bj, I will get you a link later this evening if no one posts it. Or search here for "hboot flashable recovery". I was using 4.0.0.5 but 3.1.0.2 is prolly safer/ better for an emergency backup.

Got 'em both now too. My backups are with 3.1.0.2 so I'd prolly start with that if needed. I presume you'd just need to boot from power down or adb reboot bootloader from the computer in order to access the file. The only issue I see here is that you would need to rename them and place them in the root anyway so I might as well just leave them on my computer, pop out my sdcard and put it on that way. If you're bootlooping and stuck without recovery I can't see any other way of doing it.

Yeah you will need to have a computer or another device that can edit SD files to get it renamed and moved as you wouldn't be able to on the phone.

With how well this recovery is working I do not see having to flash back to CWM :D

nothin wrong with that if youre sure youll be by the puter if you need it ;) i keep mine on the sd cause im away from home alot. wether im at work,my parents house,or even at frickers with friends someone will either have a card reader,or another smartphone i can pop my card into and change the name of one of my files :D my luck is such that if i have the files on my sd,ill be at home. if i font, ill be somewhere else, lol

yeahha i cant see there ever bein a reason to have to flash back to cwm either . downloading the newest now

this is my favorite part of the changelog:
The capacitive buttons should consistently work.

i hate it when theyd stop

the scrolling should be pretty sweet too

I have even thought about making a backup card that has a recovery flash and a working backup on it ready to go that I just stick in my wallet. Can you do it with a 8GB card? I have one lying around here somewhere. Be nice if you could have a radio, too, but I want it to be ready to go with no computer needed.
