Root Another return to stock thread

I was just searching (unsuccessfully) for the instructions to return my EVO 4g to stock.

I am giving the phone to a family member who is 'resistant' to modifications, whether perceived or real.

My phone info:
-Revolutionary-
SUPERSONIC EVT3 SHIP S-OFF
HBOOT-6.16.1002
MICRP-041f
RADIO-2.15.00.0808
Mar 8 2011, 17:02:15

Thanks!

No problem!
go to here:

And scroll down to the unroot section...very good instructions there to get you back to stock :)

Unfortunately the

PC36IMG_SuperSonic_GB_Sprint_WWE_4.54.651.1_Radio_ 2.15.00.0808_NV_2.15_release_220182_signed.zip

file doesn't seem to exist. I keep getting a 404 error downloading it.

Thanks for the updated links. That worked. I didn't feel right about leaving it S-off since I'm giving the phone to a family member and I won't be able to deal with issues if they decide to try to get it serviced by Sprint in the future.

Thanks again for all the help!

I'm actually going to have to unroot my wife's phone so I can send it in for warranty, do I need to delete the AMON recovery as well? If so what is the best way to do so and when during the unroot process should this be done? Is the link in this guide the best one to follow to unroot for the current info below for this phone?

Here is the current info for the phone:

Android version: 2.3.5
Sense version: 3.5
ROM: EnergyROM July 4th 2012
PRI version: 2.15_003
PRL version: 60683

there really is no need to unroot it. just flash a ruu to give it the stock rom and stock recovery. you will still have s-off, but i do not think they care.

but if you want to do it anyways then you will need to unroot via unrevoked.

go here for instructions:
http://androidforums.com/evo-4g-all-things-root/194918-rooting-dummies.html

basically it is two steps.
1. flash the s-on tool
2. run the PC36IMG that equals to what your radio(baseband) is.
and here it is: PC36IMG_SuperSonic_GB_Sprint_WWE_4.54.651.1_Radio_2.15.00.0808_NV_2.15_release_220182_signed

Has anyone had a device repaired or serviced with still having "S-OFF"? Are there any instructions for using this method...I can't seem to find anything in my searches.

Will using this option automatically delete AMON RA and restore the stock recovery? Won't flashing S-ON tool first prevent me from flashing the stock ROM in step 2?

i know it sounds weird. but the s-on tool needs to be flashed before. if you do the PC36IMG file first, you will loose the custom recovery and thus you can't flash the tool. so yes the s-on tool needs to go first.

In my opinion, it's not worth the hassle of un-rooting it.
Whether they give you a refurb, or they do what they need to do, to fix it, as in, unroot it themselves, why unroot it yourself?
It's your choice and I don't mean to sound condescending, I am not, but if it is hardware or software related, they will do what they need to do. :)
You said you were sending it in....to Sprint? or are you taking it to a Sprint store?
What issues are you having? Just curious is all :D
We'll help you with whatever you would like to do :) If it gives you peace of mind, that's fine..we'll be here.

We purchased our phones from Target and added the 2-year warranty, so I don't think it's actually going to Sprint. I need to find out exactly what company it is that I need to contact.

The device itself has stopped vibrating and the power button has no click to it anymore as in you have to really press it down hard to get it to work.

well yeah a third party then might be different. it is super easy to unroot with unrevoked though.

Does anyone know if I could swap my phone with my wife's phone so she doesn't have to be without a phone for a few days during the repair process? What I mean by this is can I change her phone# to my phone and vise versa? Basically I would just keep it this way and then I would take the replacement or repaired phone. I believe this would be a process I would have to complete with Sprint first before I start the warranty process with the 3rd party company.

I don't see why not if you are on the same carrier.:)

Thank you! Do you think being rooted would effect me swapping my and my wifes phone through Sprint?

I will still want to keep the phone she will be using rooted...so I like the idea of using this ROM, but for the phone I am going to be sending in do you think going with the RUU method would be a better option?

If I wanted to could I use the RUU method on both but leave one rooted and the not?
