Android 2.3 & 4.0 WiFi Internet HD 1080P HDMI Google TV Box ARM Cortex A9 Firmware

Hi.
I'm new here, so first I'd like to say thanks for to stane1983 for all your work.
I have a few issues with my ATV-108 box.
Device checker says:
Model: MBX ICS VS-2
Brand: MBX
Name: c03ref
Device: c03ref
Board: c03ref
On settings I have:
Android Version: 4.0.3
Kernel version: 3.0
Compilation: ICS.MBX.20120225
My problem is that I can't install your firmware nor the ICS.MBX.20120422.
The error is:
-- Program mac...
Finding mac...
can't get efuse info
E:mac written already or something
Failed to write mac
efuse wirte MAC addr failed.
So I reset and reinstall ICS.MBX.20120225.
With that firmware 1080p and bluetooth are not working.

Am I doing something wrong?
Thanks!

Let me guess, you get scrambled screen after firmware upgrade, right? :)

Visson ATV-108 FAQ and info covers that question. It means that when migrating from older firmwares such as 20120225 or any other Gingerbread version firmware needs to be installed twice. First one - regular install via Upgrade app from firmware or using reset button and second install (same firmware) is installed via reset button.

Reason for that is different bootloader and different partitioning and that's why when you first install any new firmware (doing it only once) you get scrambled picture on TV output.

You will not have to install fw twice once you migrated from ICS.MBX.20120225, for next installs you can simply use Upgrade app from Android.

Edit: Many times mentioned, there is no kernel 3.x, I don't know why they are forcing that info in About page.... It's linux kernel 2.6.34.... If you don't believe, install Task Manager app and check under About Phone section :)

Edit 2: Program mac errors - just ignore it. It means that MAC address is already written to your network adapter and cannot be overwritten. This error is normal, you will get it on any fw you install.

Edit 3: Bluetooth is not built in Visson ATV-108. Their firmware never supported it (external BT dongles). My next fw release will have full BT support (for BT dongles) on system basis (Settings -> Bluetooth)

Sorry about all these edits, I'm little sleepy, forgot to answer all your questions when first posting :)

Regards

I forgot to mention it.
I am doing it twice, but I always get the "Recovery program something....." error with a kind of text menu, which ask me to reboot, and other options(although I can't select any), and with the "program mac" message I pasted.
I'll try to take a picture of the screen, I'm not sure I make myself clear.

Hi,

suggestion: Try with small sdcards, 1 or 2 Gb, non SDHC. That's also common problem, recovery or upgrade doesn't work well with big cards or SDHC. In some cases card doesn't have to be big in space, but it simply doesn't work as it should.

Also, it should be FAT32 formatted.

Hi,

first, you should connect all cables before powering the box on :)
Second, unsupported mode might be a problem that your TV cannot display resolution that box sends to tv (default should be 720p, but maybe you got used box and resolution was changed). You tried to let it go for cpl of minutes and see what happens?

Third, without any sdcard, use paperclip and press reset button and hold it until leds blink 3 times... That will do factory reset of the box. After that box should work normal.

Regards

Hi Stane,

thanks for the fast answer! I tried everything you mentioned and nothing helped - i connected first the hdmi cable and as soon as i plug in the power cable, the red led turnes on, the blue led turns n for a couple of seconds and afterwards the blue one starts blinking and the TV says Not supported. my TV supports everything up to 1080, included, so it's very strange to see that.

I tried resetting the tv ox with no success. i feel the paper clip is pushing the button inside the reset and nothing happens no matter how long i hold it. The blue led is just blinking and that's it.

The box does not appear used, or at least if it was, it was masked quite well - all the nylons were sticked to it etc, there were no finger prints and other marks when i opened it.

Blinking led means that kernel is working.... and that means your device is not dead, it's working, you just cannot get any picture on it.

Download from here stock firmware 2012-06-29 (latest one from Visson for f16ref device). Put all files to sdcard (when you extract it from archive), put your sdcard in box, press reset button, power on device, wait for left led to blink 3 times and release reset button. This will install latest official firmware. If this does not work, return it to your seller (warranty is not void because you tried to install official stock firmware with official upgrade instructions).

sdcard should not be SDHC and should be as small as you can get (1 to 4 Gb max) and should be formatted in FAT32.

Note: Root is not installed properly with this fw so it will not work, but at least you will know if you have some hardware issues with your device or it was just bad software...

