Android 4.4.2 KitKat confirmed for Galaxy S3

So I downloaded the Sprint kitkat update zip that several sites have posted, put it on my external SD card, booted into recovery mode and found the update folder but then I have four choices

Oh, I unzipped. My bad! I'll try it again without unzipping since I'm sure I STILL won't be getting the OTA update. Speaking of which, do I need to use Kies to check for the update? I don't have Wi-Fi at home and I need it apparently to even use Kies.

I thought these forums were regulated. This started off being a discussion regarding the kit kat update. Then got hi jacked into talking about custom rom's and non carrier approved updates.

These forums are moderated, not "regulated :) and besides the thread was hardly hijacked, more "mianded" once it appeared that the vast majority of SGSIII's (The GT-I9300) aren't getting Kit Kat.

Still taking about KitKat, and how to install a version of it. I'm not a mod here (but else where) and if I was I wouldn't have a problem. It's how we hang here :)

Feel free to hit the report button mate. You're right the thread has slightly deviated but this site is very fairly moderated imo.
If the topics were more strictly moderated it would be a less comfortable place to post

The article didnt say and yes they did suck that's why I downgraded back from kitkat and use liquid smooth rom

Have you tried enabling ART yet? (settings, developer options, select run time)
It's the best thing in kitkat imo. Really speeds my devices up

It says its not supported by liquidsmooth and its working great now.

Yeah every rom says that because it's still experimental. It just means they won't try to fix any bugs caused by it.
You can always switch back to dalvik.
Don't mess around with it if you're unsure and Google "Android Run Time" for a proper explanation but very basically it speeds up apps.
It's probably gonna be default in the next Android version.
The only downsides are when you first activate it the phone reboots and takes a LONG time to boot that 1st time while it optimises your apps.
Also Xposed Framework doesn't work with it.
For some reason Samsung have left it out of their update

Do you know if Kit kat is supposed to help with battery life? My phone literally lost 2% in my pocket in like ten minutes with everything off (wifi, on vibrate, bluetooth off, no apps opened...)

Apparently it does improve battery life but I haven't noticed it.
I'd be trying other things if I was you. Looking for wakelocks is a good start.
A factory reset would probably help but save that as a last resort

I did a factory reset right after I got the firmware back (I think I did that is...)

I cleared the cache partition about a week ago too...
The odd thing is, I have the same apps I did before I did the firmware...

What do you mean by wakelocks? Any suggestions?

Androidlover I don't wanna take this off topic but check out the app Wakelock Detector and read (oh no, more reading lol) the app description, it has a pretty good explanation of what wakelocks are
Search for another thread on battery drain or start a new thread if you want mate

Oh no no more reading!!! Lol I usually just download an app then see if I like it or not then delete it if I don't like it :P

I'd rather not make another thread that would make people want to rip their hair out... lol.

I'll send the app to my phone :)

ON TOPIC:

Has the update arrived for anyone who ISN'T on sprint? I'm just wondering if it has gone to other carriers yet.

You did a factory reset after you took the update? I was about to factory reset my phone now. I am backing everything up as I am typing this. The factory rest did not improve your battery life? Also Wakelock Detector does not work with Kit Kat unless you rooted.
