Root Am I an idiot?

Probably, but ill ask my question anyway.. So i am coming from a droid eris(no problems rooting etc.) and just got my droid here a few days ago.. I just rooted it the other day but every rom i try to install gives me a whole-file signature failure.. i have tried messing with the .zip at the end and have tried a few different roms to make sure that wasnt my issue.. I tried a search for the signature error i get but didnt find anything.
I have rooted 2.1. If anyone can help me out or direct me on where to go that would be great. Thanks in advance
 
It sounds as though the zips have been opened. You can't open them since they are signed. If you open them they have to be resigned.
 
Yeah I've seen that before. They might've been opened. You have to definitely zip them again. Using SPR or CW, you don't have to extract anything like you would on Metamorph. Drag n Drop 2 SD card, boot into recovery and install.... If you edit files within the zip, you have to make sure all of the files are there, especially in "framwork" and those sub folders below it. I use WinRAR to edit the ROMs I download, adding or taking away apps and so on. Of course I don't repost them, but it's something cool to be able to do. I feel a bit closer to being a developer lol
 
hey guys thanks for the quick response.. i re-downloaded everything and it says E:failed to verify whole-file signature
E:signature verification failed]installation aborted

i have tried 3 more that i just downloaded and placed directly to the sd card. again i appreciate everyones help.

are you using SPRecovery or clockwork recovery??
 
If you're an idiot, I must be ******ed. I have no idea w/ the whole signed, unsigned thing is.

EDIT: wow, I can't say ******ed? I coulda swore I've seen worse language on here before. lol
 
I'm sorry to interrupt.. but I'm not sure I understood what you guys are sayin, but I think i have the same kind of problem? I can't recovery my recovery-backup.img file? Actually, I don't know how to use it...

Hmmm, yes, the text editor is very selectively PC.
The slang for "socially challenged"; "asshole" is ok, while the slang for "mentally challenged"; "******ed" is a real no-no. lol
...Meanwhile, midget, gimp and cripple are fine, too. Go figure.
