Another MR2 question

I installed the leaked MR2 update and was wondering if Verizon sends out an update, will I still be able to install it without screwing up the phone? Also, how would I uninstall it and go back to stock? My phone is non-rooted.

You would flash the MR1 RUU, to go back a step. Not in performance necessarily but back to the official OTA.

Depending on how the new update differs from MR2 you may not even get an OTA notification.

The official update will be leaked prior to being pushed, so I'm not sure why you would go back, but you certainly could.

But I can install future OTA's with the MR2 update installed?

The short answer is NO. You will not be able to install OTA's without having the current software version that is official from Verizon... the OTA check the software version before installing...

But you will be able to flash the RUU of the OTA once it's available - wiping your phone.

I went throught that BS when I had my Eris, so that's why I've avoided installing leaks. However, if you want to root... you don't have to worry about OTA's

Correct me if I'm wrong... but unless you're rooted, you cannot flash the MR1 RUU over the MR2 RUU

Why wouldn't you be able to?

Download the full MR1 RUU and place it on the root of the SD via a card reader and rename it. All you're doing is flashing an image of a phone essentially.

The higher software version would stop the flash when downgrading... I'm not going to try it, but I do remember when I installed a leaked RUU on my Eris, i could NOT install the original software the way you're saying you can. You can only do this if you're rooted.

I recently had to do it with my tbolt, although I was rooted, and haven't had an android phone that wasn't rooted within a week or so of owning it so ill take your word for it.

Just seems the phone wouldn't know it's being downgraded, but then again theory and practice are 2 different things.

Ok, so where can I dl the MR1 ruu to reflash?

Well, see, you are rooted you can go back and forth if you're rooted. The OP is not rooted and running stock with the leaked MR2...

i have the leaked mr2 are you telling me that ive been sitting here for 2 hrs frustrated and cursing the whole time checking for update every 5 min and it says no update because i wont get it due to having leaked mr2? WTF!!!! HOW DO I GO BACK SO I CAN GET THE UPDATE?! I KNEW I SHOULDNT OF LISTENED TO MY FRIEND WHEN HE SAID TO INSTALL THE UPDATE!

That's the problem with rooting to begin with. The phone starts owning you, not you owning the phone.

So there is no way to go back to the MR1, i'll have to wait to flash my phone with any updates and not be able to use the OTA's

I think you're confused about what exactly rooting does..

I had the same update as unrooted individuals available the same day. Although instead of flashing the entire RUU and adding all the crap, I just flashed the updated radio. Benefit to being rooted..

Just because you don't get a notification to update, doesn't mean you can't have it. The update for unrooted phones was posted before VZW made it available to the masses.

If you can give me ONE single benefit to not having root access, besides the warranty, which according to VZW they don't care about anyway, please tell me about all the great things I'm missing out on.

Here's the link to the OTA update.
