Android and MetroPCS "3g"

In other words, my fix was to try if it worked. I thought that if it worked for cricket, it was worth a try with the metro. But it turned out it didnt and there is no resolution. Fixes posted in forums dont alway work. Trial and error is how you learn. Know I know my fix doesn't work

So I wasn't feeding bs, I was giving suggestions, and sometimes suggestions dont work.

Trial and error is also how can get hurt or get fired or get yelled at. Seriously if you don't know something keep quiet.

The cricket fix works for cricket because they actually use another carriers network, that actually has 3G.

try going to setting , Wi Fi , Mobile Networks , System select , and click on Automatic insist Home Only , from time to time i pop into VZ or Sprint 3G network
I think LoL

Sometime before Summer starts or ends, cant tell with metroPCS anymore, metro will have an operational EVDO netword in Central, and North Florida. They also are planning on turing the evdo networks back on in Detroit and Dallas as a way to alleviate all the data problems and network problems in general.

Also Metro doesnt have a 3g roaming agreement with anybody, so there is no way to pick up a sprint or verizon 3G signal. sorry.

Metro is cdma not evdo, and they do have a roaming agreement with verizon.

What's Evdo?
Evolution-Data Optimized or Evolution-Data only

EVDO, also known as EV-DO, 1xEvDO and 1xEV-DO, is a standard for high speed wireless broadband. The acronym is short for "Evolution, Data Only" or "Evolution, Data Optimized". The official name, defined by the Telecommunication Industry Association, is "CDMA2000, High Rate Packet Data Air Interface". It is one of two major Third Generation, or 3G, wireless standards. The competing standard is known as W-CDMA.
3G is designed to provide voice and high-speed mobile data using the cellular approach already proven to work in mobile phone networks. The biggest obstacle to implementing high speed wireless networks is the lack of bandwidth, or range of usable frequencies. Just as only so many radio stations can be squeezed onto the FM dial, only so much data can be transmitted across the available bandwidth. EVDO is an advanced CDMA technology developed by Qualcomm to deal with this limitation.

also Metro do use VZ tower & thier signal

Here is a little clarification.

Metro DOES NOT use VZ towers and signals. They have their own, which is why we have 1xRTT (2.5G, technically it is 3G but the first version of it which 1xEV-DO replaced) and not 1xEV-DO (3G). However they do have a roaming agreement with Verizon or Sprint (I'm not sure which). Which is where the expanded area (free text (SMS) messges) comes in and we can make phone calls for a fee in those areas, but no data.

Crickett (I'm not %100 about this) has a contract with Verizon and uses their towers and signal.

@ Anduiril
I know they have thier own but
if u go to setting , Wifi , Mobile Network ,System select
and click Auto , and ur Roaming , it will kick in VZ network

I just didn't want someone to think that Metro didn't have their own towers. And some people think they are just borrowing signals like Boost, Virgin and a couple other carriers do.

I still don't get why texting is free while roaming though.

I see the settings but I'm a little concerned about incurring roaming charges. There is a separate check in the same area to allow the Ascend to use the roaming network's data services as well, which is what you'd want if you were doing this for the 3g. But the Ascend even gave me a warning about roaming charges.

Looking at metro's page regarding traveltalk (roaming) it is $0.19 per minute and only if you pay to even have that privilidge. I can't imagine how many they'd charge for data if just talking with cost $0.19 per minute, but it's not even listed as a possible service.

Whenever I get down about the data service I just remind myself I'm saving $20 a month at least and the savings will pay for this phone in just 5 months. Then even if I switch to a contract somewhere I'll still have this fun android as an eReader and mp3/mp4 player if nothing else.

I don't know if it would work or not you would have to be roaming and I don't think there is a way to force it to roam. I haven't been roaming since I got my phone to find out. And I don't have much money in my MyMetro Account (or whatever they call it).

There is no data service at all when roaming. Checking data roaming is useless.

they need to make a 3g network im paying all thing money and their scewing me over i want 3G!!!!!!!!!

We (I'm on Metro too) are on 3g, it's just first generation that's all. 1xRtt is 3g. One of the mods Earlymon I think posted in a thread explaining it. I'M too tired to look it up on my phone right now.

Ok let me clear a few things up:
1. *228 is a universal CDMA number used for programming, prl updates, etc
2. MetroPCS only has 3G in DFW, TX. Getting 3G anywhere else on MetroPCS with any phone is currently impossible.
