Android Live Scores

I've been slightly sidetracked with our facebook apps, and haven't been able to tackle any Android stuff. But, that looks like it's wrapping up, and I can get back to the widget for now.

As to the first version of the widget - we're starting simple so we can get it out before the holidays. Basically, it's 1x2 with score/time. You can have as many of these as you want, with each one dedicated to one of your favorite teams.

Future versions will have the ability to scroll, but that's not going to make the initial release.

sounds good to me :). these 1x2 widgets, are we going to be able to customize the refresh intervals?? or is it just going to be based on the app itself? and also, is it going to show the next game's date & start time? just curious...

The refresh interval will be controlled by the app. It works much like the alert setup.

And currently, I have it showing the previous game's info, as well as the next game's start date/time. But I need to work on the layout to make it obvious as to what's going on. The main issue is at what point do I show the next game info and no longer the previous (I'm thinking 4hours before the start of the next game).

Anyone have any input on that?

actually, i do. i think the widget(s) should switch to the next game's info at some point late in the next morning, a set time of morning. probably around 11 a.m. or noon!! just so that if we didn't get the scores from the night before, we dont have to count on waking up early just to get the scores, plus you did say that it will show the previous game's score (not sure if i misinterpreted what you said about that).

but if our teams don't play again for a few days, for example in the NFL, it won't refresh until the following gameday? if my team gets blown out the game before, i dont want to have to see the score constantly all week. LOL :)

but, if we must do a certain time before the next game, i would do about 5 or 6 hours before game time. hope that helps

i dont know if anyone has figured this out yet, BUT......

there's a way to customize your alert sound for the app. If you change your phone's default notification sound, live scores will use that sound that you change it too.

...and if you have handcent installed as your messaging application, it lets you pick a music jingle. i have the espn score notification downloaded on my phone and handcent lets me change my phone's default notification sound to that. when my team scores or theres an update pushed by livescores, "duhnuh nuh nuh, duhnuh nuh nuh". i was bored tonight and just thought id try it. and success.

i'm having a little trouble with the alerts.

1) my vibrate setting is not working. it never vibrates. Yes, i do have that setting checked.

2)my teams alerts work fine, i have flyers alerts for "score change, and end of game" they work fine. but... i was trying to keep track of the flame vs lightning of the NHL tonight (none are my favs, just wanted the single game alerts), i had the "score change, end of period, and end of game" alert boxes checked. i only received the end of period alerts and the end of game alert. never once did i get the scoring changes.

just thought you guys would like to know.

only the default sound right now, a later update is going to bring the ability to change it

i meant that i already have changed the sound. i know the app doesn't offer it...yet. but ive got a different sound as we speak. lol

Got referred to this app and really love it so far right off the bat. I think this is going to do great.

I love offering up suggestions and am glad this app is supported by an open Dev :)

The very first thing that came to mind was when I was scrolling the times for the upcoming NFL games this weekend. They are all listed by name in black text, line by line. Perhaps put the team logo as well instead of just generic black text? Definitely a cosmetic and not urgent thing, but I love me some pretty pictures ;)

EDIT: Actually, I did seem to find what I think is a defect after some playing around just now. On my phone, if I hit the back button while on the main screen (the screen where it just shows a large logo of "S" and underneath "Yahoo! Sportacular") well, if I hit my home key on this screen and then go back into the App, it doesn't load. It just hangs at this screen.

I have to hit the back button to get out of this screen and back to my phones main screen and then go back into the app and it loads fine.

Seems like you can't hit the home button on that main screen.

I know this has been mentioned, but I want to re-iterate, the ONLY reason I don't use a sports widget is because I like watching multiple games, and there isn't a widget that I can find that will let me display more than one matchup.

I would really love to see multiple widget sizes that would display multiple games. I don't know what Android's native support for scrollable widgets is (I use Launcher Pro), but if it could be big AND scrollable, I'd love it.

In an ideal world? I want a 4 wide by 3 high widget that will put my "favorite" teams at the top of the list, but I can use free-scrolling (i.e. not tapping scroll buttons) to look at any game played that day, and tap any of the games to open the Live Scores interface for that game.

I've been dying for a decent sports app. Right now I'm using ESPN, but I keep looking at Live Scores. I just wish the UI was better. These are the issues that I have:

The UI is very very bad. It's nowhere near as pleasing looking as the iPhone app. The blue highlight on the sides of the column look amateur. Make the score columns look like the standings column. The menu icons look very low res and look very bad on high res devices.

The ESPN ScoreCenter UI isn't much better, but that's the reason why I use it over Live Scores. The UI just needs a major overhaul. I use Sportacular on my iPad and love the UI. But the Android app is severely lacking behind the iPhone and iPad.

I can't wait to see the new update. I've been using Live Scores for alerts and Score Mobile for information because of the friendly UI. The way Live Scores has been progressing, I hope I can use it exclusively soon.

Sorry I've been away for awhile - holidays n such...

Just a heads up to everyone - so far we're looking good for our Dec 16th release!
It has some bug fixes and restyling. Biggest feature is of course the widget which will be included in the next release.

We hear a lot about our UI and we're working on it but its slow going, we don't have the same resources as the iPhone team. In any case, if it came down to adding a widget or restyling... We assumed most would vote for a widget, so that's what we did. ;)

However, I did spend some time on the NFL Game Details - take a look at it when it comes out, its a bit of foreshadowing regarding how the rest of the app will look.

Looking forward to the update, especially since it corresponds with the Nexus S release, which I will be getting on the 16th.

Tick, tock, tick tock :)

Looking forward to trying out the widget.....tonight?

Also, any chance you fixed the bug where, when you have it set to give you scoring at each quarter, that you don't an update at end of quarter and then a few minutes later the beginning of the next quarter?

Didn't fix that bug. Maybe I'll try and take a stab at it before this release goes out.

Those will be some famous last words.
