How are you doing this factory reset
If it isn't working and no fix and no warranty check the site ************.com they may have a fix or a video to guide you . they have name brand stock parts and very friendly .

Since the update I've had several different apps force close from time to time and I did do a factory reset. I'm not too thrilled about the changes with Kitkat.

Portsider,

What is the app ops app?

My impression is the battery life shows a definite improvement.

Rgs. App ops is an app that lets you take each app and disable individual permissions that each app asks you for. Example say some flashlight app requests permission to access your contacts, as well as your sms. why the heck would a flashlight app need those permissions? (hypothetical here ). App ops allows you to disable these individual permissions. Google removed this app from the playstore after a very short time there. Supposedly, the Kitkat update was going to render the app useless anyway. I went to the internet to find an apk of the app to sideload onto my One ofter the 4.3 update. worked fine. once I downloaded 4.4.2, as mentioned, app ops was unaffected by the new firmware. Apparently, google wasnt too crazy about its customers having this abibility. Also, I certainly wouldnt tinker with any system apps at all. But as far as all of the downloaded apps Ive used it on, everything seems to be running fine. Thanks for the reply.

Do you need root for it to work?

No. No root needed.

Let me add, that this app (officially called 'App ops launcher', although its certainly not a launcher in the way we are accustomed to), is running perfectly on my One (att variant). Dont know whether everyone will have the same success, But I wouldnt see why not.

Anyone out there having an issue with the speakerphone automatically activating when using the phone? Doesn't happen all of the time, and definitely never happened before the Kit Kat update. Thanks for any feedback.

I've had this occur. Nothing I've tried had corrected it. HTC feels it is software related, so hopefully an update will fix this in the future.

This is one of the things I tried. Didn't work.

I'm getting this issue too. Dial the number, put the phone to my ear...get blasted :o

Previously with Jelly Bean, I reported to HTC a bug where the Car Mode faded to black and locked. Sad. If powered, car mode should keep the screen lit. It always did on my Thunderbolt. I had to install the Wakey app to keep the screen lit.

Now, with KitKat, HTC Sense has fully broken Car Mode, or at least invocation. Plugging into the HTC D160 no longer automatically invokes Car Mode. At all. I had to find an shortcut app to dig up the icon for it and put it on my home screen. At least with Jelly Bean I got Car Mode automatically and had enough time to invoke Wakey.

If you've never owned the Genuine HTC Car Dock D160 or similar, you may not realize what I'm talking about, but the charging cable has a special tweak to it that causes the phone to invoke the Car Mode launcher App. Well, it used to.

It is amazing to me, with all these Hands-Free laws passing in so many US states, how HTC first disrespects dock users with the very high-priced D160, then blows them off entirely by disabling the one feature that sets the D160 apart from all the generic phone holders.

New to HTC. Just updated software to 4 .06.651.9. The color is gone on my status bar across the top (black and white now). And my emoticons quit working. Any way to go back?

Hi,

I am having issues updating my phone to 4.2.2

Today I had an notification that KitKat is out and I can download it, once it's downloaded and started installing it, my phone went to recovery mode (clockworkmod, my phone is rooted)

I went to "install zip from sdcard" then to "download/OTA_M7_UL_K44_SENSE55_MR_HTC_EUROPE..x.x.xxx.x" and tried installing manually but it says it cannot find signature and aborts installation.

Do I have to unroot my phone and lock the bootloader or what? I never done this before.

Thanks

My phone informed me yesterday there was an update so I did it, and now if im in an app and press the home button the screen goes black. I have to double press it and close all open apps to get the home screen back.

I tried restarting my phone and now the black screen it there with no open apps and it said 'HTC Sense has stopped working'.

Anyone know how to fix this? Can you roll back updates?

The android version is 4.4.2, HTC Sense 5.5, and software version 4.19.401.11.

For about a week now my alarm will not go off whenever the phone is off. It's been working ever since I got the phone and now because of it I'm getting late for work!

I use the stock alarm app.

Any advice??

Did anything change in the last week? Assuming you are not rooted, the only thing that should change this is a system update.

As a work-around, just don't turn the phone off at night (I never do anyway). Put it in airplane mode if you are worried about battery/want to make sure you aren't woken by texts etc.

Yes, Hadron is spot on. This function disappeared with the update to 4.4.2, I queried it with HTC support and their suggestion was to enable airplane mode - battery consumption is negligible.

The original function used to boot up into airplane mode anyway at alarm time so the difference is also negligible.

:)

It was the same with my previous Desire HD. On the One it does not work, just tested it. I don’t use the alarm function after the problem with Desire HD.

I have observed and encountered glitches in HTC updates. There was an issue with Bluetooth with 4.3 but was resolved in 4.4 on the One.

Your option is to bring this issue on the alarm to HTC’s attention citing that something that worked before but does not work after an update. Hopefully they listen.

Cheers.

Thank you very much guys for your responses.

I just cant believe they got rid of that function. Just seems to me that Android seems to be getting worse and missing important functions throughout the updates.

Are there any alarms that can be used when the phone is off?

No, because if it's off it's not running Android, so no Android app can be running.

Actually I was surprised when they introduced that function, as most Androids never had it in the first place.

Apparently HTC One X+ still has this function, where the alarm will come on at the set time when the phone is turned off. (I will check this out.)

Cheers.

lock screen widgets/dock widgets were messed up (i run nova) but it was a quick fix.

How is that possible? There is nothing in the GUI of Android or Nova to customize the lock screen. Can I edit some text file somewhere to point to the new phone app link thingy or whatever?

edit: after switching to the HTC sense launcher once (can be done in the nova launcher settings) and back, it has fixed itself

I just have to say it's awful (with newest system update). I have to to press the forward next song button (right arrow) 3 times on average for it to respond, annoying. Earlier system didn't have this problem. They are always fixing and rearranging things that aren't broken.
