Android 4.4.3? (ITS OUT!! 6/2)

That seems really late. A month from then we'll have I/O and likely a new OS version. Wonder whats been slowing the process down.

I'm always wary of rumors I read, android rumors have a long history of people giving "tips" to android news sites that are just flat out wrong.

IE- "project roadrunner" - a tipster completely made up and the rumor mill bought it hook line and sinker. You'll still occasionally see people refer to it today

Also- look how many "release dates" there were for the nexus 5 :p

Fool me once shame on you...
I'll believe it when it shows up on my phone. No sense in getting my hopes up until then.

As time has passed, I care less and less about getting 4.4.3 and, instead, want Android 4.5 or 5.0. Hopefully a new "major" upgrade will be announced next month.

Go back a couple years and look at the Galaxy Nexus. It managed to create a pre-release thread of close to 90,000 posts. (maybe more than 90,000) if you count all the post deletions :p

I use to be obsessed with getting the latest update as early as possible,Nokia N8,but then had more issues than before so now with all phone makes/models ,i am in no hurry to get updates.

I don't think there will be an new OS (4.5, 5.0) until this fall. It looks like Google is going to release a Nexus TV box next month with 4.4.3.

Its surely possible, but since 4.4.3 is nothing but bug fixes, I think that would be a pretty big letdown for an I/O announcement.

We won't know til we get there :D

It seems like Google is overdue for a 5.0 version of Android. We haven't had a new major version of Android for three years now, when Jellybean was released. There have been improvements, and we even got a new name for Android 4.4, but there haven't been many improvements that the user can see. The largest improvements have been in the code to better optimize Android.

The problem I see is that Android is losing its edge. Apple, while also somewhat weak in improvements, did create a completely new version of iOS in the last year. I've been playing with a Windows Phone with 8.1 on it; from what I can see, Windows Phone has largely caught up with Android and iOS with 8.1. Google needs to release a new, major version, of Android.

That sounds good, but what do you consider "major"? :)

You mentioned Ice Cream Sandwhich (4.0) to Jellybean (I assume 4.1), but jellybeans main improvements were also under the hood. I'd say gingerbread or HC to ICS was a large jump visually, as well as JB to KK. As an OS matures, its natural to see smaller and smaller changes. I don't want visual changes just for the sake of something changing. There were a lot of people angry about the new IOS changes, as well as the metro style to windows 8.

Thats not to say google isn't testing the waters with more visual improvements, we've had a bunch of leaks with that.

But in the end, whats in the number? Whether they call it 5.0 or 4.5 or 4.4.2.1 isn't as important as whats actually included. And history hasn't always been the best indicator of visual changes corresponding to version number. 4.3 to 4.4 had more in it visually than 4.2 to 4.3, but that isn't reflected in the version number.

I think most everything has been moved into separate apps so OS upgrades aren't as necessary. We've seen a new camera, and major improvements in hangouts, gmail, maps, chrome, google now, and drive all without a new release. While it's less exciting the iterative changes are very much welcomed when they do come out.

It leaves the question of what should really be in a 5.0 release. The new abstraction layer for Aria or some big visual changes would be the only reason I could see it at this point.

Exactly, Google took care of "android fragmentation" by making the android version less relevant.

OS changes becoming smaller is a result of that. We don't need to wait for an OTA for Google Now to gain a new function.

So what do you think? Lemondrop?

My favourite is Liquorice!

Perhaps another corporate deal and it will be Lifesavers?

Although you can never tell with Google, I doubt that 4.5 will have a new name (like 4.2 and 4.3). I think the next Android that has a new name will be 5.0.

It does seem like there should be a new version of Android announced at the I/O conference (at least, based on previous I/O conferences), particularly since it sounds as if there may be an HTC Nexus tablet announced.

If there is a new Android version announced in a month, it seems like it would be better just to scrap 4.4.3. Since it typically takes 3 weeks or longer for Google to distribute updates to all Nexus devices, it seems like 4.5 could be released before some of the GPE devices are getting the new 4.4.3 update. And if delayed much more (if you believe the rumors, it is already delayed almost 2 months), 4.5 might be available before 4.4.3 is ready.

My prediction is June 25th, Google i/o will release Android 4.5 Kitkat with bug fixes and small upgrades.

Been much too long. WiFi glitch they were suppose to fix in this upgrade still unresolved. Thus I've moved on to iPhone 5s and will never return. Not a choice I wanted. My son still sticking with his 5 though each day issue not resolved by Google probably pressing him, too.

Check out Google product support and other forums and you will see many Nexus 5s have a problem with WiFi. Simply do a Google search on Nexus 5 WiFi problems and you will have your choice on where to begin. Incidentally according to rumors that WiFi issue is among those set to be addressed in the update. But as noted I have gone on. Bye-bye Nexus 5. I won't be back!

The only wifi related bug in the 4.4.3 changelog regards an autoconnect fix.

I was hoping you could explain your issue
