Android and MetroPCS "3g"

Ok let me clear a few things up:
1. *228 is a universal CDMA number used for programming, prl updates, etc
2. MetroPCS only has 3G in DFW, TX. Getting 3G anywhere else on MetroPCS with any phone is currently impossible.

You are correct about the *228 but you are wrong about the 3g. AS I STATED ABOVE. Now they mave have 1xEV-DO in Dallas, which is the one that shows up on your phone as 3G but 1xRTT is 3g. It's just not as fast as 1xEVDO.

**Early or Xyro (whichever one of you posted about it before) could you please post the links again explaining it. I tried the search but it didn't come up. Thanks.

I'm from Dallas, and I only see 1X with only 1 or 2 signal bars most time. If there is true 3G here, I would love to see it.

metro is slowly rolling out using thier 4g towers to slightly boost thier speeds on their 1x network. So far i know that 3g works in parts of florida, Georgia, Texas,Newyork, and some other states. I have an optimus m and i get 3g fine.heres a snap shot.I have clocked speeds at about 170kb/s pretty good. youtube is still slow but not terrible so. here are some screen shots. your prl version should be 3020.

Can't really see the picture, but where di you hear from that georgia got 3g?

I can't find the OPs that said it but for those of you that claim that Metro isn't using Sprint/Verizon's towers...

Up yours.

They are clearly using the damn towers, about 10-20% of the tower's connections or whatever...can't remember what that clerk said at the Corporate office...due to them failing to pull out reliable 2G and RTTX or something. Wish I recorded the chat. (As for the 4G, that's been said they would be using their own personal thingys...but that's again on the TBC)

Its cause people have complained so much around the areas, and not just here in ol DFW, that they've been forced to retire some of their hardware and look into 'borrowing' or tenanting some of the big companies' own junk.

Only reason that its not the same feel, or even appears to be the same connection, is because we're getting the minimum signal that they can 'spare' so their premium customers get the best service possible. A coworker I know says that while he did hear that from a Sprint Rep from the last call he made about his Transform going on the fritz...that even then, its still not enough to satisfy the Metro peeps because they have to continuously shrink and change the amount of bandwidth/crap they have to send out.

I feel as if the Smartphone population is getting either overcrowded, or not getting enough data feeds to fill us all.

that is not nice and would be considerd as bashing some members an its against the rule.

I dont care who's tower they are using. They could be using Tracfone towers for all I care. I just want 3G.

They insist on false information, and are not 'being nice' with saying its the same. Tired of being fed something that not only expired/imitation but is also expected to eat it.

However, I am wrong as well. Wasn't supposed to be 'mean', but whatever. I'm also wrong on the 3G, while towers ARE being shared, some places, like smaller cities, don't have it, period.

Really sucks for the 50$ a month. If this doesn't get resolved, I'm gonna cancel the subscription or whatever you call it. If I want tiny data and mini powerhouse, I'd pay <40
, not 50.

I think this is related to the Roaming List, since I had the same exact phone have 3G, yet mine isn't...but when I checked the Signal information, I noticed the PRL was off by a few digits. Updating via *228 didn't seem to change it, but it did on others.

I'm wondering if that's a fault for something...

sorry to bother but no one have being able to get 3g in dallas area?
Yeah, I was able to about 2-3 months ago. Had to wait it out after many of the so called 'fixes' posted on the forums didn't work. All my friend's phones and even mine finally got 3G, happened overnight, without us ever noticing or having to edit or change any advanced feature in the phone.

If you still do not have 3G, mind if I ask where exactly you are? Its spotty in a lot of areas as nuttmeg mentioned but some places you can get a huge hike in data. Make sure you have a PRL of 3020 or above, as 3019 will not yield 3G. Avoid calling *228 because it will instead of upgrading, it'll downgrade it. You'll have to use QPST or CDMA Workshop.
yes 3g has been in Dallas area over a month now, but it's spotty tho.
Some places, its very crappy, it goes completely and doesn't even revert to 1X, just simple bars.
