Android 2.1 Update

Seeing as we all knew an update of some sort was supposed to happen today, why haven't Google, Motorola, or Verizon released some kind of statement letting us know it's been pushed back. And last time we knew a month ahead of time it was coming. Even a few days before hand we knew it was going to have a staggered release. Now, we don't have anything? Someone's gotta speak up.

So it looks like this is it D-Day and we have no update. I am not talking about 2.1 because that was a rumor, but where is the official update that we were sure was going to happen. You guys know the one, where we had documented proof? Well I got no update at all and I am slightly depressed. There are a few things that could be fixed on this phone.

The January 22 maintenance update was not critical, as most of the original 2.0 bugs were worked out in the 2.0.1 release.

The absence of the January 22 maintenance update is actually a good thing - it suggests that 2.1 probably isn't too far away. With 2.1, the second 2.0 maintenance update is useless.

Anywhere to get this maintenance 2.0.1 update? I am rooted so my updates need to be manual.

Thanks everyone

Sorry, I'm new to this and the droid. I just thought I would ask since everyone wants an update. I figured someone would know what they're updating.

Close, but no cigar. You capitalized the "I" in "i'm" after the comma.
Sorry to say but you just showed your poor grammar skills. I is always capitalized even when writing I'm because that is just I + am. :p

Contacted Verizon Wireless via email about the DROID 2.1 update.

They basically said that they do not design nor create the software updates and that they do not release them when they're ready. They do not take any responsibility for it and they said that it is solely the responsibility of Google and to contact Google for further assistance. They said "Verizon Wireless simply provides the outstanding network that the DROID and other Android devices operates on".

He then continued to state that Verizon Wireless collaborates with Google to release the software updates as they are needed and that the update is currently not needed for the DROID to operate at its fullest potential. It sounded to me like Verizon just contradicted themselves. First they hold no part in the update but then they "collaborate with Google"...hmm...

With all due respect, i think thats an old news lol ;)
So where the FUX IS IT THEN? Not needed my ass, the phone gets sluggish when installing anything that runs in the background...seems kinda like Droid doesn't right now. BTW I am pretty sure Foebux is being facetious.

so whats going to happen when the official 2.1 update hits. will i be prompted to install it? will i have to unroot and reinstall the default 2.0.1 first? Will someone just post the official 2.1 update.zip ? and most importantly, will the old root stuff still work or will that whole likely be patched and the droid have to be re-rooted?

Don't worry about it. We won't be getting the update for awhile. And even if it did come, a rooted phone has OTA blocked.

All rooted phones do not have OTA blocked - you have to rename or remove otacerts.zip to block the OTA, and not all ROMs do that by default.

Even if it is offered to you, all you have to do is decline it...

Actually the update is coming out in sometime in January
HeHe that's funny.
Without turning this thread into another 2.1 thread. The January rumor was speculation, that the 1/22 ota was going to be 2.1

Do you know how I can check my rom to see if OTA is turned off?
