Context are how one expresses his or her own opinion. Opinions are like buttholes, everyone has one. Don't loose sight of the fact that more people have been killed over the history of mankind in the name of religion than all of the plagues and pestilence combined. What's the point of using a tired old saying that has vulgarity in it if you don't even complete the saying so that it makes sense? Eliminating the punch line, you could have left out the vulgarity and said, "Opinions are like fingers; everybody has them," and you could have made your point without being disgusting.

Speaking of making a point, yours was flawed because true adherents to Christianity, those who believe and follow the Bible, meaning those who adhere strictly to the text and understand the differences between the old and new covenants, are forbidden to engage in violence. Muslims who strictly follow the Qu'ran blow up buildings and behead American soldiers and European journalists. Peaceful Muslims are liberal hybrid Muslims who are not faithful to fundamental Islam and a literal reading of their holy book.

One thing that will doom the world is if people continue to believe that truth is subjective.

If you don't like controversy, debates and opinions, then why do keep offering yours without contributing to the discussion at hand? Simply go to Thread Tools and unsubscribe from this thread, and your misery shall subside.

You keep talking about growing up. What is your definition of maturity? One who fails to make a decision about the purpose of life and never takes one side or the other? One who waffles through life thinking that truth is relative rather than absolute? One who takes the illogical position that all beliefs are valid and each to his own? One who preaches tolerance and yet is intolerant of those who have strong beliefs?

I'm not necessarily saying that the above describes you, because I'm left to guess. So enlighten us. What is your angle? What do YOU believe?

Okay... fine... here is what i believe / my angle (you may critiize):

1)I believe there is a god... but no body can prove that there is a god or not...so why argue about it?

2)A belief is something that is not yet proven... "it is a thought".... if you say you "know" god exist.... then you better have a damn good reason....

3) hell is irational.... why make something imperfect then punish it for being imperfect??? That is real crazy.

4)Church is a waste of time.... the bible has many faults....but many good points too...it is not the word of god.....it was written by humans of which are not perfect at all....history and today prove this.

5)I don't like debates that have no concrete evidence....it's simple dude...

6) I am miserable because there are some really crazy peopple out there and they will never be adults....

Please i mean no harm dude....

I am just putting my 2 cents in that's all....

And it's great to see you believe that there is a god it's a good start ;)

But you're scaring me with all these assurances of meaning no harm, lol. That's usually what the gang member says in the dark alley right before he cuts your throat ;)

How do you define true adherents to any religious text? Is there a set standard, or..?

Yes sir, there is. The standard is the text itself, taken contextually, and literally where the common rules of hermeneutics dictate, and taken allegorically where and only where the text is obviously being allegorical.

For instance, if someone claims to be a Christian, and the text plainly says that there is only one mediator between God and man, the man Jesus Christ, yet that person believes that Jesus' human mother is now also co-mediatrix, then that person, by Biblical definition, is not a Christian. That person is a false believer because the passage in question is clearly salvific in nature, is doctrinally definitive, and describes the very nature and role of God.

The text of any given holy book is the standard by which its professing adherents are judged.


Edit: Of course, this applies mostly to passages that are sotereological or doctrinally definitive in nature. Obviously it doesn't apply to passages that are non-essential to the faith, i.e.; eschatological timelines, certain in-house differences like Calvinism vs. Arminianism, baptism by full immersion or partial immersion, clean and unclean foods, cessation of the gifts of the Spirit, etc.

Because all these violent Muslims you all speak of, have not been here through out all of time.

Christians had their crazies too.. Have we forgeten the crusades?

Your saying the Pope was not a Christian...oh...boy...

Its kinda hard to compare medieval aged Christians with Today's Christians...but...that statement right there is laughable, any proof to back up the claim that most "Christians" in the medieval age were not Christian?

Did you not see the word "professing" in my post? Yes. I am emphatically saying that the Pope was not a Christian. Catholicism is an aberration of Christianity. It is a false religion. I thought I also made this clear in my post where I mentioned Mary. Catholics, Mormans, Jehovah's Witness, et al, are cults.

Catholicism venerates the Pope as the Vicar of Christ, making him Christ's replacement on Earth. It also gives the priests the power to forgive sins. It also allows for praying to dead saints. It also calls Mary the co-mediatrix. This is all utter blasphemy, and is decidedly unbiblical. This is by no means an exhaustive list of blasphemies that the Catholic church perpetuates.

There never has been nor will there ever be a Christian pope.

Interesting video but deeply flawed. It is working on the assumption that just because population rates are what they are today, that they will continue to be so in the future, or that the conditions which currently cause them will not change.

IIRC not so long ago, those same projections called for a population explosion in africa. guess what, they failed to take into consideration the effects of war and aids. in fact sub saharan africa is experiencing a population reduction right now.

I don't recall seeing any mention of water in that video. IIRC most of the muslim world is in areas with shaky fresh water resources. Resources that are being maxed out or not replenished due to agriculture, industry and population growth, coupled with changing weather patterns and the expansion of deserts. who is to say that that won't have a major effect in the region, either in terms of warfare or simple natural limits on population growth? Also much of the region is dependent on few natural resources, and most fo the countries with the greatest development rates and population growths have experienced tremendous artificial growth financed by commodities that are steadily decreasing in availability. what's to happen to almost 30 million Saudi's living essentially in a desert, when income from oil sales is no longer able to provide for all their infrastructure and social welfare needs? With few exceptions the economies of most muslims countries are not too terribly diversified. Unless there is a mass migration of people out of the muslim world and into some other area, I just don't see how anything in that alarmist video can hold true.

So you don't have a problem with the Pope being a mediator between us and God? The Bible certainly does :

1 Timothy 2:5

"For there is one God, and there is one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus,"

And yes, I meant "mediatrix." That is the feminine form of "mediator," a word coined in the Catholic Catechisms. It is blasphemy to pray to or worship Mary. She is not God and the Bible makes it clear that she couldn't hear you even if you did pray to her.

Please research the word "Vicar" in official Catholic dogmas. One of the Pope's official titles is Vicar of Christ. That literally means replacement.

To answer your question, I am non-denominational. To answer the question behind your question, there is no one denomination that is the only true church. True Christianity is comprised of hundreds of various denominations and churches scattered throughout the world. It's not the specific organization that you belong to that makes you a Christian. Christianity is a group of people, not a collection of buildings.

Simply stated, a Christian must believe the Bible in its entirety, and must not believe things that are contrary to the Bible. That is orthodox Christianity.

Please excuse my brevity, but I am driving, and I'm getting into traffic here.

Lol Stinky, you're a tad crazy.

Anyway, it's way too much to cover here. Entire books have been written on the subject. As a matter of fact, I could probably write a rather lengthy dissertation on the subject myself, but I'll spare everyone here the pain ;)

I'm driving now, but I'll try and find some time tomorrow and PM you about it.
