Root Another return to stock thread

I finally got my phone #'s swapped between mine and my wife's phone and now I am going to be sending it in for warranty work to a 3rd party (Target Mobile's extended service protection company...not sure the exact name of the company) company...so I just don't want to run the risk of them not doing the repair or replacing the phone since it is rooted.

I am hoping they send me a replacement phone since the plan is $151.00 and above they repair the phone, and $150.00 and below they replace the phone. All that is broke is the power button and the vibrate has stopped working. I am hoping they send me something a bit newer since the EVO is EOL.

got it. never had to deal with target before for phones. but if you have any questions about the unrooting procees, then please let us know.

Thank you! Just after you posted that link I found this PC36IMG_SuperSonic_S_Sprint_WWE_3.70.651.1 , is this an RUU and is this what the EVO was shipped with? What does RUU stand for anyway...I cant find a definition anywhere?

ruu stands for rom upgrade utility. it is how the phone actually gets updates. and no that ruu will not work as your radios are newer. the one i linked earlier is the one you want. ruu's only work if the ruu is newer or the same as what is on the phone. all ruu's are the official stock roms with stock recovery.

there is newer ruu's out, but you do not want those. if they return your phone, it will be harder to root it again.

Gotcha, so basically after I flash the S-ON tool I will connect my phone to my computer to do this process unlike flashing a ROM from AMON.

yep flash the s-on tool
and move the ruu to the sd card. make sure you name it right and place it on the root of the sd card( no folders). then go into the bootloader and install the ruu.

Oh okay, so I don't run the program from my PC? I thought this was a program that you ran from the PC to restore the phone. I clicked it after I downloaded and it opened up into a update utility. This file will run on the phone even though it is not a ZIP file?

Correct...it is a zip file that just needs to be renamed and installed via bootloader just like installing a recovery.

Edit: just don't unzip it or anything, just rename to PC36IMG

Okay, so rename from: RUU_SuperSonic_GB_Sprint_WWE_4.54.651.1_Radio_2.15.00.0808_NV_2.15_release_220182_signed.exe to PC36IMG.zip ?

I just renamed it and tried to open the ZIP on my PC to see what was inside and I got a message that it was corrupt and could not open...is this something only the phone itself can open?

you can extract it and then take a look inside. its compiled and compressed when it is zipped so you can't read it that way. it needs to be zipped though in order for it to work on the phone.

Ahh...okay!

I compressed the RUU.exe to a ZIP file and renamed it to PC36IMG.zip, I opened the ZIP and basically it is just the RUU.exe application inside.

I just found this video (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qkRN1wd6SEM) and it seems like it would be a lot easier to restore my phone with this method. I am still wanting to get S-ON though to prevent any issues with the warranty company. If I go with this method would I still use the S-ON tool before just like mentioned in the posts earlier in this thread?

no that is only a ruu and nothing else. to be fully unrooted you need to be flash the s-on tool and then flash the ruu. plus that is an earlier ruu and will not work for your phone.

Ahh, okay...So then can I use that RUU file you gave me in an earlier post in the same way the guy in the video did? What I mean is can I just run it from my PC like he did instead of moving the file to my SD card and use the phone itself to restore it?

here is the actual ruu that you can run on the pc:RUU_SuperSonic_GB_Sprint_WWE_4.54.651.1_Radio_2.15.00.0808_NV_2.15_release_220182_signed

so flash the s-on tool and then reboot. make sure that usb debugging is turned on and run the exe on your computer.

When I tried to flash the S-ON tool I received and error message saying:

E: unsupported radio version
E: Update failed. Check /sdcard/soff.log.
E: Error in /sdcard/unrevoked-forever-son.zip (Status 42)

I tried re-flashing again and now I am stuck on the message:

Verifying system type...

did you check the soff.log that was generated, and saved to your sd-card?
it would probably help to post the info of that if you can access your sd card

This is all the log file said:

unrEVOked forever S-ON patch v1.3

Verifying system type...

I'm pretty sure it was the unrevoked method...it's been over a year and a half now I can't really remember.

There was a similar problem in the Incredible theread, and it suggested that your radio being incompatible if its a GB version.

Edit: I guess the son.log got overwritten when you tried flashing it again
