Android 2.x on Galaxy

Rastaman, I partially agree with ryko and partially also with you. :)

Let me try to explain. I think ryko is right regarding 2.0/2.1 info (but general info, not binded to any specific ROM). This thread has became huge, and I think no one can really blame any newcomer for not reading it throughly.

On the other hand, there indeed is a howto on authors website (for this specific ROM) and I agree with you when you say that there is no need for another guide on this forum and that we probably have too many stickies already.

So, what I would suggest is to unsticky this thread, and write a new one with general pointers and pitfalls about current eclair development for galaxy. Also it might be a good idea to disable replies to that thread (to reduce the noise) but include a link to this one for discussion.

If you and other forum members agree with this, I will be happy to write it.

I like this thread, and if people cba (:D) reading, then they shouldn't even be thinking about installing this.

The ROM download page states to use Odin, we have a sticky tutorial thread on using Odin.

any news on drakaz/kam 2.0 port?? im curious although quiet could mean work is getting done

think we should start a thread for that port?? or too early?

so kam or drakaz ... any news??

Thanks

work is in progress. no rom yet, and no release date yet.

Well, I never said that we need another tutorial. Just a condensed summary on what's going on, with links to resources about details and discussion (like for example this thread). That summary should be updated as things progress (updates on mustymod, and updates on our open source project).

Also, I think it's not very effective to have a thread as large as this one stickied, because that only makes it grow even larger, get noisier and eventually it will completely lose track of the original topic.

This thread is only growing because people keep asking stuff about mustymod. As far as I know, none of the moderators have it installed, and not so many active users have it installed, therefore we cannot provide forum "support" for this mod, as we are not familiar with it (+ it's to a certain extent unwelcome here ;) , but that's different story). And consider that the dev does not provide much support either at Modaco Forums.

I would suggest active mustymod users like Andronix to create a separate thread on mustymod and maintain it and provide support to the people in need. So far, I can only see me, the moderators and a couple of other non-mustymod users at least directing people to existing tutorials.

I haven't yet installed mustymod as I was still undecided, but I think I will install it later today just so I can write up a thread on what's what. I feel somewhat responsible for the recent discussion regarding forum "noise" and such, as I was one of those that asked about mustymod. I would like to contribute to the forum in some way and hopefully writing up on this will help. I still have unanswered questions of my own, but I guess they will be answered once I take the plunge.
I can appreciate that people asking the same questions over and over can be annoying to longer standing members of the forum.

Does anyone has the GPS working?
I can see the GPS icon flashing, but it can't locate my position (even after 60 minutes) I tried several apps with no success.

It's best to stick with IK5 if you ask me, and wait for a fully functional 2.x rom.
As it is, mustymod isn't a rom thats anywhere near a suitable rom for daily use and by installing it you risk bricking your phone as well as the mentioned security issues.

Mustymod's 2.0 v1.03b vs 1.02a

Battery issue - drains fast - lasts for 20-24h top - but this is same as the previous version
A bit more lagy and sometimes much slower and overall feel is not as good and fluid as in previous version.
Sometimes much harder to unlock because of this, reacts with delay.
Phone call starts slower, ends slower, sometimes tricky if u want do do things fast.
Less memory available
Video works but mostly not watchable as it breaks apart
Mono headphones :(

Update: Big issue for me - network traffic doesn't stop, something is working in the background and consumes much more traffic than stock ROM no matter which app is active -> 3G off is the only solution.

Is there any app for checking what's happening with the traffic, app by app info?

GPS does work fine, didn't notice any accuracy problem
I do not have problem with screen going black after ending a call

Net counter doesn't count anything
MyBAckupPro forecloses during recovery unpredictably

Beside the GPS it looks like a step back to me.

I'm going back to IK5

mybackup didn't work for me on stock rom, i use dedicated apps.

to monitor data traffic, i use smart monitor lite,
it has notification based on usage...

I'm presuming this is the calendar sync bug? i.e. it never stops syncing the calendar. Turn off background data.

I presume this is also why your battery isn't lasting long.

Unfortunately not, I'm familiar with the sync problem, sync is off and traffic still comes and goes (much more than on stock ROM). No change for battery life no matter if there is background data on or off... Someone could say that battery mark shows in a more realistic way but I wouldn't agree on that as 20h comparing to 40h on stock ROM is a big difference.

I haven't noticed it on musty, it has to be some app wrongly configured. Tried rebooting? What task manager says about running apps?

Hi, I'm new on this post and it's incredible to know that mustymod is working so hard to get Galaxy updated.

I have read in another web (samsung-firmware.webs.com) that there is a new firmware update for Galaxy (but only chinese version) I7500CHNIL3. Is it better than IK5?

Greetings from Spain

So the last mustymod/sonique guy who turned up on irc was a fake lol

The real mustymod turned up and we have merged sources :) So we're now officially working together!

I repeat, mustymod has shared his source code!

Yeah i saw it afterwards lol. I been mega busy with work so only just got round to answering some stuff on the forums.

NEWS:

mustymod via twitter: i'm working on camera driver and it will take some time. maybe 2.1 based version (sync problem fixed) comes earlier..

Hmm maybe we should unsticky this and replace it with a section in the FAQ. What do you think? This thread has got a bit mixed up now.

You may update FAQ thread with 2.0 info, but we need general discussion thread about 2.x progress, this thread looks fine for that.