It seems I can't post images or links.
I'll write the all the error screen:

Android system recovery <3e>

Android system recovery utility

reboot system now
apply update
wipe data/factory reset
wipe cache partition
apply update from cache
set efuse item

E:mac written already or something error

So far I tried 1gb and 2 gb microSD, FAT 16 and FAT32, installing twice (or three times), using update app or reset button, and these firmware files:

20120621_Android_ICS-ATV-108-c03ref.zip
20120612_Android_ICS-ATV-108-c03ref.zip
ICS.MBX.20120225
ICS.MBX.20120422

I can only apply ICS.MBX.20120225 using either 1gb or 2gb, and it worked using FAT16 or FAT32.
The rest of the firmware fail.
I don't know if it will make any sense to try the older firmware on V-Play download section, but I'll try.
Thanks

That's odd.... Visson officially doesn't support m1 boards anymore but I will ask their engineer what could be the problem... Can you check under settings how much of internal memory do you have (without sdcard)?

WOW!
good news!!
I've tried once again your firmware, and this time I changed file factory_update_param.aml.
It has:

--update_package=/sdcard/update.zip
--update_patch=/sdcard/new_patch.zip
--set_efuse_ethernet_mac=/sdcard/ethmac.efuse
and I changed for:

--update_package=/sdcard/update.zip
--update_patch=/sdcard/new_patch.zip
--wipe_data
--wipe_cache
--set_efuse_ethernet_mac=/sdcard/ethmac.efuse

I saw it on another post.
That did the trick, I can see the new logo when booting.
So far everything seems ok, except the Bluetooth option disappeared from Settings (I have the dongle plugged) and 1080p doesn't work, maybe because I'm using a HDMI->DVI adapter for my monitor (which is 1920x1080).
I'll keep playing and posting results.
Thanks a lot !!

Hi, nice to hear that :)
My Bluetooth fw still not out for download, will be ready soon. 1080 issue is know issue, will be solved with next firmware release.

stane1983

What is this file for "uImage_recovery"?
It's Android system recovery utility or maybe something else?

Thanks in advance for answer.

It's kernel recovery image (basically Android system recovery image), that file is loaded every time from sdcard when you upgrade firmware. If that file is not on the sdcard when you do upgrade, it won't work...

A couple of issues.
Mic doesn't work.
I don't have the Sound Recorder anymore.
I've connected my webcam, Genius 312p, and it seems to break Android, everything freezes and I need to powercycle the box.

Hi,

Mic issue and sound recorder will be in next fw. New fw will come with new kernel, so I believe webcam issue will be fixed.

You did it without plugging in BT dongle in the box? :) Doesn't work that way... Box doesn't have BT module built in, option is there to allow to use USB BT dongles with device.... :)

Plug in your usb BT dongle, wait 10-15 seconds for dongle to be initialized by kernel and then turn on BT in settings. That should work for most BT devices.

hi stane,
I followed this procedure but still my usb bluetooth is not responding (not even blinking) moreover I am not able to find any bluetooth options under settings.
My box is c03ref, A-TV 108.
Please anyone can explain in details how to get this thing to work or am I missing something...

Hi, stane1983

Can you do for me custom firmware with Wi-Fi, Remote Controller and DVB-T drivers for my c03ref device?

GoClever still don't send me factory firmware but some guy from my country check that probably in my device there are WiFi / Bluetooth / FM on chipset BCM4329 with WM-BN-BM-01 module.

Some more information about BCM4329:
[Q] FM Radio app, Broadcom BCM4329 chipset - xda-developers

Remote controller configuration file from my device:
remote.conf

Thanks in advance for help.

Hey Stane
Your new firmware that you plan to upload for c03ref will have fixed problem with streaming video reproduction witch I have still?
Thanks in advance

Hi,

about bcm4329 I will see what I can do about it... I can't promise anything, it's something I can't test.... I do have wifi driver in my kernel for bcm4329, but about bt and fm I'm not so sure about it...

We will see...

Hi, there are some improvements in Flash player released by Amlogic, we will see how it will work with new sources...

At this point I'm struggling with kernel, kernel boots, but android refuses to boot (kernel mounts all partitions on memory chip but cannot access any data on it).

What I really need is Wi-Fi, DVB-T drivers and this remote controller configuration in custom firmware.

How long it will take to do a custom firmware for my device?
Can I pay you for this? ;)

EDIT: I think I found similar firmware to my device:
http://www.geniatech.com/news/Geniatech-M1_2.3.asp

It's for ATV1100T this device has built in DVB-T and is on the same CPU like my device.

Btw. about this error "get.prop "ro.build.date.utc" I think we should change utc number and date to similar like in your firmware, maybe in this way it will install succesfully?

About date.utc.... it's check in updater-script which checks if you are trying to install newer or older fw... if it's older than already installed, it won't allow you to to install it.

To avoid it you have to open update.zip, edit (using Notepad++ or similar) META-INF/com/google/updater-script and remove line (just an example) which is usually on top of text file:

assert(!less_than_int(1343679147, getprop("ro.build.date.utc")));

After that you have to remove from update.zip/META-INF/cert.rsa, cert.sf and manifest.mf and resign your update package with signapk utility.

SignApk I'm using for such things you can download from here.
